Great thanks for the info guys! It reassures my thoughts after reading tons of threads on here. I love my pod but I am always DI'd into the amp and wanted to have an easy means to jam with my buddies outside of church. That will be mostly rock, classic to some heavy. Not as worried about the acoustic capabilities there. But if I can find an acceptable tone with that for a little extra capability that will be great. Not to mention the fact that it looks like a real amp and won't get any weird looks. Lol So helix didn't work with the DT25? That is a bummer but really a major concern as I don't see that being an option for me anytime soon. Maybe they will make it work at some point. Another thing I like about the DT25 from my reading is I can use it for my reverb which would offload some DSP from my HD500. I had toyed with upgrading to the 500x but I don't think they added too much DSP to it. I guess being the same price it is justified. But being able to offload the reverb would probably give me a little extra DSP on the rare occasions I mess with a dual amp tone.

I have a JTV59 and a Pod HD500 which I love tremendously. I play in my church's worship team and I always get compliments on my tone and my sounds. I love being able to play an acoustic or a Paul or Tele at a flip of a switch or push of a button. Especially, with the ability to change tunings on the fly depending on the person singing without having to worry about playing it in a different position. Anyway, I was recently asked to play out at another place and was going to use an amp there. I ended up plugging directly into their PA as well. However, I am wanting to setup a "jam" room at my new house where I will have an amp of some sort and eventually a PA. I have been eyeing the DT25 since they announced it and love the idea of getting the best of both worlds with real tube saturation and the possibilities with that. However, now they have the L2T and other StageSource stuff out there which is equally as interesting. So now I am torn between the two. Eventually, would probably try to get both, but can't afford that for the time being. I play mostly electric tones, but occasionally I do mess with the acoustic settings on my JTV. Does the DT25 do a decent enough job with the Acoustic sounds? Also, if I get a regular PA I could always have the times I go acoustic go directly to the PA and then for electric go to the DT25? I like having the idea of a real tube amp at my feet that can be married to the POD. I know there are other threads on this and have been reading tons of them, but wanted to ask directly with my situation. Also, our church has started bringing in some Amps as well and micing them, if I had the DT25 there may be times where I would do that as well instead of plugging directly in if the situation merited that. If it would make my tones sounds more... "organic" as opposed to DI into the board. I am looking at a few used DT25s that are around me, haven't found any used L2Ts as of yet since they are relatively new. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

LOL! Theft Really? You realize a ton of companies have Price Guarantees that do exactly what you say is theft? http://gc.guitarcenter.com/gc-advantage/glp.cfm

Yes my buddy does that with his HD500 into his Marshall half. He loves it. I have done it before as well and it works just fine. I usually just go direct into the PA now lately, but it would work just fine the way you are mentioning. And if you want to get more complicated you can use the four cable method and put drives, wahs, distortion etc in front and the time based stuff in the loop.

Perfect timing! I was just logging in to check if the new amp packs were worth it and were they really good. Sounds like it was destiny. Speaking of which, Are the new models earth shattering and really good? Think I will get the Loaded Bundle as it makes sense.

Yup, I use the Studio EQ now which works great, but as you say it eats up a slot. One of the reasons I was debating getting a 500x, but think that has passed as from what I have seen it doesn't give as much DSP headroom as I was hoping.

I need to get a second expression pedal. I use the volume pedal all the time and don't care for having to switch between Pedal 1 and 2. So that would be a good option once I get a second pedal. I didn't notice much of a boost using the Variax, o well.

The Workbench HD has a place in it for each preset to set a Preset Volume dB and each pickup has a place to set a Level dB. So on Switch position 4 and 2 I have the Preset volume set at 6.0 dB and the Pickups set at 6.0dB. I have only been using position 1, 3, and 5 anyway so figure it may be a good option for me.

Since the HD500 doesn't have a simply clean boost on it without taking an extra slot with an EQ and tweaking that or doing things with the effects loop, I have started setting the 2 and 4 positions on my 5 way (on my JTV59) to be a 6db boost for the model I am using. Does anyone else use this and find success with it? Seems to work pretty well. Just have to hit the Alt Tun Button to get a quick boost when I need a lil more umph. Though just started messing with it through headphones. The real test will be Sunday during service.

