fobsternd
Whenever I make a change in the editor like raising the volume of a patch and sending it, the change can only be heard if I switch to that patch by double clicking on it. If I step on the footswitch for that patch, the volume is still at what it was before the "send". Anyone know what is happening?
cruisinon2
"Send" doesn't "save" to the device, at least not on mine...though it should. The little asterisk remains on the screen on the POD, indicating that changes have been made, but not saved. This topic came up recently in another thread...I was told this is a long know "bug", and that the changes actually are saved when sent from HD EDIT, but I'll argue all day long that this isn't the case, at least not on my device. If I don't save manually on the POD itself, any changes I made will be lost. As with yours, if I hit the footswitch without saving manually, it reverts back to the previous settings. I made my peace with it long ago. When I'm done editing, I just reach down and tap "save". Irritating, but problem solved. What I don't have is the other problem you mention...I can hear the changes I make on the fly as I make them, without having to double click on the same patch again. No idea what's up with that. You might want to try re-installing the edit software.

cruisinon2
My asterisks disappear after sending. Not sure what you guys are talking about. Well asterisk or no, the changes you make are either being saved to the device, or they aren't...if not, then try reinstalling the edit software, and/or doing a factory reset on the POD (after backing up your patches). Those are really the only options you've got.

cruisinon2
Or pressing the save button on the POD? Yes, that solves the send/save issue, but won't address the problem of not being able to hear the changes as you make them, without double-clicking on the patch again. Something else is going on there...any change you make should be audible instantly, without the extra step of sending/saving from the edit software, or re-clicking on the patch itself. line-6-user
Yes, that solves the send/save issue, but won't address the problem of not being able to hear the changes as you make them, without double-clicking on the patch again. Something else is going on there...any change you make should be audible instantly, without the extra step of sending/saving from the edit software, or re-clicking on the patch itself. My HD500 has had the Save bug since first purchased, no matter how many updates the unit has it give unpredictable results, sometimes it will save without any problems and on other times it won't. The asterisk (*) is always visible on the HD500's screen during editing through the computer. Throughout the editing I can hear the changes being made, the I send the patch to the Pod and it saves it. The asterisk it still showing on the Pod. What happens next is what it's likely to happen to many of us... you go to select a different preset that it was edited on an earlier occasion and find that the volume is too loud or quiet. VERY FRUSTRATING!! The solution is (in my case) to simply move the espression pedal up and down, or move the volume strips in the mixer screen on the computer, then do put them back where they were originally. This will tell you if the preset was already saved but to add more confusion, you doing this fiddling, the preset has now changed. All you have to do now is click restore FROM the the HD500 on the computer. 90% of the time I just move the espression pedal, then click Restore and it seem to be working. The other way is to save on the pod itself. The problem has been there no mater what computer I have used it with.
line-6-user
That's one of the reasons that I hesitate buying line6 products... it's annoying to have to go through the forum's posts to asses if a particular product is working without a glitch, before deciding if to purchase it. I am interested in an Helix but have no idea of its problems. Line6 would do me, you and themselves a favour if they release their products AFTER sorting out Software and hardware problems. BillBee
Tell that to the auto companies and every software company too. IMO pressing the "save" button is not a biggie.
silverhead
... Line6 would do me, you and themselves a favour if they release their products AFTER sorting out Software and hardware problems. I guess it depends on what you mean by 'sorting out'. If you mean 100% bug free then no software products would ever be released by anyone, not just Line 6. If you mean 'to my satisfaction' then there's a different (and unspecified) threshold for every user. Line 6, and all other software, hardware, and embedded systems manufacturers release products when they deem their internal thresholds have been met through internal and beta testing. Inevitably, in all products, there are remaining bugs and anomalies that are only encountered after full public release, or that have been deemed sufficiently minor that they should not delay public release. Anyone remember the VHS vs. Betamax battle (you probably don't unless you were buying VCRs in the '80s)? You never hear of either anymore, but back in the day Betamax was a superior technology. However, they lost the market completely because they stayed in the lab too long perfecting their technology. VHS claimed the market by mass-releasing an inferior technology first. BillBee
8 tracks were better - jumping to a track by pushing a button was sweet - in the 70s btw (and so was Betamax) :)
line-6-user
I still think that if Line6 releases an editor for the pod or any other product for that matter it has to make it sure that the thing works. What is the point of trying to edit something on the computer and not being able to save it. The least that they could do is to REMOVE the Send to the device (or whatever it's called) icon from the Edit software and instead have a Big ICON that reminds you to save from the HD500. Actually... it might be best not having an editor at all if it can't be working as it is meant to! I have used my Pod for about 4 years now and got used to it but hell I have lost alot of hair... partly because of it. :D If only computers would stick to their "routines"... :P
BillBee
My man, just think about when windoze 13 comes out if the HD is not recognized. Those wee encoders take a bunch of abuse spinning from 0 to 100 and I try to use them only for "rehearsal" tweaking. Things could be worse I suppose is what I am blathering about. :) My poor hair too!
cruisinon2
My poor hair too! It's all or nothing, gents...there is no way to go bald gracefully. Half a head of hair looks horrendous on EVERYONE. When the time comes, Gillette offers the only real solution. Cue-Balls unite! ;)

