  1. Well, at least it's new so you don't have to go through the hassle of warranty or other repair. I know stuff like this leaves a bad taste, but if you're looking for a device comparable in price that has the flexibility the pod has, nothing else comes close. Other devices in this class may sound similar, or maybe even better in some cases, but lack many of features the pod has. To name a couple bigger ones, dual paths and movable FX blocks. There is a new device called Amplifire (not Line 6's Amplifi), that looks and sounds interesting. A little more expensive than the pod. It'll probably be out sometime this year if I had to guess.
  2. Sounds like a possibly corrupt patch. Happened to mine before. One last thing you could try: Unplug everything from the unit, then with the unit turned off, hold down the left arrow while turning on the unit. I've read of some people having luck doing this (unplugging everything first) with the flashing line 6 logo problem. There could also be some other key presses or combinations to try while turning the unit on, however the only other one that's documented is holding the right arrow while turning on. If there are others, it's possible they could bring some sign of life to the device, but the function of an unknown keypress would be, well, unknown. If that doesn't work, the device would most likely need some sort of servicing.
  3. What's the tuner loud sound problem?

You're right. Normal is hard to define in the context of human behavior. I guess I would say the broadest definition of normal would be what society as a whole deems normal behavior. Even that can be different though for different countries because of differing cultures. What a society in a country in Africa might say is normal would most definitely be considered abnormal or strange in America and vice versa. It's all relative. But then zoom the scale to an individual basis and things become very muddy. An individual may think, or tend to think, that there version of normal is, or should be, the standard, and that if everyone behaved and held the same beliefs, everything would be OK. I'm not saying everyone out there has this view but there must be some, and I'm would bet money that you've at least crossed paths with this type of person. Suddenly you have more than one individual holding this same idea in there heads and there's a conflict because two individuals can't possibly hold the exact same beliefs about nearly everything. Add in another person, and another... I recently heard that applying electricity through specific parts of the head and for a specific amount of time will make said person a temporary super-genius who would essentially be able to diagnose himself for said nerve issue.
  5. Try doing a global reset by holding the left arrow while powering on. Make sure to put back however you had all the system menu settings after that. You might also then have to recalibrate the pedal by holding the right arrow while powering on.
  6. Not sure what that's from, but it sounds familiar somehow ... don't wait too long to tell us. Here's a patch for the hd500x that one of my songs use that's along similar lines: PBack-10.zip

Another one I was probably gonna try is Dean Markley Helix. I've read good things about them. They're stainless steel and with much tighter windings than normal, so probably a smoother feel, elliptically wound, and the core is exposed at the bridge for better sustain and vibration transfer. They are supposed to be quite bright and really good lows and low-mids.

I've known some musicians in the past, some guitarists, some drummers, singers, keyboard players, etc. All of them had something that seemed a little off ... at least to a normal person. As for me, I've always been a lot off. And please insert your own definition for the word "off". Unfortunately for me, my style of playing - the lead parts anyway - doesn't allow my other fingers to take up the slack. They're all busy >80% of the time. One of my bass strings broke recently. They were the coated elixir kind. Pretty smooth to play. Replaced them with some d'addario pro steels. Much rougher on the fingertips, but they sound better to me, brighter. More piano-like. Those thimbles could be interesting. Maybe you could produce some really weird, new type of slide guitar technique. And put them on both hands and go nuts with the tapping in combination with sliding. Hmmm. I used to suffer from some really bad neck/shoulder/arm pain. Was so bad sometimes, I couldn't even think about picking up a guitar. Never went to a doctor about it. But what eventually worked for me was a daily, persistent use of weight lifting. Nothing much, about 20 minutes each day. And nothing really heavy either. I've actually never felt physically better since I started doing this a couple years ago. Another thing is to try and catch yourself while engaging in unconscious bad habits that can result in terrible pain.
  9. You really have to push down on the pedal when it's new. And if you try and use your hand for this, unless you're super strong you'll have to use your entire body weight.

LOL! Some of the contortions guitar players have to go through... Talking about physical conditions and knowing when to quit; I currently have one of my fingertips sliced open from a guitar string and I just can't make myself quit playing for a few days, so I end up each day making the slice worse than it was the day before. Of course the cold, dry weather in Milwaukee doesn't help but this has been going on for a couple of weeks now. Isn't this a definition of some kind of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over, hoping for something to change?

