  1. It has three bands, LOW , HIGH and one variable frequency that you can choose what frequency you want. The low and the High bands are predetermined by Line 6 and you can't change the frequency or Q, you can only cut or boost. but just for that one band you can change the frequency, the Q and boost or cut.
  2. Each effect block can have any of the EQ effects. So that depends on what you choose in that effect block. If you choose "Studio EQ" it has two frequency choices, if you choose the "shift EQ" you have 4 Frequencies. If you need more EQ frequencies, simply use more than one effect block.
  3. http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/eq An excellent guide by a forum member. The parametric EQ in the HD series is a basic EQ intended for those who don't know how to use common Studio EQs. You have High, low and one parametric band . It's obviously intended to be simple and that can be very good. Simply move the High and Lows as needed, then if you need to modify other frequencies, simply use the parametric and search for the frequency by moving the dial. the key to remember is that the Q parameter works not like you might expect, if you lower the Q by moving it to the left, this will effect the sound significantly more than when you move it to the right. The Values of the Q decides how much adjacent frequencies next the center frequency are affected. Low Q value will affect more frequencies but at maximum Q, the frequency band is the narrowest and is intended for surgical correction of a small band of frequencies (around the center frequency). Since these frequencies aren't disclosed by line 6, it's somewhat difficult, if you're used to working with specific frequencies, to find the correct frequencies. But no one mentioned that there's a possibilities that Line 6 didn't disclose the frequencies because these frequencies could have been discovered by line 6, and giving them away is not an option to protect their discovery. :).
  4. Not if you have the HD300!! Go figure!
  5. If that's the case, it solidifies what I've always said, the HD series was clearly designed for the performing guitarists in mind rather than the recording guitarist; factor in EQ that doesn't show frequencies, DT50 interaction, L2 functionality and the case is ironclad.
  6. I find it hard to believe that USB 2 has limitation verses the USB in the POD X3. At the driver level they can create more outputs at least...
  7. Single coils in general are hollow in the mid frequencies so you need to boost your mids. Using POD HD insert the Parametric EQ , turn the Q all the way down to the left (to get the widest curve possible). Boost the gain to 2 to 4DB. Now to find the frequency that will give the best desired result, simply start from the middle (default position) and move the frequwncy slider leftward, I'm thinking between 20% to 50% you will find what you're looking for. If you want to get closer by modifying your guitar the cheapest way and least intrusive possible: buy a PUSH PULL for Volume. go to Dimarzio website and download the wiring for series wiring using PUSH pull. When you pull, you will add two sounds in position 1 and 5 I that will combine the neck and middle in series also bridge and middle in series. Since the middle is reversed wound hopefully, you will get no hum and also a major boost very similar to humbuckers.
  8. It was just a joke. There are amazing players on this forum. To get back to topic or close to it, Lins 6 have released updates usually on Thursday, so today might be the day.
  9. Now why would you say that!? What's your excuse? Don't strain yourself wondering. I will have to limit my response to 2 lines to insure that you can finish reading it. Didn't do good in school did you? have you heard of humor? Sorry I had to go over 2 lines.
  10. I'm glad you caught on to the fact that I was Joking in the spirit of proving that you were right when you said that guitar player are A-holes. I tried to demonstrate that and you got it, but unfortunately others aren't as bright as you. The experts are the best thing about these boards and in general they all have the emotional intelligence that enables them not be fan boys and not only that, they have a sense of humor. :)
  11. What guitar players  . I don't see any guitar players around here  . It's more like a bunch of computer geeks waiting for updates to their gadgets and a few Cyborg typists "Experts" who can answer most questions relating to the operation of those gadgets.
  12. Maybe it will be 3.0 with Major updates, it's been long enough since the last one, about 9 months!!
  13. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear. What I'm trying to say is that the competition is really fierce. I'm comparing with HD PRO at $699. In my opinion the HD500 is a much better contender than the HD PRO. But I guess I'm pointing the obvious that LINE 6 already knows. the only advantage that Line 6 has with the HD PRO is the dual path, but for Studio work dual path is rarely needed and is really redundant. I'm not dumping on the HD series. I think you can get amazing tones from them, but for studio work putting money and features aside the modeling in the Eleven is simply more accurate. What I'm really trying to say in a nut shell: the Modeling and EQ must be improved if line 6 wants to remain viable in the modeling for studio guitarists. Currently the only thing that can happen that would be in line 6's advantage if AVID discontinues ELEVEN Rack.
  14. How could it be invalid. It's not second hand. You have the option of buying the bundle and selling Pro tools for about 400 on Ebay. Even if you don't want to bother, the ones that are selling without pro tools come with registration cards so you can register as the original owner. Further more if you keep pro tools which is a pretty good DAW and compare with POD HD pro at a similar price, line 6 doesn't give you anything at all except for the Editor while pro tools is a full fledged DAW that can remember recall your presets in any project that you work on in addition to streamlined Reamping option for every guitar track you record. I already have cubase and re-amping is also supported so I bought one for 350 brand new and i registered it as the original owner with the full warranty.
