Nice! It should be a SendL if you use a TRS to XLR cable/adapter with the Send. Doing that you get a mono mix of L and R, you basically get an impedance balanced out (like using Out L only). If you want to send stereo and use a stereo split cable/adapter (or a TRS cable to feed a mixer's stereo in) then SendL/R is the right thing. Be aware that if you use a SendL/R block with a TS cable you hear only the left channel. Be aware that if you use a SendL/R block with a TRS cable you don't hear anything going in a mixer's balanced mono input. SendL is less error prone.

From what I've gathered a reset fixes this. My hunch is that it's related to a corrupt preset. If you can remember which preset you saved last before this issue started to happen and delete it - that *might* fix the issue. It would be nice if you report back if that helped (so that other people benefit from your experience).

AUX (monitor mix) + MAIN L/R (bass) to Phones but AUX not to MAIN L/R (only bass to FOH) is what I'm advocating for. Basically this means you can use monitor mix on phones with straight forward "no fx loop nonsense" patches.
-
I mean it's not a big deal and it works. A Global Settings option to route AUX only to headphones would make things significantly easier though.

Sorry, I mixed up this conversation with another one. Maybe there is a switch that engages the amp when you plug in a cable into the input to prevent noise?
-
The ground is probably disconnected on your Return1 jack. When you plug in the second cable you provide a connection between Helix' and the amp's ground via that path. Edit: Ignore this, I mixed up this conversation with another one.

activate Snapshot Mode press upper knob press Action button press left knob "Rename Snapshot" give it a name press right knob "OK" You now see the name of the snapshot instead of the camera symbol.

I second the "try the amp models instead" advice. But if you want to try the preamps go to the output block and crank the level to +20dB. Here is a link where the preamps are explained.

Test this: Put a patch cable from Send1 to Return2 and test FX Send1 block -> FX Return2 block for signal Put a patch cable from Send2 to Return1 and test FX Send2 block -> FX Return1 block for signal You should then know whether FX Send1 or FX Return1 is not working. With that knowlegde open a support ticket.

Do this comparison: patch with Gtr Pad Off same patch with Gtr Pad On and a +7dB gain block first in the path

Headphones Out and Mains Out are coupled: what you hear through headphones you'll also hear through Mains. So you'd need to use the Send Out to feed FOH. Insert a Send L block last in the chain. Or alternatively - to save a block - see and follw the manual's routing tips "Setting Path B's Output' and use Stereo as Type and Pan L100 in the Output Send L/R block (this way you effectively have a balanced out like with Send L). Set Global Settings->Ins/Outs->Return Type to Aux In. This will directly mix the return signal to Mains/Headphones without the need of an FX Loop block.
-
The 4-Cable-Method (4CM - see manual) allows you to do that: bypass the FX Loop block bypasses the preamp.

HX Stomp + Hotone Ampero Press 2 - not working right

The 'glitch' is caused by the wiring of the expression pedal: a TS plug connects/shorts the ring contact which provides the inverted signal. The easy way around is to plug 90% into the expression pedal's jack so that the tip of the plug connects to the ring of the jack. For this you might need to invert the inverted signal by changing the Global Settings->Preferences->Tip Polarity. Or you can open the expression pedal and remove the ring contact (bending it) or clipping the cable leading to it. -
TS cable is sufficient. Set Global Settings -> Preferences -> EXP/FS Tip to FS4 Global Settings -> Preferences -> EXP/FS Ring to EXP2 (to make sure FS5 doesn't get triggered by the TS plug) Global Settings -> Preferences -> Tip Polarity to Normal Global Settings -> Footswitches ->FS4 Function to TAP/Tempo

Nice setup! The VOLUME knob doesn't affect the Sends so you can't use it as a master volume for this unfortunately. You could use an expression pedal as a master volume by making it control both signal's (wet+dry) output level. Or just use the power amp controls. Read the manual page 19-21 to get inspiration for your signal routing. I'd probably go with guitar into Path 1, Path 1 into Path 2, split Path 2 somewhere, Path 2A to 1/4", Path 2B to Send1/2.

Have you considered 1/4" y-cables (female -> 2x male) and just use the 1/4" Outs?
-
@chipdougal I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I did a small experiment and had exactly the same noise issues that you described. The XLR outs don't seem work for this. What works (at least in my experiment) is adding a transformer based isolating device (eg Behringer HD400, Pyle PHE300) between XLR outs and the power amp. Alternatively you can use the Sends instead of the XLR outs.

Is the noise 60Hz / low frequency hum? Are the cables XLR -> TRS or XLR -> TS? Does the other power amp make the same noise when it is connected via XLR? Do you power both power amps from the same wall outlet?

HX Edit unable to import IR Error -2 out of memory condition.
Schmalle replied to apurplemunky's topic in Helix
@brAzzi64 Ok. This was interesting: What happened there is that Ola's original file has leading silence of 27ms (almost silence - just very low noise). An 1024 samples IR at 48kHz is about 21ms long. So you imported the file and listened to the silent part using a 1024 sample IR block. But why did it work after ffmpeg re-encoding? -Because ffmpeg makes almost silent parts completely silent (for better compression rates). That complete silence was now recognized and removed by HX Edit during the import. -

Can you do ffprobe input.wav with the file that didn't convert correctly and copy paste the last line of it's output here? e.g.: Stream #0:0: Audio: pcm_s24le ([1][0][0][0] / 0x0001), 96000 Hz, 1 channels, s32 (24 bit), 2304 kb/s -
Sure, but don't loose track of the fact that you're dealing with a 5w guitar amp vs a 170w power amp. Maybe you just turned the output block level way down on your patches because the PS 170 is LOUD.
-
Now we know that it's not defective. The volume drop in DSP bypass mode can have multiple causes: input block -> In-Z not 1MOhm or Auto input block -> Gtr Pad not Off output block -> Level not 0dB Global EQ VOLUME knob not full

Settings -> I/O Config to Insert Cabling: L IN from guitar R IN from dirt pedal out L OUT to amp R OUT to dirt pedal in That should be all.
