sherimehmood
Hi Folks i just noticed something with a new semi hollow body guitar i got. Almost all of the presets have a crackling sound in them. Just for comparison i have recorded a similar clip with an ibanez and there is no crackle with nothing changed on the preset. I am just using a who watt amp in the preset and a looper in the front with factory settings. the guitar is a hofner verythin semi hollow with some random aftermarket hum buckers. I am thinking it might be the pickups but just want to make sure before i change the pick ups as thats a total pain to do on a semi hollow guitar. rd2rk
Sounds like static. Crappy pups, bad wiring/pots/switch/solder job would be my guess.
DunedinDragon
I had something very similar to that on one of my guitars a while back. It turned out to be my pick hitting the pickup slightly.
theElevators
If it’s a new guitar: Did you remove the plastic around the knobs 100%? (If applicable) I’ve had that on a Stratocaster. There was a piece of plastic from the pickguard and it was inducting electricity.

I'll try to pick lightly since this is only coming up when i am strumming could be an issue. I am a heavy strummer. will report back after i record myself with the guitar again. I think this is a decade old guitar and the pickups were defiantly changed by the previous owner. I usually am not the kind of person to be afraid of rewiring a guitar, however semi hollow body guitars are always a pain in the A$% to take apart and put together as you have to work around the f holes. I hope its not crappy wiring or cheap pots or worse crappy pick ups :(
sherimehmood
Didnt get this sorted out sounds like i might have to rewire the guitar. Its a hollowbody so i am dreading not having a back cavity now. Any suggestions on where i can get cost effective harness + humbuckers solutions? I was looking at guitar fetish. Any other venders anyone can reccomend?
PerS
Just a longshot… your recording sounded like the Hofner was quieter, but in case that was just a technicality in the recording – If you have any block in your preset where you can change the “Headroom” (like e.g. Vintage Delay, Adriatic Delay, Transistor tape), turn it up and se if it make any difference. If it is set to low it can/will clip the signal. Well, at least worth trying before changing cables and mic’s :-) By the way, the preset you supplied is a “php”-file, not a preset, so I could not check it out. //Per
