  1. I always use top lures, like hula poppers and other crank bait. Got a couple of 17 inchers out of my pond that way. Worms? Damn pan fish eat those off the dang hooks lol....
  2. Ah the memories lol. That and setting timing plus points dwell and gap. I remember having to get out at times and twist the old distributor just to get home lol.
  3. Ok, I walked into that lol Actually, I code for a living myself and it was sort of an inside joke lol...the bit bucket and all that.
  4. I've been watching: "House of Cards" (A+) "Outlander" (A+) "Black Sails" (A+) And when I'm in the mood for a laugh, I watch "Burn Notice" which just cracks me up. before that I binge watched "Weeds" which also cracked me up, but I got paranoid people would think I smoked it since I have a security clearance lol...
  5. Now optimizing DSP code isn't like when you rebuild a carburator and have spare parts, right?
  6. I may be the only man in America to never have seen this show lol...
  7. Well, my keyboard is USB connected so the MIDI gets in that way, but to hear it I either have to wear headphones connected to it, or connect the SPDIF out into my soundcard and arm a record track to hear it through my monitors. As far as recording both guitar and keyboard at once -- I don't have enough hands to play them simultaneously lol. The HD Pro is still in play. Most of my weak-lollipop keyboarding is done with soft-synths anyway, but the Yamaha MO8 has some nice sounds of it's own I'd like to be able to tap into. I will just keep the SPDIF connected if I want to record those sounds. I just want to make sure I cover all the bases I actually want covered because this setup will be it for me, unless something breaks down. I want simple, fairly versatile and dedicated to recording. And any cool patches I make will be transplantable to my (shelved) HD500 should I want to go out and play in public again.
  8. Thanks SIlverhead -- as always. Well regarding the MIDI implementation -- that's kind of lollipop lol... This implementation choice may be pushing me towards a different solution for my studio world. I have tons of gear but it looks like a rat's nest and since we are house selling at present, the Missus has kindly requested a cleanup (or else lol) and I really can't blame her. Funny thing is, I really don't use the POD HD500 I have very much at all for recording. I mostly use it for noodling, practicing and fun. What I DO use more often than not to record with is the POD Farm (and all the model packs) I have because they work everywhere -- even in Reason which is my primary DAW. Thanks again -- the research continues...
  9. Before I press "Buy Now" on this unit, and I have more questions: 1. Does the MIDI on the back panel act as a true MIDI interface? In other words, can I hook up a MIDI controller to it and have it be visible inside say Proepllerheads Reason or SONAR? 2. Sort of coninuting this train of thought, I plan to buy the MKII Shortboard to control it aand I believe this would connect via a dedicated Cat 5 cable...does this indicate an entire other bus or is this simply a bastardized MIDI connection via Cat 5 rendering the MIDI connectors as "used" already? Sorry if this is a complicated question... 3. Regarding this MKII Shortboard -- does it work "out of the box" or will I be programming it extensively to work with each (and every) patch I ever build? 4. Can the Line inputs on the back be used for hooking up a Yamaha (or whatever brand) synth output and thereby hear it through my monitors and/or record that input the same as if I was connecting a guitar? Thanks in advance for any answers. My overaall goal here is to use this unit as my one and ONLY connection to my DAW, and I want to be able to play, practice and record using: 1. Variax guitar (dedicated Variax connection) 2. Regular wood and wire guitars (dedicated guitar input on the front) 3. Synth Keyboard output (Using Line Connectors on the rear) Should this all be feasible, I will also get a Rokit S10 subwoofer to enhance the low frequencies with my Rokit 5 monitors to replace everything else (and a metric ton of wiring) in the offing. Please feel free to shoot holes in this plan as I'd rather fail on paper and keep searching a proper solution as to buy (and regret) if there is something I THINK will wirk that actually will not work.
