I totally get what bobthedog and is cristofe is relaying. I'm not a fan of the current UI either. But I do think it's usable. But usable is not good enough in the long run. I dont necessarily want a UI that is cluttered with lookalike amps with nice little knobs and a load of stomps below. Not at all. I dont think that qualifies as being a modern UI. I expect the UI to improve as we move on. Resize issues should be fixed. Scrollbars should be removed when not necessary (responsive design thank you). Using the mouse scrollwheel when hovering above a parameter should cycle through the value list of the parameter. And much more. So the UI is not perfect but it's a start.

Good stuff. Very interesting to read even for a home studio hobbyguitarist that never plays live or anything remotely like that. I think you (maybe) will be pleasantly surprised by how many comments, questions and suggestions you will get from folks in this forum. Best of luck with your setup.

"most of the time I think this is some sort of negative confirmation bias" : agree...100%.

Helix Native and playing along to Spotify and Youtube
jabak replied to Edgewannabe's topic in Helix Native
I've no problems using both spotify and a taxing dual path Helix Native preset in reaper x64 at the same time. Windows 10 btw. My computer is an older Core i5 2500K (quad core) with 16GB RAM and a Scarlett Solo 2 gen with buffer settings adjusted for low latency (sample rate: 44.1 and buffer size: 16). I can even spin up multiple tracks all loaded with helix native, armed/monitor on and with different presets. I've not tested how many tracks before overloading the CPU but I guess at least 6-8 would be possible. -
Ditto. Rosen Digital for quick and very good results. Cabir.eu or OH mixes if you wan't more choices without spending days or weeks.

LOL. Like in the good old days when computers were expensive. There were these guys who always had the newest and most badass computer gear. They didn't have a clue. All they ever did was typing in the occasional birthday song for their little brother or a some grand cousin using word perfect. The guys who really knew about computers and actually did something useful with them were saving pennies for years to buy second hand gear.

My focusrite Solo arrived an hour ago. I took it for a run moments ago and wauuuu. Latency is no longer an issue. Gone. So in conclusion UX1 and Focusrite are not in the same ballpark when it comes to latency. My Pod UX1 is now officially retired. Thanks to all for sharing their knowledge.

I hope so. At least i'll get an interface that's not plagued by driver issues.
-
"Also some interfaces then lie about their extra latency by hiding it, this can cause problems for the DAW where it is getting buffer under-runs on input and over-runs on output.": that's bad... really bad if it's true. I have not done the loop test because it simply hadn't crossed my mind that you could measure latency that way :) I did use the DPC and LatencyMon tools for diagnostics but they didn't reveal anything out of the ordinary. When my new Scarlett interface arrives i'll do a head-to-head between the Scarlett and the UX1. Btw: In Reaper there's a checkbox "Use audio driver reported latency". Suddenly that checkbox makes perfect sense to me. Still leaning....

Agree. It's two different animals but both put a tremendous load on the CPU. Nevertheless I would expect that setting up your processor to prioritize foreground work (the active app) would benefit both types of applications.

Took the time to try out Helix Native on my other computer this time using my Helix hardware as interface. Latency was not noticeable. So a better computer (Core I7 gamer rig) and presumably a better interface have a huge effect on latency. Nevertheless I decided to get rid of my UX1 because of driver stability issues. Ordered a Scarlett Solo 2gen. I'll measure latency when i receive the scarlett.

Btw. If you want larger icons select the amp (or preamp or cab or effect) in your patch and then press the button thats made out of 3x3 small squares under "Edit". That will hide the block type selector and make the icons bigger.

Anyone care to measure their latency : http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml and http://www.resplendence.com/downloads (LatencyMon) Posting your setup, DI and DAW and computer specs, would be helpful as well

I agree. Install and setup was a no brainer. Performance is good. Also I like the "new" look of the editor with all the nice icons. It really makes a difference to me.

You are absolutely right. Besides helix/guitars i'm into flight simulators as well. Modern flight sims are way more taxing than any audio application i've bumbed into. So usually I setup all my computers with flight sims in mind. Apparently there's a discrepancy between how sweetwater thinks processor scheduling should be configured versus how the flight sim community thinks it should be configured. I'll run a few tests but imho it should be set to foreground apps and not background apps (like windows services). But i'll certainly give it a shot. Another thing. If I decide to skip my ux1 and replace it with something better what would you guys recommend? Presonus Audiobox? Focusrite Scarlett solo/2i2? I'm surprised that the presonus is USB 1.1.

Ahhhhh the usual suspects when running windows like power management profile, antivirus profile, bloatware, windows services (startup automatic) etc. That's already been taken care of but thanks anyway.
-
You maybe right. I'll have to do some testing tonight. Will try that tonight also.

Yup latency is an issue for me too. Most noticable with clean tones. Please join in: http://line6.com/support/topic/28208-zero-latency-with-helix-native/

It seems like we have simliar setups. The latency is noticable when using clean tones only. I've already played around with the buffer settings. All settings are at the lowest possible setting for lowest latency. "also optimize your OS for audio production." : any tips for that?

Just fired up Helix Native and noticed some degree of audible latency. Using a POD Studio UX1 as interface and reaper as the DAW. Also i've configure the line6 asio ux1 drivers to get the lowest possible latency. My computer is a Core I5 Quad core, 16MB RAM and a couple of SSDs Anything i can do to improve latency? A new and better DI interface? ASIO4All drivers?

Suddenly the discounted version became available to me.....
