USB Driver install on 64 Bit Windows 10 Code 39 Driver Error

Recommended Posts

After over 10 hours of installing and reinstalling I finally managed to get the USB Driver to install and run.

Problem:

Workbench installs fine

Line 6 Monkey installs and updates fine but reports no USB Driver

Windows Device Manager reports corrupted or incompatible driver when usb interface is plugged in

The solution:

Click Start, Type Core, Select Core Isolation and run, turn off the Memory Integrity then reboot.

The driver then miraculously functions fine.

Line 6, please pin this somewhere as it was incredibly hard to find a solution and please see if the issue can be addressed.

I have been using the Helix since 2017 and I have always gotten this error message when plugging in the USB from the Helix (thru all of the Helix updates). Is this the same fix for Windows 7? (yes I have put in a ticket on this problem with no resolution)

Does turning core isolation off make the computer vulnerable to viruses? I had the same problem with my X3 Live not being recognised by my PC, turning the core isolation off worked as recommended above. My question is, should I turn the isolation back on now? Or will that stop the drivers from working?

Also, I noticed on the Line6 software downloads page, that Windows 11 (what I'm running) isn't listed in the drop-down menu. I went for Windows 10, maybe that has something to do with the drivers not working?

Edit: I can't turn the isolation back on. I guess I would have to uninstall the Line6 drivers to be able to do so.

No, you can't turn it back on without uninstalling the drivers.  I went through and deleted them manually by changing the ownership of the folder and now workbench won't work even with a Helix as the Variax controller (I was hoping that the drivers were just for the regular VDI adapter).  And this isn't just a case of me worrying about good practices and the fact that core isolation is a cyber concern....I have several apps that crash every time that I try to start them if core isolation is disabled.  You all want to talk about how hard it was to figure out to disable it to make workbench work...it was even harder to figure out why these apps were crashing my system.

I have 4 variax guitars....I know that kind of defeats the purpose of the variax technology, but I'm kind of in a tough situation here.  Do I keep my computer vulnerable and not able to use apps and be able to use workbench or do I say screw it and don't update my guitars anymore?  How about Line6 just update the driver?  Variax is still being sold on the Helix so it should be a supported feature.  I think that they are still selling the Yamaha version of the guitars.

Interesting. My Variax guitars, HX Edit, Workbench HD, and Monkey were all working fine until I installed the latest Stadium Driver. Now, Line 6 Monkey and Workbench HD do not find any Line 6 software. I disabled the Core isolation and that DID NOT fix my problem. So I manually removed the offending L6 driver and NOTHING has changed. Opened a Line 6 ticket but have been told on the forums that "like the banner says" LIne 6 Monkey is "RETIRED" as of April 10, 2026. THAT might be my problem. Has anyone tried their Line 6 Monkey since April 10th? I have 3 Variax Guitars (Variax 500 - original before there was a 500 numbered Variax, and 2 JTV-69S's) and a Variax Bass Guitar (5 string model). I have been using them very effectively as I can dial in the tone that I need by simply changing the Variax Model within the Helix Preset by the snapshot I use. Something that the Stadium simply CAN'T do. Not until they release the "fabled" D10. And I am not sure even then - we will see.
