  1. This: http://www.cyberglovesystems.com/products/virtual-hand-sdk/overview Only in reverse...
  2. Well, I don't lay awake nights worrying over any of this either. I did say it was "a niggling (petty) concern" and it was tongue in cheek after all.
  3. For those of us who do play a traditional instrument, that's what music is in the general sense. But for the untold millions who simply enjoy listening to (and tapping their foot, playing air guitar or air drums) I see music as a release more than an expression of one's individuality. This little gizmo may get those people to take that next step and learn to express what they feel in musical ways. Or not.
  4. Well, the girl in the Fiesta Red sweater was kinda cute. Actually, that is a pretty cool device in my view. I love that anyone with desire can make music for themselves in a way that inspires them. That kind of thinking is actually visionary.
  5. I wish I could say that I saw that coming....well played.
  6. When do you think Line6 will start modeling world renowned fingers and 3D printing them on a production line near you? Wouldn't that be great? I'd buy Jeff Beck's finger models in a half a heartbeat!
  7. Oh, I agree. I have gear that I've owned and used longer than many of the people in the place have been on the earth. I was mostly kidding, but in the spirit of this conversation, say you bought an HD Pro X and the day after you could return it, Line 6 comes out with a newer model that doubles the DSP and offers many other new features at the exact same price -- you're not gonna be just a little peeved by that? Really? I mean, life goes on and all that but still it would steam my clams a little bit just for the crappy timing lol...
  8. EVERY year is a year for guitarists!
  9. Thank you for the reply and the wisdom, as always. This makes sense to me and I will be checking out your presets later on at home with my HD500. My last niggling concern is a vague suspicion that immediately after I get this thing to replace my HD500, Line6 will materialize "the next big thing" and make it obsolete...the perils of a digital world :)
  10. If I may ask, how does your HD Pro work as recording interface? Obviously, the guitar tones are great but is the faux vocal strip functionality that Line6 references pretty fairly clean for solid vocal recording, for example? My recording needs are very modest (I think) as I only record guitar and some of my own vocals. There may be times when I'd want to bypass all the guitar stuff in the POD and record dry using insert effects in my DAW. Any other stuff I use is in Reason 7, basically synths and studio effects like pitch correction, leveling, de-essing and so forth. So I figure if your situation is similar and you don't find any obvious flaws, it is likely a good bet for me.
  11. You make some fair points here. Not sure who you are pissing into the wind at, but good luck with that. What you say is true; the 500x will receive exactly one free upgrade that being global EQ. Any new amp models will be paid for via model packs. The original HD500 was gifted what, 8 models from the original 22 to 30? But what others say is also true and Line6 doesn't really owe us anything post sale do they? I mean, if you bought a new car would anyone expect the dealership to throw in a sun roof 6 months later gratis? I'd say the best thing to do is either enjoy what you have or sell it and be done with Line6 altogether.
  12. Well heck, that's good to know. I will be hanging on to my M-Audio 4x4 MIDI interface I guess then.
  13. The HD Pro has MIDI, I believe plus I do have a MIDI 4x4 kicking arounf here somewhere...
  14. I would keep the HD500 and use it with the Tech21 Power Engine(s) I plan to shelve as well (if I do this) for live use if/when I ever do that. Might be some open mic nights and such I guess... My goal here is to simplify and declutter my recording studio. Right now it's jammed full with 2 Tech21 Power Engines, the HD 500 on the floor, the Fast Track Pro is only used as I stated up front. Heck, I'd use my HD500 this way if it had phantom power, but because I really love my Rode condenser I don't wish to get a dynamic mic so I hang onto the Fast Track. My studio monitors are preferable to the PE60s sound wise, but I cannot plug two separate inputs into my monitors. SHeeshh...it's always something lol... So anyway, I am thinking an HD Pro X replaces the HD500, the Fast Track and both Power Engines -- because I can simply rout the HD Pro X output into my studio monitors and record vocals via the HD Pro X.
  15. Anyone using this as their ONLY DAW input sound device? Are you satisfied with it? As I sit here thinking about this, I only use my USB Sound Card (A M-Audio Fast Track Pro) for vocals (I only use condenser mics needing 48v) and bass input, and occasionally for the Variax via 1/4 inch. I also have an HD500 for the Variax and so forth. I am thinking that I can combine both of those devices usefullness into one HD Pro X. Am I missing something?
  16. So, anyone know if the rest of the EQs will be in a useful unit of measure (finally) with this firmware update? It'd be great if they included a talent parameter too, measured in stars of course.
  17. Glad you're happy. This is exactly how I feel except I am not going to let myself be seduced by the new Standards unless they get stellar press and reviews from pros and the unwashed alike. Only then will I even let myself think about it....
  18. You should try hitting "the button" and deleting an entire personnel table in a database. Talk about your basic "come to Jesus" moment! I was in the Air Force at the time and I seriously thought I was going to lose my water lol... Did that years ago when I was starting out and as a consequence I learned how to restore SQL databases properly -- a skill they now pay me well to know!
  19. yeah, good advice for sure lolo...still, old houses (or crappy wired bar rooms) or even new ones where someone installed things incorrectly and BAM! your guitar or POD (or anything digital) is brain dead.
  20. I respectfully disagree...one good voltage spike from lightning strike, or even a strong static discharge and your digital gear could be fried.
  21. So as I understand things, this upcoming flash memory release will provide support for model packs and also provide a global EQ capability...is that right/all?
  22. So, I have the POD HD500 and did not re-ante for the 500x...does anyone know if the new frimware will be available for my POD as well?
  23. Backing up is a great feeling right up until you realize that you didn't.....;)
  24. Thanks for the insights folks. That FLy Rig 5 has had my attention for a while now and I need to get one I think. I once had a Tech 21 Tri-AC that I stupidly sold off and they don't make that anymore. The Fly Rig 5 looks like a natural extansion of that idea with Reverb and Delay to boot! Out to play real well through one of my Power Engines too.