  15. I'm getting paid by Avid to sell Eleven Racks on Line 6 forum, that's my day Job. It pays very well. You obviously don't get it because you have the fan boy mentality who's offended because they have an emotional attachment to their POD HD. I never said the Eleven Rack is the best modeler, I just said it has better models and quality effects than the HD Series. Obviously you're reading emotionally as you missed the part where I mentioned that Kemper and AXE FX have the best quality Amp models but they cost alot more. I also mentioned Amplitube and Revalver and how they're catching up with Kemper and AXE meanwhile line 6 hasn't been updating the Modeling. When you allow your reading comprehension to suffer by reading emotionally, it's very clear that you need to think twice before you start attacking me, someone who's actually pointing deficiencies that if improved and worked on would be good for everyone including line 6 as well as you yourself. I'm not like you simply singing praises and blindly defending and trying to silence legitimate concerns for thousands of Line 6 customers who are interested in better modeling and recording features. At any rate to answer your question directly, it seems that I would have more time than you to enjoy both My ELeven and POD HD500 since you have double the number of posts I have. Some how you found time and plenty of it ;) . You seem to have done a good job going through them and selectively focused on where I mentioned the Eleven. I mean holly carp  , you just went through everyone of my posts to find where I talked about Eleven Rack. Not only that but you might have embellished what I wrote and reworded it to suite your agenda. I'm not sure if you copied and pasted from my previous posts and I won't take the time to find out. I wonder if line 6 hired you as a forum POLICE :) . You obviously have more time than me to defend the HD rather than enjoy playing it. Not really, if I join there, it would probably be to point out deficiencies and hoping AVid would resolve them. Fan boy mentality doesn't suite me very well. To each their own. I don't buy musical gear as an investment. I don't care how much my HD500 fetches today or tomorrow, it's a good controller with some decent effects. It's great for live performing. For modeling though Eleven Rack using the same models and speakers head to head, anyone with ears will hear the difference and feel it if they're playing and all in favor of ELEVEN RAck. If I have some time the next couple of weeks I will do a head to head with the same identical amps modeled to show that. Maybe that would push someone at line 6 to work on improving the modeling, which again is very constructive for everyone. I also happen to agree with you at the price issue with Eleven, because if you buy Eleven without protools from Ebay or anywhere else at 350-400, It probably costs more to make them, these are quality parts ...
  16. Because Avid's marketing is more concerned with selling Pro tools so they can sell more plugins later. Eleven with expansion pack installed has more amps than HD because there are many amps where two channels are modeled but counted as one amp. They can learn a lot from Line 6 marketing, if line 6 buys Eleven Rack, they will sell much more because they're more of a guitar company. If you play the Bogner Xtacy Blue included in the Eleven Rack, it's almost indistinguishable from the Real thing by those who own the real amp...
  17. I am so tired of playing the expectation game with line 6 because they never disclose or give the slightest hint of what's to come. My expectations are minimal because the shortfalls are so many when it comes to the HD series and I'll list a few items just to show that I highly doubt that they will address major concerns for the Recording Guitarist that they seem to have forgotten about with the HD release. The HD series is more for the performing guitarist and here's why: 1-The recording abilities relating to routing signal are a step backward when compared with POD XT , POD Farm. All the options that were available close to TEN years ago with POD Farm/XT are no longer available. Re-amping is not addressed at all. If you compare that with current competition: Eleven Rack has Re-amping at the software Level similar to POD Farm. 2-EQ is not for the recording guitarists and is tailored for those who has no idea how a traditional studio EQ work. No point in beating a dead horse. Suffice to say that the competition such as the Eleven Rack has a full featured studio EQ. 3-Finally the amp modeling is an improvement but honestly still no where near those of the competition. Eleven Rack at 300 without Pro tools , half the price of the HD pro, has models that are way more realistic than the current HD models. Not only the sound, but the way all the amps behave when pushed, are much more realistic and better sounding using the Eleven Rack. If line 6 wants to cater to the studio guitarist they must address these three items. Currently, If they update the number of models to 250 amps, I won't use my HD500 for amp models, because the Eleven that I just bought sounds thicker, bigger, more like a real amp that it dwarfs every single model on the HD. The hd is a decent effect processor though but the quality, not the quantity, of the reverbs, modulation are very inferior to the quality of Eleven Rack and by a long shot. You just need to hear the Reverb on the Eleven Rack to realize the huge difference in quality and musicality. My list might be short, but I doubt that line 6 will address that for the next ten years specially when it comes to modelings. They will milk this modeling for another ten years just like, they're doing with POD 2.0 and pod farm. That's fine and I'm not criticizing, i'm just pointing out that they completely abandoned the Studio Guitarist looking for more realistic modeling and they figured at less than a grand, it's not expected anyway, since people pay twice that for a kemper or AXE FX. That's the wrong attitude, because the next update to Amplitube (that currently has some amps that are better than similar ones in the HD series) and Revalver will leave line 6 further behind in satisfying the recording guitarists' needs...