  10. See this thread for how things worked out with this.
  11. Man, I know this has strayed MASSIVELY off topic, but it is one hell of an interesting discussion all the same. Thanks for that. If the mods move it, I'd like to continue it. Such deep and soul searching discussions are good for all so long as we all realize how unique each of our own perspectives really is -- and in so doing avoid taking an alternative view brought by others personally. If only the Internet at large practiced this way of thinking, flame wars would disappear. In any event, I'd never heard of David Suzuki before, but I really like the guy. I am listening to a lecture he is giving for UWA in Perth just now and he makes some powerful points. And as a self-styled elder, he brings a once valued input to bear in a time when we actually listened to the people on the earth who had the most experience as oppossed to shoving them into a home somewhere to be shut of them. This is not a Pollyannish view really. At the root of it is our exploding technology I believe which of course tends to elude our eldest citizens, aand the "old ways" are being left further behind every day. Ironically, people love the movie plot of a Doomsday scenario, but I wonder how many would actually survive something such as the grid just shutting down? Most I have heard always submit their handiness with (and willingness to use) firearms, but in the long run it will be people who know how to do the old things such as planting, clothing making and other such seemingly mundane things still who fare best I believe.
  12. Thanks Phil -- it's as I suspected. By the way, anyone running their keyboard rig through the POD by chance?
  13. Friends, I am NOT panicking nor is this wild conjecture. Math is what it is and exponential doubling is a fact of life. When I was born, there were @ 2.9B people on planet Earth and today (56 years later) there are over 7 billion. See this Wiki entry for the figures. I went to China some 28 years ago and it was packed then...can't imagine what it is now nor the Indian sub-continent for that matter. It's really not a matter of IF, it's more of a matter of WHEN we will run out of resources to sustain our way of life. I don't know when that will be and neither does anyone else. All we can do is the math and the math don't lie -- if things remain on course, sooner or later the population doubles.
  14. I'm guessing Silverlight might answer here, but it's an open question. When I have connected my monitoring system (be it my Power Engine 60s or my Rokit 5 studion monitors) via my POD HD500 blanaced outout, I have noted a SIGNIFICANT drop in volume and I see no way to switch between the -10db it seems to be and the +4 I'd like it to be. So, if I replace this with a POD HD ProX as I am strongly considering, will this be the same case or is the newer and rack mountable POD HD ProX offer the switchability I seek?
  15. One thing I've learned in my 56 years is this; time is ALWAYS shorter than you think. Now there are very few reasons why I am glad to be the age I am, but knowing I won't be around to see how thing turn out given the way the world is progressing is one of them. My wife and I did our part -- we have 1 son to replace the two of us for a 50% reduction. We also were licenced foster parents to many kids over the years we were in the Air Force in California, Ohio, New York and Alabama so our conscience is clear as to doing for others along the way. If I say anything more, things will escalate very quickly so I won't.
  16. Wow. I already suspected this intuitively, but the numbers don't lie. The only variable (and it is significant) is US (humans) and since people are predominantly selfish and short sighted - I'd like to say that I enjoyed knowing you all now while there's time.
  17. Classic 60's Rock -- wow, that's wide open but I'd go with the Rckenbacker guitar and Vox CA series amps Classic 70's Rock -- For me, Les Paul/Marshall Plexi or Strat/Fender with Fuzz amp 80's Hair Band -- Marshall 800 and a pointy guitar with one knob Shred -- Probably the Mesa, Engl or Ubershall amp sims and a pointy guitar with 2 knobs and battery assist pickups Acousitc Delta Blues -- Resonator and a dimed tweed amp Chicago Blues -- Buddy Guy likes Strats and a Bassman but Muddy Waters liked a Tele and I would say the Gibson amp Rockabilly Gretsch and a Fender amp with slapback echo Old School Country Tele and a fender Twin or Deluxe The templates I am making are more along the lines of classic combinations of guitars and amps. For example, I have: -- Strat into a Marshal Plexi -- Les Paul into a Marshall Plexi -- Strat into Hiwatt (Gilmour type sounds) -- Rickenbacker into a Vox AC (Tom Petty/Roger McGuin etc.. jangle tone) -- Gretsch into a Fender twin -- Tele Into a Fender Twin -- Tele into Fender Deluxe -- Strat into Bassman etc...you get the idea. But doing what you're doing is a great place to start too...thing is if you think about it, different musical groups can use vastly different gear and still be the same style which is why I went the way I did. If I was going to play a Pearl Jam song for example, I'd need to decide first whether I wanted Mike McCreedy's Strat.Marshall sound or STone Gossard's Les Paul Marshall-esque type sound right? Same band, same style different sounds.
  18. That's the ticket laddy...I'd rather wait an extra week and not be pissed off that it bricked my POD lol...
  19. Well, that is another story altogether lol...
  20. Define "shortly thereafter" please. To a mountain, an epoch is a short time after all...lol
