Changing/Upgrading MicroSD card on Helix Stadium

Hi all,

I had a question about swapping out the factory microSD card with a higher capacity card. I heard that I could potentially store presets on the card.

The process to change the card and to format the card seems pretty straight forward in the users manual, but I wanted to ask the following (these may seem silly, but feel better safe than sorry).

Will swapping out the microSD card remove or alter any installed user presets, IR's etc? I just want to know the repurcussions of swapping out the microSD card for a unit that I have spent a bit of time installing my presets I used on my Helix.

Appreciate your help.

I haven’t tested a higher capacity card but I don’t foresee any issues. Inserting and formatting a new card should not disturb anything already on the device - presets, IRs, etc.

However I strongly recommend that, as a precaution, you perform a Backup using your current card before swapping. With that you can always recover your pre-card-swap installation.

In fact I think using multiple SD cards is a good strategy for managing device content for multiple purposes, e.g. different bands and Setlists, or exceeding the 512 preset limitation. With the pending release of Showcase, and the new preset management scheme - namely that there is only one copy of each preset onboard, with setlists containing only aliases and Songs able to invoke presets and Snasphots - all the Song, Setlist, and Preset data on the device and the SD card at any time comprise a tightly integrated and potentially large dataset. Managing multiple cards with different datasets, using the Backup/Restore feature, will become common practice in the future I believe.

I've swiped mine for a 512. nothing to do rather removing the old one and insert a new one. What I understand the card is not used on this firmware and it will be usefor storing mp3 like backing track not preset

Thanks for the info. I have now tested using a 256 card and see no issues. The card is useful now for system backup/restore.

Does Stadium support SDXC standard or do you have to use a FAT32 format tool?

The manual only states it must be formatted using the Helix Stadium process using its maintenance screen.  You may want to call support for an exact answer.

I allready put files on the SD-card. How do I copy it to a new bigger card? Simply copy it to my Mac and paste on the new one?

By the way: what a great unit it is!!!

I would like to have an editor of the wav-files on the new HX Stadium Edit version. Would be nice!

And also; Line6; please put the TC Helicon Harmony Singer on it! Should be easy, since that's also fully digital! Make the microphone-input for use!

….

First, format the new, bigger card using the Stadium Maintenance utility. Then you can do one of two things depending on what files are already on the old smaller card:

- if the files on the old card are just backups, including Song audio files, there’s really no need for them to be transferred to the new card. Just create a new backup on the new card and proceed as usual. If you want to restore an older backup just use the older card.

- if you really need the older files on the new card you can transfer the files using your Mac. But what’s on there other than backups that remain available on the old card?

This says the microSD card needs to be type HC.  But that only goes up to 32GB.  Will SDXC work?  I assume so but wanted to check.

gavinashun, great question.  I believe the instruction state that 32Gb HC (UC 1 or higher speed class) is the minimum to use.  There are others members in this forum that have said they have read or heard the Stadium can use a 1TB microSD.  I know 512Gb is reported to work in this forum.  Here is stapani's comment ...

This was somewhere in Youtube comments :

"I can confirm that a 1TB SD card is recognized and can be mounted to the Helix Stadium"

Still waiting my Stadium XL, so not tested by me.

You will have to use the maintenance mode to format the microSD before use according to the manual.
