Topaz
Just arrived. So far I've unboxed it and put it in my hands. Strings feel more stiff for 10's, unless these are 11's. So, if they are 10's I'm going to try 9's and see whats what. Lots of discussion on the neck here on the forum... Don't find the neck/nut width too small or restricting. The neck itself is more like a club but nothing out of the ordinary than some of my other instrument neck that are fat.. Kinda similar to the EVH Wolfgang standard I recently got. Verdict... adapt to it and it should be fine. High E and B nut slots seem to be a tad wide for the strings where I got a 'ping' on the B string when stretching it.... like there's two tiny places for the string to seat into at the bottom of the slot. I'll give them a few passes with nut files So, now to re-string, set it up then plug it all into the HD and hope it doesn't blow up

psarkissian
D'Addario XL110- are 10's, and are factory issue. If you go to 9's, you'll have to get the set-up adjusted. Use a Line 6 authorized service center.
Topaz
What setup besides the usual adjustments needs to be done to this thing? This thing'll need a new nut. I fixed the B string but the high E was cut wrong/low and just spizzed out. I've filled it and trying to recut a new slot that won't spizz... awright... got one that rings ok open string. Still need to get nut replaced considering. High and low E's could be brought in a hair. Still haven't checked the electronics as I've been dikking with this nut, lol

Topaz
Great, no authorized guitar tech/luthier near me, only electronics services. Guess I'm gonna hafta pay for a new nut for a brand new guitar. Way to go Line 6, lol I use 10's on other fenders but the 69 felt like do do with the 10's that were on there and feels way nicer with 9's I nput on. Pickups sound nice thankfully. This guitar could almost use string trees on the b&e
psarkissian
Check with the five authorized places in your area, I would think one of them can deal with a JTV.
Topaz
Check with the five authorized places in your area, I would think one of them can deal with a JTV. I'm sorry but the ones that might do guitars are in Manhattan 50 miles away. No way I'm schlepping back and forth to that traffic pothole hellhole nightmare. There's 2 good luthiers near me who are authorized for other companies, but not yours. 2 suggestions......First, fire James Tyler whoever the hell he is for s#$@ designs and, two, stop using child slave labor and better quality control in whatever overseas sweatshop you grind these instruments out of. Other than that it's a nice $200 guitar for a thousand bucks, lol

Way to go Line 6, lol Despite official proclamations to the contrary, you don't need one. There's nothing about slotting a nut on a JTV that's any more exotic than any other guitar in the universe. Any competent luthier can do it. The only question is whether or not you're willing to pay for it...granted that stings a little on a new guitar, but "authorized service centers" the world over are a roll of the dice anyway. Cough...Warmoth...cough, excuse me. ;)
Topaz
Cough...Warmoth...cough, excuse me. ;) Yeah, eventually. :D I had to make several tries with the baking soda/superglue to fill and recut before the open e sounded clean. Actually right now its sounding about as clear as anyone else is going to do it. Should hold up for awhile tho'. I spent the afternoon setting it up to how I like it and actually find it feels good. Once the neck breaks in it should theoretically be an even better improvement. Still haven't done the variax thing yet. In a little while though
cruisinon2
Yeah, eventually. :D I had to make several tries with the baking soda/superglue to fill and recut before the open e will sound decent enough. Once the neck breaks in it should theoretically be an ever much better improvement. Still haven't done the variax thing yet. In a little while though Check your PM's... Topaz
I've plugged it into the 500X with the VDI cable I also purchased. Immediately I heard horrible dissonance when trying out the altered tunings. So I scoured the forum for this issue. Turns out the natural acoustic loudness of the guitar itself was clashing in my ears to the alt tunings, lol. Once I focused them out I realized the alt tunings sounded correct. lol I haven't yet checked the firmware on this yet or opened up workbench. I have noticed another complaint in threads.... weird noises, string gauges, fret buzz, piezo sensitivity, being all related. With that in mind I tried some acoustics and some acoustic variax presets on the HD and the sound was a bit 'splatty' and not as narural sounding as I've heard in demos. This however I will attribute to the fact that 9's on this guitar feels good to me (more like a set of 10's would actually feel) and I like low action. So there is no way I'm gonna jack the action up and put heavier strings on to alleviate any fret buzz and be miserable, lol. Perhaps when I get to the workbench there are piezo sensitivity settings or whathaveyou to help make a better tone Howeeeeeverrrrrrrr, if I find more value in alt tunings and acoustic models, which I most likely will in the long run..... I mean I already have the modeled electrics in their real form....and I won't be using the 69 as much of a shred/string bender, Ill put 11's on it. I do think it lends some "fullness" to the acoustic models.
davidb7170
Mine is fine with 10's on it. I use the same gage and brand on both my 69S, 59, and my other electrics. I make them the same to have the same feel on all of them. Dave
Topaz
Thanks David The instruments I've managed to accrue are all pretty much disparate , in that I haven't acquired multiples of the same model, so virtually all my necks and string gauges vary depending on the guitar. When I haven't pulled out a particular guitar in a long while it might feel a tad weird at first but after just a few minutes its fine, lol
