Who Has A Completely Working Jtv Guitar?
tscoolberth replied to spmartin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I 89. No issues, though I don't mess with alt tunings, just those found on the dial. -

Replacing Magnetic Pickups
tscoolberth replied to tscoolberth's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have the JTV 89. So, I'm looking for pups suited to hi-gain metal ... probably Seymour Duncan Black Winters when they come to the USA. http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/high-output/black_winter/ -
This may be answered elsewhere but does anyone have any experience with switching out the magnetic pickups on their JTV? Or, is the design so integrated that going with after-market pickups totally impractical?'

Using Variax Jtv-89 For Hi-gain
tscoolberth replied to Ivarsson's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Personally, I like the modeling for the hi-gain stuff. The magnetic James Tyler pickups .. better suited to clean and crunch in my opinion. -
Jtv 89 Hd Update And Palm Mute?
tscoolberth replied to Roxas's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I had a JTV 89 and play heavy metal and constantly palm mute with high gain. I have experienced no problems, though I have no experience with the old version. -
I can understand the body and neck decisions but the boring dots on the fret board are a bit of a disappointment. Oh well .. I'l just go after market for somethng more interesting.

Look What I Have Done To My Jtv-89f Black
tscoolberth replied to 1999's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Any tips on where to buy that custom inlay .. my only complaint about the my JTV is the hideous dots on the finger board. -
Five High-gain Models...?
tscoolberth replied to kurtiscollette's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yeah, as a newb, that's the one area where I am totally lost. Where are user's custom creations? Or LIne 6 developed creations? -
I like the nylon for the 89. There's some black metal bands that dip a little bit into that for a sorta classical feel. The dobro and banjo are useless to me. The PRS would be aesome. I had some some PRS stuff for variax but I don't know where the hell I found them or where they are now (I'm a variax newb so I'm still sorta lost)

The New Variax Upgrades Are Great!
tscoolberth replied to swing_girl's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yeah I was on firmware 1.8 or something . I just got my JTV 89 and wasn't even aware that an update was available ... then this came out .. wow, mind=blown! -
Drop D 1/2 Step Downtuning?
tscoolberth replied to dbagchee's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yep, I'm thinking of doing this, too. I use 1/2 step down as my standard and I'll bump up to medium strings. I know at a 25" scale in eflat with 11s I should be where I want to be. Not sure how I'll need to fiddle with the alt-tunings but ... I'm sure I can figure it out. I love my other guitars .. but this JTV 89 is stealing my heart. -
Version 2.0 Hd Update

Can't Connect Workbench To Jtv89
tscoolberth replied to davidicus's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Does the battery need to be near 100% charged for all this to work? The software says something about an xps power supply but I guess those are no longer sold. -tsc -