Don't forget about a person's current mood. If you like to tweak a lot, one day you'll like something and some other day you'll wonder what the hell you were thinking. And then even another day you'll go back to the first sound and suddenly remember what you were thinking, until you discover yet again something is wrong. That might be the time to set things aside for at least a couple of days.
  12. I completely agree with the greater tone possibilities of the x versions over the non x (i have both a 500 and 500x). There are things you can do with 500x that just aren't possible with the 500, mostly dual amps/cabs. But, if you take a patch built on a 500 and loaded it on an pro x, both should sound identical. But they might not because one device is more expensive than the other and can color the purchaser's opinion. Then again, it's all subjective in the first place anyway. The non-pro version can also act as a midi controller, can't it? It does take up more floor space though, especially two of them. Always good to have more choice. Makes more people happy.
  13. If you've seen the program brain games, the last episode had two cakes, a $15 one and a $55 one. Random people on the street tried samples of each and all said the more expensive one tasted better. But the thing is, both cakes were identical. The pro with separate controller would be nice, and better for me too, but I just can't see it as being ($200 + controller) better.
  14. Flux Capacitor! Sony mdr-7506 headphones, but it digitally goes into my computer's sound card first.
  15. I think I get it. So the switches you're using via midi to control MainStage and S-Gear aren't assigned to anything from the pod internally. Strictly for midi control? If that's the case, then maybe assign a neutral effect that doesn't do anything, except when engaging the switch it will toggle the light and effect. For example, a volume pedal with the volume set to 100. Then assign that volume pedal to the same switch you have the midi output assigned to. It should control what you want in MainStage and S-Gear and at the same time toggle the volume pedal, thus toggling the light for that switch. This way you wouldn't need any midi input to the pod.
  16. Ahh. Thought you were using the pod for just midi stuff. But however you have a patch setup in the pod, you could still toggle the FX blocks from MainStage (if it's capable), and as long as you have some sort of interface you can hook to the midi in on the pod that can receive data from your computer. Not sure if the Apogee GiO falls in that category. One that does is a USB to MIDI device.
  17. I think some of what you suggest will be taken care of with the new global EQ, and even more so if the new EQ Block can saved on preset basis (IdeaScale). But the idea about two cab blocks with one amp is good, and even multiple mics per cab. I like those. They should allow for positioning of the mics too maybe.
  18. I'm not familiar at all with MainStage or the Apogee GiO, but if MainStage is capable of sending a MIDI CC message to the input of the hd500x, you could set up a dummy patch with each FX block populated with a dummy effect, for example a noise gate. Of course, keep all your current MIDI settings you already have in the patch to control MainStage. Then assign each noise gate to one of the switches. When you do something with the pod to control MainStage, MainStage must know when this happens. At the occurrence of this event, just have MainStage send the appropriate MIDI message back to the POD to toggle the appropriate FX. If I'm misunderstanding the situation, please disregard all of the above.
  19. I tried this yesterday on a higher gain tone using the Angel F-Ball, and to my ears, it sounds like it does not. But, I'm probably quite wrong.
  20. Don't be surprised if it returns at some point. :(
  21. Interesting. When my device did this, I had the following plugged in: usb, midi-in, digital-out, 1/4" out (both left and right), and guitar in. After tightening the pedal slightly, I got it to calibrate from 0 to 255. Still the same cables plugged in. So while I suppose it's possible it could be something with one or more of the cables, it seems unlikely.
  22. Tone wise, you would be able to do do more because of more DSP. Otherwise, they are pretty much identical. I think the HD Pro X might have some other output option/s, for one example digital input. And it has a power switch.
  23. Great playing and great tones. Thanks for sharing.
  24. Always good to hear a story of surprise and satisfaction. Glad for you. The only piece of digital modeling gear I've even owned, or even tried besides some vst modelers, is the pod hd. I've had it for several years and overall I'm glad I went with it, rather than digitech or boss. You can pretty much create anything you might want and have it sound good at the same time. Very versatile and flexible - way more than other devices in its class. I use mine for bass too and am really exited about the new bass amps and cabs. Can't wait.
  25. Keep trying. My 500x did the same thing for a while. Eventually it will work. A couple of things, clean out any dust around and underneath the pedal. I believe the pedal operates from optical sensors, so dust could affect this. Try and tighten the pedal with the allen wrench ever so slightly, or more if you like it with a little more tension. I find over time I have to tighten and then recalibrate because the pedal becomes looser/floppier. But it should be tight enough so that when it's in the heel position, it shouldn't start to fall back on itself because of its own weight.
