I just want to play and listen to my guitar using the headphones outlet. My headphones (JBL E55BT, the cable seems to have 4 connectors: tip-ring-ring-sleeve) are plugged into an adapter 3.5mm jack female to 6.35mm jack male... see pic If I plug the adaptor all the way into the headphones out of the HX Stomp, I don't get any sound at all in the headphones... To get some sound, I have to retract the adaptor a few millimeters out from the headphones out... I guess my headphones are the issue Any hint ?! Thanks Vincent 162 B · 0 downloads Hi, Really there is nothing to understand about using headphones with your HX Stomp - simply connect some suitable headphones to the 1/4” stereo socket on the side of the Stomp and turn up the volume. The issue you have is that your “JBL E55BT” cans don’t immediately qualify as “suitable”. The big clue is in the name - BT = Bluetooth. The type of connection you describe is a detachable cable which has a one button universal remote and built in microphone. Quincy Jones may love these, but essentially they are for hooking up to your phone or iPad. There are many, many, more suitable headphones out in the world. Basically, you don’t need to spend a small fortune on a pair of quality cans designed for studio monitoring and mixing. Try to avoid “audiophile” stuff as they are made to make things sound “better”, whereas you need something that tell the truth about your sound. Lots of users on here use Beyer Dynamic DT770 Pro, Sennheiser HD 600 - also Sony, AKG are highly commended. Personally, Audio Technica ATH-M50x usually get my vote, and if you’re on a budget there are the Audio-Technica ATH-M40X. Tools to do the job - Helix’s headphone out is designed to drive even high impedance studio headphones. Hope this helps/makes sense. I would add that, while HPs that are designed to be FLAT may provide a more "accurate" reproduction of a modeler's sound, that is not necessarily the most PLEASING way to hear it. They're best for RECORDING for a host of reasons, and you probably don't want HPs designed for hearing rap music (excessively enhanced bass), but a set of general purpose semi-open backed HPs like the very affordable AKG K240 might be preferable for your stated purpose. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Thanks Vincent 162 B · 2 downloads I looked up the sales pitch blurb for those things...a "rich boosted bass response" is not what you want for crafting guitar tones, because they are specifically designed to accentuate the bass frequencies. You will find yourself pulling out a ton of low end in all your patches to compensate. Then when you try to use those patches through any other playback system without an artificial low end boost, it'll sound thin and anemic. Those headphones were designed for 15 year olds intent on punishing their eardrums with 120 dB of whatever sonic drivel currently passes for "music". They just don't connect well. You can use an adapter that will split the headphone and the mic signal into two connectors, this way you can use only the headphone connector. I use a pair of Beyer Dynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohm with my HX Stomp XL, but I'm not yet satisfied, my guitar tone sounds a bit weak and hollow.
