tenorkeith
Hello all. I just upgraded my Helix firmware to 2.11 last night. Now, today I am experiencing a glitch in one of my scribble strip windows. It is constantly scrolling and breaking up the text no matter what I do or which buttons I push. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this after upgrading firmware, or is this a hardware thing? Thanks in advance for your help!
phil_m
Why did you just go to 2.11 and not to the latest, 2.21? Did you do the 9 + 10 FS reset procedure after updating? In any case, I'd try doing the update again.
HonestOpinion
Hopefully the title of this topic will end up being "Firmware upgrade glitch and then scribble strip glitch". I second the motion and agree with the post above. There is always the possibility of the scribble strip problem being persistent and not actually related to the upgrade but it it more likely the firmware upgrade did not take properly. Try doing another update and global reset as phil_m suggested with the latest and greatest 2.21 firmware and see if that fixes it.
tenorkeith
Sorry, I meant 2.21. And I did do the 9 & 10 button thing. I will try the update again, and report back later. Thanks!
tenorkeith
OK, so here's where I am with this. I went back to the earlier version of the firmware, and rebooted it and it still did the same thing. Then I reinstalled the 2.21 firmware, and again, that scribble window is glitching like crazy. I did notice however that it wasn't doing it after it had been off overnight. But after it had been on for about 15 minutes or so, it started doing it again. So my thought is that it is hardware related, and it has to do with the heat of the Helix somehow once it warms up. It's really disappointing, since I haven't really used the unit that much and it has never even been out of my house. Now that I finally have time in my crazy schedule to sit down and work with the Helix, I'm really digging it (except for this issue, of course). When I first got the Helix, I thought that I had avoided some of the problems the early adopters were having. But I guess some things just creep up a little bit later than others. I hope that Line 6 can help me take care of this problem.

MusicLaw
@tenorkeith, Wow! That's a crazy scrambled scribble strip photo you attached! Reposted here in full size: How long have you had your Helix? Also, if you had not seen the recent development, Line 6 extended the Helix Warranty to 2 Years for all USA purchasers. Rest assured, they will get your Helix sorted out.
tenorkeith
@musiclaw, thank you for letting me know about that warranty development. I feel much better now! I've had my Helix since February of last year and until now, have not had any issues. It is surreal to watch the screen do that. Very unsettling. spikey
Since you did nothing to it but change the software for this to happen ( and it was not doing it beforehand), to me that's still a software glitch. And from I read you did everything right to fix it on your end. Hopefully, Line 6 can sort it out for you ( and the rest of us if needed). tenorkeith
Hey Spikey, I would tend to agree with you if not for the fact that the earlier firmware version is also doing it now. And since it is consistently doing it only after the unit is warmed up makes me suspect that there might be a bad solder joint in there somewhere. But you're right, the timing is a little suspicious. MusicLaw
I have no doubt Line 6 will want to get this diagnosed and remedied ASAP! Keep the thread updated with developments.

I believe this scribble strip says "Contact tech support" in an ancient Sanskrit dialect. :P I am sure Line6 will take care of you. Good luck with this! tenorkeith
Hey everyone. I just wanted to update you on the progress of this repair. I am happy to report that line 6 was very responsive, got me a shipping label, repaired and returned my Helix to me, all in Just over a week! Suffice to say that I am very impressed with line 6's Service department. And also, a great big shout out to Pete at line 6, Who guided me through the process every step of the way. It's nice to see that some companies actually do give a damn about their customers! Thank you!!!
