dalechambers
I am a relatively new user of both the Variax and the 500X. I am having trouble with the 100s of tone options available. My question for those who may be more experienced ... is there one or two amp models or presets that you would recommend in order to appropriately discern the differences in the various Variax models. Thanks for the help.
line-6-user
I too would like to know this. Maybe Line 6 could tell us what's the best amp for specific guitars.
CipherHost
There are a lot of great folks with JTVs and the older Variax guitar modelers who can help you here. Until some of those folks chime in, (no pun intended), I'm guessing you might want to take a look at these Line6 videos if you have not already. http://line6.com/support/forum-18/announcement-27-latest-hd500x-tone-building-videos/
pianoguyy
IF you are running the latest firmware, there is a setlist designed specifically for the Variax. It is a good place to start. See which you like. See what they use in them. Start building your own around your likes.
grandinq
For what it's worth: I liked the combination of the Lester and the P75 for a nice classic rock tone. Add Tube Drive to beef up the crunch level. Spank on neck setting with the Double verb is a nice grouping as well for clean Strat tones. For the Tele bridge setting I like the Plexi normal amp. I had been trying the AC30 but it was too trebly for me. For a jazz sound I like the Semi or Jazzbox on neck setting with the Gibtone amp. Just a few basic suggestions.
ppiluk
It depends on what type of music you want to play. I play the blues so I usually stick to patches with the Fender style amp or my favourite amp in the POD...The Dr Z Route 66. As for the Variax, I like the Semi-Hollows. arislaf
Flip top is the model that is more flat sounding, very good for clean. Although I would suggest you to go clean without any amp... Or even go with the amp you will use most.. If you need a list with what amp to use at each model separately I can tell u also, but will be IMO
zaphodboy
I have found that the best combinations approximate what you often find in 'real' rigs. The strat models tend to sound better with the Twin model, LP model with the JCM or Park etc. That's not to say that other combinations can sound great of course, but this is a good place to start.
