RogerH
Hello. I just got a new JTV-89f for my birthday, and I like it a lot so far. But the volume knob is not working on the magnetic picups. Is this by design or a fault? It works fine on the digital models....
talwilkins
That is definitely faulty.
RogerH
Ok. Thanks for your reply. Is it possible that it can be solved by a reflash? (I don't think so, just hoping)
Charlie_Watt
No. If it doesn't work when in Mags mode, then there is a wiring problem. It's basically a standard guitar in that mode with passive pickup wiring. It should work fine this way with the battery removed.
talwilkins
Still, it's worth a try :)
psarkissian
What Charlie_Watt said,.... most likely an intermittent connection. Log into your account and make sure the guitar is registered, then go into the Ticket system in your account and log a ticket. Then Customer Support will be brought into it. Problem is further up the chain somewhere. Re-flashing the firmware is worth a try...it certainly won't make it any worse, but I suspect it won't help much either. Likely a physical connection issue somewhere.
Charlie_Watt
The pot for the models is different than the mags. I think it's a ganged pot. (2 pots)

Charlie_Watt
If it's new, I would return it for a replacement.
RogerH
Thanks for your replies guys. I will contact the shop tomorrow. I think I need to go trough them and not Line6 directly because I live in Norway.
psarkissian
Check for Line 6 authorized service in your area (Euro/Scandinavia region) for the one closest to you. If it's still under warranty, use it. The way it's wired on the inside, is not the same as a guitar with passive electronics. Someone mentioned ganged pot,.... not quite the way you think it is. Line 6 authorized service will have access to the service info. I'm the guy at Line 6 headquarters, who services JTV's. I see too many times when a JTV comes across my bench because someone got in over their heads,... and voided the warranty in the process. Going through proper channels is less trouble. The people at the "authorized" service centers will have experience with these,... and some else might not. JTV's are unforgiving for someone who has little or no experience servicing JTV's. Going outside the system is risky that way. And I'm in constant contact for assistance with my Euro counterparts, should they need any. RogerH
I sent the guitar back to the shop for repair. They will take care of sending it to an authorized service center. If they (the shop) screw up something, they should give me a new guitar. I hate to send it away because it seems to be a good guitar, but after all I just went on vacation for 2 weeks and after that I will be away at work for another 2 weeks. Hopfully after these 4 week I can play with a fully functional instrument
RogerH
Ok, it's time for an update. Called the shop a week ago, and they told me that the guitar wouldn't be fixed. A new guitar was on it's way. So today i recieved a new guitar. First impression was that the finish was a little better on my first guitar, but the difference was subtle. At first I just played it without any amplification, just to hear the guitar. And i think it it sounded better. The first one had some dead spots on the neck, a few notes that had less sustain. The new didn't have any issues. Then I tested the magnetic pickups and the analog controls. Everything was working good, and I could use the volume pot as on an ordinary guitar. Then came the shock. I Tried the tuning knob, and nothing happened.....I was able to change guitarmodels, but not the tunings. I thought that It could be a flat battery causing this. I charged the battery for several hours and tested again. Now everything works great and the guitar plays fantastic. I also noticed that I need less force when pressing down the model knob to engage the dsp models. So now I am a very happy variax owner.
