Benni2407
Hello everybody, I got a problem with my JTV-59. After having updated to firmware 2.0 position 3 and 5 of the toggle switch are the same. The sound doesn't change at all and workbench recognizes both switch positions as "position 5". Flashing down to firmware 1.71 and up to 2.0 didn't help. Now in all firmware versions the problem persists. In magnetic mode the switch works fine. Does anyone have similar issues or has a solution for this? Thanks in advance, Benni
ozbadman
I haven't heard of this before. It sounds like hardware, not software. I can't remember if the new 3-way switch has separate poles for magnetic and modelled pickups or not. So, it could be the switch, or it could be some of the hardware after the switch. I'd call Line 6 Support.
Benni2407
Thanks ozbadman! Unfortunately my warranty time is already over. Maybe someone has a suggestion what I could try before contacting Line 6 support?
silverhead
I would still contact Line 6 support - open a support ticket to deal with them directly. They may be able to diagnose the problem and give you a no-cost fix. The expired warranty would only become a cost to you if the device needs servicing. ozbadman
FWIW, it sounds like there is a short somewhere between positions 3 and 5 of the switch when it's modelling. You could disconnect the switch and at least check that with a multimeter. After that, it becomes much harder to fix yourself.
Benni2407
Thanks to the two of you! I hoped there would be a simple solution for this, but now I'll contact Line6. regards, Benni
jurassicmike
Yeah- I just upgraded to 2.0, and now the position switch will not light up,(Blue and white lights will not light) and when I press the button down, sound goes dead- so now I can't access several positions. Worked for an hour live- then failed. This is a Jtv-59.`
Benni2407
There really seem to be some serious issues with firmware 2.0! In the german forum someone had the exact same problem, as I had, just with a JTV-69. @jurassicmike: have you tried flashing to an older version and then reflashing 2.0? airmanchairman
My weeks old Jtv-69 has failed on me, literally hours after first use. I charged the battery up as per instructions, fitted it, and then played around with the guitar, auditing the sounds and tunings. I then updated the software on my POD XT using Sound Monkey, and downloaded the Workbench HD update successfully. I then connected the Variax to Workbench (detected successfully) via my Mac in the hope of updating the firmware to the HD version; the (blue and white) lights on both the Tuning and Model knobs illuminated briefly, no messages displayed on Sound Monkey, and then the lights went out on the guitar. Since then I've not been able to get the guitar to power up. I'm currently recharging the battery, but also have a Line 6 XPS DI box powering the guitar, with no joy in powering the guitar up. What on earth could the matter be?

Benni2407
Hi there, are there any news regarding this issue? I contacted Line6 directly, but the only answer I got was that I should send the guitar to a service center, because they think there must be something wrong with the hardware. Unfortunately my warranty is already over and I don't want to pay for that repair, because my guitar has already had different issues and I had already sent it in for three times (within the warranty). I am really upset now... :( Any suggestions for help? Has anyone solved this problem yet?
guitarmech111
Anyone notice the planned obsolescence of line6 equipment? I am getting a new switch. It is only $20 so it won't be that big of a hit. If I took it to a shop, throw in another $86 for labor... No thanks.

What on earth could the matter be? The lights aren't on, so are the mags working? Is the fact that you can't switch it into modelling mode? It may be the knob on the modelling switch. some of the knobs are drilled too deep, so it moves down to the point where you can't depress the switch. pull the knob off of the modelling switch and see if the switch works by itself. If it works, stuff some paper up inside the knob so that it won't slide down the switch too far.

If it works, stuff some paper up inside the knob so that it won't slide down the switch too far. Line 6 Support asked the same questions and made the same suggestion, but the switch under the knob wouldn't power the guitar either, and the mags weren't working to boot. On their advice, the unit was returned to the vendor as having a defective power supply or circuit board, and a replacement unit sent, which I received recently and am well pleased with... Benni2407
Hello folks, I don't know if some people still have trouble with this issue, but there are some news I want to tell you: A few days after my last post in this thread, Line6 contacted me directly and offered me to send the guitar in and handle it as warranty, although my warranty time is already over (thanks Line6!). Now I got my guitar back and the problem is solved. They simply changed the three way switch, which seemed to have been faulty. Now everything appears to work correctly :) So again big thanks to Line6 and maybe this helps other users to solve that problem. regards, Benni
abendickson
I have the opposite problem. Updated to 2.0 and now the 5 way switch doesn't work for the MAGNETIC pickups! Modeling works fine, but the neck pickup in magnetic mode doesn't work at all.
navindra
Hi, I have exactly the same problem -- failure of the toggle switch after 2.0 update. I think my guitar shipped with a defective switch, however because of the age of the guitar, Line6 cannot help me, even though the guitar is in basically new condition. How did you get help on this? Thanks! Navin.