Technical Question

That is the first logical explanation on why it has taken so long to fix. I hope... you are not right... ;) -
Technical Question
sandman69 replied to smrybacki's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It will be resolved in the next release. Cruisinon gave you the release schedule of said update. There are several heated discussions in regard to this issue/bug/feature/regression/progression/failure/limitation/lack of feature/well-documented/not-documented "thing" It works swimmingly well with the dilapidated Workbench 1.x.... but no worky with WB HD 2.x. Their programmers apparently forgot how to code that between releases... -
Can't Get Workbench To Work On Mac
sandman69 replied to u182155's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That is good to know. I didn't realize that. I wonder if I did that on one 2.0 firmware update. It failed in the middle. I figured it was just a typical issue as I have read others have had problems. But maybe it was that. It updated after I tried again, but not sure if volume was at 0 or if I changed it. -
What Do You Use Your Jtv For?
sandman69 replied to the29band's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I just recently purchased my JTV59 about three weeks ago so we are still on our honeymoon. I had been intrigued by them since they came out. I didn't care for the older look, but when they released the JTVs I was impressed. I was in a band, but we recently went on a permanent vacation, became too much on all of us traveling with families and real jobs. So instead of leaving my cab and head and huge pedalboard laying around I decided it was time to try out a JTV. I sold my head and cab and a couple pedals to fund it. Much easier with the wifee, though she is really supportive. Anyway, like Jdempler I play at my church and the ladies typically change the key of some of the song. So my main reason at first was the alternate tunings and the virtual capo. So nice to be able to play a song like I always play it now and just change the tuning. I have played it the past two sundays and a worship night and I love the guitar. Plus with the union with my HD500, and hopefully will get a DT on down the road, is very sweet. And it is a beautiful guitar IMHO. The Tobacco Sunburst is so nice. I am a Les Paul guy; just love their necks and how they feel. I got a Strat a couple years back and while I liked it, I always went back to the LP. The JTV59 plays very much like they do. But now I can get different sounds and still have the same playability. I am really happy with the guitar, and when I first strummed the 12 string preset I grinned so wide. It has given me a newness to playing with all the possibilities. Still learning it, but I don't think you will regret the purchase. -
Can't Get Workbench To Work On Mac
sandman69 replied to u182155's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yeah they did that during later stages of Lion or Mountain Lion I think. A big security vulnerability (big surprise) came up with Java and shortly after they directed everyone to update via java.com. Apple used to provide their own version built off of the released code, so there were always delays with fixes. Apple is just BSD under the covers, just a matter of creating the proper links. Apple is closed, until you open the hood ;) -
Can't Get Workbench To Work On Mac

O and if you are using the interface you need to connect a 1/4 cable to the JTV. -

That's not true anymore. Apple pulled that since Java was getting so many security hits regularly and was making them behind everyone. You can download the latest Java for OSX right from their site. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Going by his output he is runing 1.6 update 65. So you can update to Java 7 (1.7) and see if that helps. I have a feeling it won't. I have heard people had issues with the older workbench and Mavericks. It works for me, but I didn't do much with the old Workbench before upgrading. Also, since you just got the guitar you may want to look at using Workbench HD and upgrade the JTV to 2.0. You will need to use the included interface when making guitar presets and if you use a Pod you can't program the JTV through it. That fix should be any day... I kid... I kid... Anyway, Workbench HD is miles ahead of the old workbench. -
Hmm, maybe I should try an older firmware. I rolled back to 1.9, but probably going back to 2.0 as the old workbench is a pain and the HD version so much better. I was looking at the lock settings, but the only one that supports the model selector includes a lock on the volume tone as well. Definitely don't want that. That manual quote is a little confusing... I guess that means you can select the Mag pickups always when you lock it, but that still won't let me use the model that is on the piezo's virtual pickups via the selector.. Don't want to run two cables anyway. Or can both signals ride the VDI? I just started building some presets on the Pod to switch the JTV. I was hoping to have a bank with one amp setup and the 2nd switch would let me switch to the strat, then another to a tele. But maybe I will need to get even more granular and have the presets change JTVs pickup setup as well. Kind of a bummer, but could definitely start eating up some presets.
-
Is there anyway to have the Variax model that is selected within a HD500 preset stay persistent while using the 3-way selector? I would like a preset to change lets say to the Lester 1. Then while playing I might want to change the pickup say bridge pickup or neck pickup and what not. Whenever this is done it will change the model to whatever is on the selector knob and not the one within the preset.

Link Cable With Jtv69
sandman69 replied to u182155's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I bought the cable from Dunkin_Dal. Really nice cables IMO. I like braided guitar cables and the ends are good. Not to mention I ordered it on Sunday and got it on Wed. http://line6.com/support/topic/958-added-new-colors-cool-vdi-cable/ -
Funny, that is the one thing that bugged me when I opened up my brand new JTV59 2 weeks ago. The Switch seemed difficult to switch into the down position. I am used to my LP's switch and figured it just needed to be used. It actually feels a little better but nowhere close to my LPs,buttery smooth. Maybe it will get a little smoother with use... Hopefully that is the case.

Potential Issues With My New Jtv59p?
sandman69 replied to the29band's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have had great luck with Sweetwater over the years. Heck, knock on wood, I have had great service with MusiciansFriend, Music123 and Zzounds. Although, Sweetwater are the only ones that send me candy. Nothing like a little Bit O Honey while messing with new gear. They also usually call me a couple days after I receive it to make sure everything is ok. Actually, I don't think I have ever had a bad experience on almost anything I have bought musicianly related.
