johnehlee
Anyone else getting this specific error? I updated my HX Edit to 3.70 and while updating my HX Effects to 3.70, there was a message on my computer saying there was an error. So I restarted my HX Effects and got a "Boot Failure res= -33" and "App Enter" error message. I tried resetting to factory settings holding down the TAP and Footswitch 6 buttons and am still getting the error. Tried plugged in and not plugged into my computer with USB. rd2rk
Might be helpful to include little details like what kind of computer/OS/updating from version#. Also, are you using a hub or direct to a known MB USB port? I don't have HXFX, but just updated both HXS and Helix Floor on separate computers with no problems.
johnehlee
I updated using Windows 10 PC, no USB hub. I updated from 3.60, so shouldn't be a problem. HX Edit was updated, then prompted me to update HX Effects. Then there was an error message in the HX Edit saying to reboot. After rebooting, I got the aforementioned error message and it has not changed even after factor reset.
rd2rk
My update configuration on both devices and computers was identical to yours (W10 fully updated). Guess we'll have to wait to see if anyone else with HXFX encounters this. In the meantime you should contact support.

johnehlee
Thanks guys... nothing is working because I'm still getting the error on my HX Effects. I can't get past the error screen and my computer is no longer reading the HX as a USB device.
SlumFiend
Im in the same boat as johnehlee. Im running on Mac OS Big Sur (incase thats relevant info), heard there was a new update and wanted to try the new effects so i plugged my HXFX into power then plugged it into my computer and turned the HXFX on, downloaded HX UPDATER and started the update process for the new update but within a minute i was met with and still cant get past the error (Boot Failure! res= -33). The computer no longer identifies my device and the factory reset is met soon with the same error code. no clue what to do but i'm glad i'm not the only one who's had trouble. Let’s try this - disconnect the USB from your computer and the HXFX for about a minute, the reconnect them. Power up the HXFX while holding down the Right Arrow Key >. This should put you into Fail Safe Update mode. Next make sure that HX Edit is not running as it will interfere with this rescue attempt. Now launch the Line 6 Updater Utility v.1.28 and if it can see your HXFX as a USB device, you can use this to re flash the latest firmware. Hope this helps/makes sense.
johnehlee
Thanks @datacommando that did the trick! I think I did have my HX Effects plugged into a USB hub... but since it was integrated into my PC case, I didn't make the connection that it wasn't near the motherboard. Anyway, cautionary tale to plug directly into the back of the computer! Thanks for everyone's help!

Hi, Good to know you got it up and running - some simple things are easily overlooked, and usually easily fixed. It’s understandable when you start to panic thinking you might have turned your toy into a paperweight. Have fun with the updated stuff.
