Bluetooth/Midi access for Pod HD500 devices

After the new AMPLIFi devices came out with Bluetooth support, specifically for the mobile app to edit patches, I wondered if the Pod HD devices could be retrofitted with this capability.  I did some research and found a number of Midi to Bluetooth adapters that didn't appear to be that expensive.  They basically plug into the Midi In and Midi Out/Thru ports on the device and convert the Midi signal to a Bluetooth signal.  From what I saw these were primarily designed for keyboard players to help reduce the number of cables in their setup.  What I was wonder is if all that would be needed was a mobile app like for the AMPLIFi devices have that would send and receive the Midi data over Bluetooth.  Would Line6 ever consider creating a "kit" that would include the adapter and the app?  Does anyone know of any technical issues that would not make this possible?  From what I've read mentioned over and over again on these forums is that Pod HD users would love to have an easier way to edit or create patches at rehearsals or gigs without having to bring a laptop and a USB cable or fumble around with the onboard menus.  Anyone have any comments on this?

I highly doubt Line 6 is going to spend any resources on this for the current pods. The devices weren't designed from the start to be able to do this. The best you can hope for with the current pods would be what you just suggested. But you'd be limited to how the pod can be controlled by midi, which is basically effect toggles and patch changes. There's some more it can do, but I currently forget.

But being able to construct patches wirelessly on the current pods I just don't see happening. My guess is the next generation pods will have this functionality.

BT is slow. Which would be a pain each time you hook up, because the unit does a complete sync.

EDIT slows down the machine, so live application of EDIT is pointless - be it wired or wireless.

Your best bet would be to ask for wired android versions of EDIT.

The trickiest part is getting the unit to recognize a device.

New devices can be made for this stuff. Older stuff, is limited to what can be done with what was already done.

Bluetooth is working great between my iPad and Eventide H9. I would still like to see L6 come out with HD Edit for iPad so that you could use USB with a camera kit to connect the two.

Yeah, I think I remember reading Digital Igloo saying that this was the reason there likely won't be any sort of development with BT for the HD stuff. The amount of time needed to sync all the parameters becomes problematic. It takes a little while for the Amplifi to sync with the remote app, and it's much more limited from an editable parameter perspective than the HD.

This is an idea that I wondered about too.

Just to point out, the Amplifi And Firehawk devices do this exact thing, so it's not true that Bluetooth is too slow to handle this. A single patch consists of a very small amount of data.

I doubt Line6 would build this though. Maybe it will be in the next product (which will have to be named either POD 4k, if they follow the TV metaphor, or POD Firehawk x3 Live if they redo the past). Maybe I'll start a Kickstarter...hmmmm