  18. Using compressors in guitar applications by guitar players is using the compressor as an effect more so than a dynamic processor as when used over a complete mix where generally it's last in the signal chain. When you use the compressor as an effect for guitar, you can get more sustain and also make the sound thicker. Using the POD HD compressors, place the Tube Compressor or the compressor of your choice before the amp and notice how fuller the sound becomes. When placed before the amp it doesn't affect the dynamic that much, and the sound remains more natural. I prefer the tube compressor in the POD HD because it has the least artifacts and sound very transparent where it's very hard to tell that you're using a compressor. At any rate 2-4 decibels reduction is usually enough to tighten and fatten the sound, in my personal experience, any more than that seem to only add noise and suck some life out of the tone.
  19. I read that he plugged in the Mic input and that's why the distortion sounded unusual.
  20. Compressors are used to reduce the difference in decibels between the loud and soft passages of music (dynamic). How they apply to guitar is different than general music applications. In general application the compressor is usually placed as the last in the signal chain. How compressor control dynamic is simply by lowering the volume of the loudest part by a specified amount of Decibels. Without getting into the parameters of the usual compressor, I think it's easier to understand compression as a useful tool that can be very destructive if not used carefully. Let's say when you play the guitar softly and then play it harder the guitar sound becomes louder by 12db. You can use a compressor to lower the louder part so it's only louder by 8 to 10 db. Now the difference is smaller so the sound becomes more even and the softer parts can be perceived as louder in relation to the loud part and in general at the same peak (maximum level) the whole sound can become to be perceived louder. Now you reduced your dynamic range by 2-4db. More reduction of dynamic range reduction can make the sound lifeless. when you're using a compressor, the most important meter to watch is the gain reduction meter. If the gain reduction meter shows more than 6 decibels your risking damaging the sound. there's another parameter that allows you to make up for the gain that was reduced to bring the sound to the same peak level as before or whatever level you find suitable. All the other parameters in general control how fast or slow the reduction happen. Luckily line 6 compressor have simplified most of the parameters and combined them in one or two. Since there are no meters that allow you to see how much gain reduction happened you have to use your ears and make sure you didn't destroy the dynamic range specially if you place the compressor after the amp. Try placing before and after the amp or before or after the distortion and use your ears and fingers to get to a playable sound. If you monitor the sound using a mixer or any other tool other than the pod you can easily tell if the sound is completely squashed with no dynamic. Just watch the level meter of the mixer and if you see it stuck in a very small range or if the meters aren't moving at all, that's an indication that you over compressed and you just removed all the dynamic from your sound. This might be useful as a special effect or specific sound but in general it's a lifeless sound...
  21. Guitar with Mahagony body and P90s. The amp from the HD series that will get you closest is the park with a distortion or possibly the line6 drive.
  22. You got that Right, I'm definitely considering getting a second Eleven Rack for $300. But at three hundred dollars the HD500 is a huge value considering it can be a controller and effect processor also, but for modeling...Meh
  23. There might be some of that but but there are also those who were early adopters who left several feedback and requests only to be completely ignored by the company. I know a few on this forum who couldn't deal with the EQ situation and abandoned ship. For me personally I try not to get emotionally attached to my gear, if I hear something that sounds better, I will choose it. In general most of us are like that, if line 6 didn't make good sounding gear, no one will be here. But when for the same price you can get better sounding gear, are you going to feel that it's "treason" to buy an Eleven Rack? ;) :o . Even if line 6 was more responsive with feedback and bonded with their customers, sound is ultimately what guitar players are looking for. I hope line 6 will improve the modeling because the HD PRO is inferior to Eleven. This will be serious competition considering that Eleven is half the price!
  24. That was the case before Eleven Rack came down in price to around 350 at ebay. In terms of practicality it depends on what you do. For live the POD is the winner but for recording and tone the Eleven is in a completely higer league in modeling and even though it doesn't have as many effects as the POD, but the effects are much better quality specially the reverbs, EQ, Rotary and the rest of modulations. you can also easily do Re-amping from the software and once you playing the models in Eleven Rack it's very hard to go back to play the models of the POD. Ever since I got the Eleven, My HD500 sits as a controller for the ELeven Rack and that's all it does. . I thought line 6 was going to update or refine the modelings, but I'll give it till the end of the summer and if EQ and amp models aren't refined, I'll get rid of my HD500. I'm not looking for more amps, just better quality. Still I have much more amps in the Eleven because in many of the amps two channels are modeled and counted as one amp not the way line 6 count amps.
  25. I still own the HD500, but I just bought an Eleven Rack. The Eleven Rack Modeling is definitely the next level up above the HD. So now I use the HD500 as a controller and effects but the Amp models in the Eleven Rack are much more natural and realistic . I paid 350 for My Eleven and I'm very convinced that the quality is much better than the HD PRO at twice the price. I have no emotional attachment to Gear and I don't think anyone should.
