For this i'm planning to get a used powered bookshelf type speakers. This speakers has 2 speakers Right and Left. Left speaker is connected thru a 4 pin speaker cable from the right. It has coaxial/optical input as well as RCA inputs. Can this speakers used for a simple stereo bedroom setup? How shall i connect my Helix to the bookshelf speakers? Thru RCA? I'm new to helix and stereo setup. Can some one help? Thanks
codamedia
1/4" out of the Helix to RCA inputs on the speakers. Yes they will work. How well depends on the quality of the speakers... as it always does.
silverhead
Like codamedia said. In addition, set the Helix 1/4" outputs to Line level. Make sure you begin with the speaker volume controls at a very low level to avoid potential damage - the Helix output may be very loud if the speaker volume level is high.
cruisinon2
Will it work? Yes. Will it sound good? There's only one way to find out... but generally speaking small daisy-chained bookshelf/computer speakers are not terribly high quality. They're fine for having your computer beep at you, but not much else. It's worth a try since they're already there, but don't expect too much. A small pair of powered studio monitors will be infinitely better, and there are a number of options in the sub-$300/pair category.
brue58ski
When you connect the 1/4" outputs to the RCA inputs of the speakers (via a 1/4" to RCA adapeter of course), make sure the 1/4" outputs on the Helix are set for line level output and not instrument level output. As was alluded to earlier, also make sure the main volume knob is turned all of the way down on the Helix when you first hook up. Turn up after everything is powered up. Should be good. Don't forget the equilateral triangle. Try to create one with you and the two speakers as the three corners of the triangle as much as possible. Not critical though.
