RogerH
I sold my X3Live a couple of years ago. There was something missing in the sound, something with the punch/attack on semi overdriven sounds. I promised myself that I was done with amp modeling, but after I got a Variax (JTV-89f) I've been thinking about a HD500x. Do you think that it will be a better experience for me ? arislaf
Better sound quality but requires a hell of learning curve to achieve a great sound out of it... You will be a sound engineer kind of procces.
RogerH
I don't mind tweaking as long as can reach my goal. I had no problem with tweaking the X3Live, but there was something missing in the sound
joel_brown
PODHD is a nice step up from the X3Live. But it takes a while to learn how to use it. There's a couple quirks with it that you need to be aware of. For example, Input settings are very important.
cruisinon2
Most 500X users around here are quite satisfied with their units, myself included...but if what you saw as the X3's shortcomings are still weighing that heavily on your mind, odds are pretty good that you'll be frustrated by the 500X right out of the box. There's not a whole lot of instant gratification with this thing...none, truth be told. My initial impression was "I've just wasted $500"... Be prepared to spend a considerable amount of time getting the sound you're after. It's definitely doable, just takes a while.
pianoguyy
You've waited this long... (And I am not one for usually doing this) Why not wait for the *NEW UNIT* to be released. Not only will other units be sold on the used market, but it allegedly will fix every complaint we've ever had and will even even fix complaints we didn't know we had. But, to answer the question: Yes, the 500x will be a better experience for you. Will it be what you are looking for? This, I can't tell you. But, it is a better unit. joel_brown
Assuming the New Unit is the Helix it's $1500 instead of $500. There's a bunch of used PODHDs on eBay for $200 to $300 and new for $500. At this point I'd consider used or what they call New B Stock for a reduced price.

The HELIX is looking very good, but maybe a little more money than I want to spend. But I am in no hurry so it may be a good advice to wait a little. The main reason that I'm considering a POD again is the Variax controll option. Right now I'm using a Huhges&Kettner Tubemeister 36 that has the option of going direct if I need it.
