357mag
Was wondering... If all I want to do is play my Strat along with a backing track listening using headphones, will this work okay if I'm using Linux? Reason I ask is I'm thinking about switching to Netrunner for awhile anyway and I know now that my EMU 1212 sound card will work with Linux, but I don't know if my POD will work with Linux. But if I am not interested in doing any recording into a DAW, but rather just playing along with a backing track, maybe I can still do this even with Linux? Watcha think? Rewolf48
I don't believe that the HD500 USB is class compliant, so you will need a driver for USB audio and I don't know that one exists - Line 6 certainly don't support Linux. You can however just connect from a headphone output to the HD500 MP3 input - that works with anything
joel_brown
Why ? Linux is a cheap alternative for people who want to run websites or database servers. Yeah it can do other stuff but why do you want to go to all this trouble for jamming with a backing track ? If you don't want to run Windows or OSx, just plug into your phone and jam along. Sheeeesh anything but what you're trying to do. If you have this much spare time you need to practice more...

I don't see how that is an unreasonable request. What do you mean just plug into your phone and jam along? To jam along you gotta use the POD with a sequencer which is on your computer. You gotta use Reaper or some other DAW to play the backing track while you play the guitar. Unless the POD has some king of ability to play WAV file backing tracks right from within itself, which is news to me.
Rewolf48
You can render a track or section of a track in reaper to an mp3 or set of mp3s, and then play them on repeat from any mp3 player (including a phone) that is connected via a stereo 1/8 jack into the mp3 input on the HD500. That said I do find it more convenient running Reaper on the computer and playing it over USB through the HD500
357mag
I'll stick to what I'm presently doing then. If I decide to switch to Linux I will need to get the POD working with Linux. I'm working with a guy that might have some info on how to get that going.
Rewolf48
The only Linux solutions I have seen involve running windows in a virtual machine...
hmoller
at least in kernel 4.4 are included line6 modules. In ubuntu if you go to /lib/modules/4.4.0-36-generic/kernel/sound/usb/line6 you will see the modules:snd-usb-line6snd-usb-podhdsnd-usb-podsnd-usb-toneportsnd-usb-variaxyou should be able to load them with: modprobeexample:sudo modprobe snd-usb-podhdunfortunnately I haven't been able to bring my hd500x running, I don't know if it is because of the X or not. modprobe work's fine but I don't see it withcat /proc/asound/cardsnor I see it in alsamixer.hope this help, let us know how it goes. spaceatl
I have an EMU 1820 that I have had for over 10 years...Same primary card as the 1212 with the audio dock...Great card and IO IMHO. Why not just run SPDIF from your 500 to your 1212? Seems like that would be a little easier?
cruisinon2
The more complicated the plumbing, the easier it is to clog the drain. Headphone out from the device of your choosing to mp3 in on the POD. Cans on, and you're off to the races...
