There are good reasons to use a DI in a live situation. (I'd never use one in the studio.)

1. Phantom Power? doesn't matter.
2. Level or Impedance issues? Won't even be an issue.
3. not-so-great sound guy? Won't matter.
4. Sounds the same in the house? Yup, with a decent DI. The DOD should be good enough.

You save time using this method if any of the above issues come up.

I must be missing something.

1) use a phantom power blocker (unless the DOD does this and OP is trying to avoid buying a PPB?)

2) how would that ever be an issue with direct from Helix XLR at mic level, big knob assigned to 1/4"?

3) bad FOH guy can FU a free lunch!

4) see 2

What exactly is OP trying to accomplish?

1. Any DI automatically gets rid of phantom power issues. There are SO many "my Helix sounded bad last night, first time live, why did this happen?" posts on the facebook forums it's dizzying.
2. Sometimes, it is, believe it or not. And if you are sending mic level and turning your output way down, you're probably introducing hiss that would most likely not be there if you just used the DI.
3. You have to be friends with your sound guy or you will sound like $#!†. Even if they are idiots.
4. Since the DI signal sounds the same, and there is way less chance you'll have any connection or sound guy issues, why wouldn't you go this way all the time? XLR outs? Use them for your onstage FRFR and in the Studio when necessary. Not live unless you already know before you go in that you are not going to have an issue. That's my philosophy.

I'd just like to add special emphasis for numbers (1) and (3), as they often go together...;)

1) Nice to know I can use my cheap old passive Pyle DI instead of buying a blocker

2) Whatever out I send to FOH, it's at the default (0.0db?), since the Big Knob is set to the out that goes to my stage monitor

3) Since the FOH guy is more than likely gonna FIU anyway, it shouldn't matter that I'm using a $30 Pyle DI vs a $100+ Radial

4) see 1,2 & 3

So, 1/4" out, Inst level (line if FOH needs more signal), Big Knob set to XLR, XLR to my powered stage monitor, good to go.

I haven't played a big enough gig to have my bass into FOH in a long time, but good to know!