fobsternd
Yea the original issue that I had was that the changes couldn't be heard AFTER sending the patch. And they could only be heard only when I double click on the patch from the editor. Pressing the footswitch only brought up the pre-send settings even though I kept sending and sending. The fix was to press the save button on the POD itself. But as Crusinon said, his issue is that he can't hear any changes WHILE actually changing them BEFORE sending. THIS issue, I do not have. Whenever you make a change to a patch in Edit, making sure you have the patch highlighted, click SEND > SELECTED to save. THEN Switch to another patch. Then switch back. Does that fix it? cruisinon2
But as Crusinon said, his issue is that he can't hear any changes WHILE actually changing them BEFORE sending. THIS issue, I do not have. I don't that problem, never did, and I never claimed otherwise...you did, in the very first post in this thread: "Whenever I make a change in the editor like raising the volume of a patch and sending it, the change can only be heard if I switch to that patch by double clicking on it." Only problem I have is that changes are not saved to the device when sent from the editor. That needs to be done manually on the POD itself. I can hear changes in real time just fine, as I make them. BBD_123
So what did you mean by " Won't address the problem of not being able to hear the changes as you make them, without double-clicking on the patch again? Not wishing to enter this argument only to find out whether or not what I suggested above actually fixed the problem. I had something similar to you when I first got my HD and it turned out that I was missing that in EDIT the patch must be highlighted in the User list at the left before it can be saved. So my 'saves' weren't always saving and that gave me a headache that sounds oddly like yours.

I only mentioned 1 problem You said you can't hear the changes you make until another action is performed...double-clicking on the patch. That implies that you can't hear the changes as they're made. Your words, not mine. Now that might not be what you MEANT, but it is what you said. And it is a completely separate issue from the changes not being saved when you hit "send" from the editor. So yes, you did indeed cite 2 separate problems. Either way, this has officially become ridiculous and is solving nothing, so I'm bowing out. Good luck. I made this video and sent a ticket to line6 a couple of months back and Pete from Line 6 Support said: "Thank you for the detailed video and explanation. "the change can only be heard if I switch to that patch by double clicking on it." There's only one way to interpret that sentence. There is no ambiguity there. "I can only hear the changes if I also do this". Period. But clearly you have no intention of letting this go...so if you need to "win", fine. You win. I officially surrender. You're right, I'm wrong. Moving on. Feel free to get the last word in if that's important for you. I'm not responding anymore, as this is a complete waste of everyone's time. They have known of this problem for years now... plenty of complains. As I have serious back problem and can't do much bending down, I found best to save the presets from within the edit software then when recalling it back, I move the espression pedal up and down (mine is set for amp channel volume change, Min.20% - Max 50%), then the stored volume change is restored. Now, doing so the HD Edit will show the asterisk on the current patch (because you moved the espression pedal), take no notice of this. The way to remove it is to restore the already saved preset from the HD Edit (top left of the screen. Another way that has worked for me is to move one or both sliders in the mixer and the reset them, then do the restore procedure as above. From then on pressing the foot switches back and forth it seem to be working just fine. Like I said... this works for me and hope it will for you too.
