rudomat
hi....i´m having problems with usb ground loops, when connected with the pc...i´m running my hx fx in 4cm...as soon as i connect the hx fx with the via usb cable with the pc, i get this ground loop noise... can you tell me: is it maybe the usb cable...? could it be, i need a usb 3.0 cable or so...? i bought this HI FI ISAR540 usb isolator...when i plugged it in first, i was happy - the noise was gone...but two seconds later, the connection was gone as well...;-) i also tried it with a usb cable with repeater...didn´t connect either... any hints...? thanks a lot! rd2rk
Define " ground loop noise". Is it a 60 hz hum or a high pitched kind of squeal?
soundog
Never had this problem, and have never heard it reported. Do you get the noise when you aren't using 4cm? Is your PC plugged in to an outlet, or running on battery? Need more troubleshooting clues.

soundog
Open up a ticket with Line 6, methinks.
rudomat
ok...i´ve opened a ticket and have to say, line6 can´t help me...;-(...that´s pretty poor support... (>You can try to insert DI boxes somewhere in the signal-path, sometimes a Hum-Eliminator also helps...) what now...do i need to buy several di boxes and hum eliminators and try to put them "somewhere in the signal chain"...??? come on.... spikey
Ok, just a question or two. If possible, change the cable 1st. Then.... How close is HX to the computer? Does the noise change when you move it, or your guitar from the monitor? Does the HX go completely quiet on the monitors when the USB is unplugged from the computer? Is there another place to plug in the computer (even if you have to use an extension cord) for testing? This still "could be" a bad USB cable, dirty power, no ground at the outlet, etc etc... PeterHamm
Is it a laptop? Does it go away when you unplug the AC cable and use the laptop on batteries? It might. Ground issues with wiring in a building is beyond the scale of "opening a ticket" anyway, and doesn't reflect something wrong with the unit. It's a desktop PC? If it's a laptop, just unplug the power while you're using it to edit. If it's a desktop, it's a little more complicated. soundog
Depends on the PC. Below is something low-cost you could try. But keep in mind hum can also be caused by a faulty PC or poorly-shielded PC. Even a faulty component on a laptop can cause hum. I don't think you mentioned if you were using a laptop or a desktop PC, or an LCD or a CRT monitor. CRTs are notorious for causing hum. Any way, at least you've isolated the culprit.
