  1. You sound like the perfect candidate for a Helix. All the amps in the Catalyst are now in the Helix too, with none of the limitations you have mentioned. If you love the sound of the Catalyst you can always run your Helix through an amp and cab- after 8 years I have finally found my Helix Dream Sound by running without cab block into my tube power amp and cab (for monitor) and with cab block (and a few voodoo tricks) to FOH. I would personally not advise using a Catalyst AND a Helix because you already have everything and more inside the Helix. (you could always just use the FX Return on the Catalyst and that makes it your power amp). Yes, the Helix is way more expensive but after an 18 month detour into the Kemperverse (loved the sound, hated the UI and limitations) I bought my way back into a Floor AND a Rack - for a total cost of €2000 (used). Good luck!
  2. I have the XPS A/B on my pedalboard, along with the boat anchor power supply (see photo). I would love to get rid of that power supply if there is some other way to power the switch from eg a Cioks 7 power supply that I can use for the rest of my pedals. Is there a solution that does not require that boat anchor? IMG_3628.HEIC
  3. Hi from Germany. I have a Helix for 3 years now (cannot imagine life without it) and just decided to take the plunge into the wild world of MIDI. The reason being that I wanted to use an amp with multiple channels and be able to control from the Helix. I have ordered an Engl E570 preamp with MIDI capability and I have been reading the manuals of both devices. The E570 should arrive tomorrow! However I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling that I will quickly be able to figure it out. I watched a video on doing MIDI control between a Blug Amp1 and the Helix, it looked very straightforward. Not sure it will be so simple with the E570. Anybody out there using MIDI between Helix and an Engl E570??? Any tips or tricks you could share with me would be much appreciated. A link to a video would be worth a million words :-) Thanks!
  4. I like the 2 channels on my Peavey Classic 20 MH. It also has a handy Boost function. The amp comes with a 2-button footswitch to change channels and also turn boost on/off. Would be so nice to use the Helix to control these functions and leave that Peavey footswitch at home. Is this possible?
  5. I am considering buying a used JTV69s as a backup to my JTV69. I cannot find a 69 here in Germany at this time (used). Are the 2 single coils on the 69 the same as the neck and middle pickups on the 69?
  6. I just upgraded from 500X to a Helix! But if the acoustic sound is no better, maybe I will downgrade again :-)
  7. please tell me exactly how you get good acoustic sound from a Variax/Helix/L2T rig, especially using virtual capo. this is THE main reason I went down this path but so far the acoustic sound is really not up to snuff esp with a virtual capo on a 12 string model thanks
  8. I just visited their web site- they have one now.
  9. One more Q- you got 21 frets but it looks like the one I am looking at (and the stock JTV neck) has 22. Does it matter?
  10. OK hopefully one last question... yours has 21 frets but the one I am looking at has 22. Is this OK?
  11. OK now more questions ;-) I like Medium Jumbo frets. I thought those were 6105. But I see you both got 6150. ? I want to use the stock tuners from the JTV, since I kind of doubt there is an aftermarket for JTV69 necks with tuners attached :-) So I am still not completely clear what tuner ream I should order, but if I give it to my luthier I guess he can make it work as long as the holes are not too BIG. What decal?
  12. So is it safe to say the Planet Waves? And any other specs or widths or whatever I need to know? And... in my case they would be very right about that attitude, except I am definitely taking it to a luthier to get it done right. I already screwed up that job on (fortunately only) a Squier Bullet Strat when I put in locking tuners. Took a loooong time after that, before the guitar would actually stay in tune. :-) Thanks for the info as usual!
  13. Hi all I have seen that people have mounted original Fender Strat necks on their JTV69's. I also see that others use Warmoth necks. I think I will go the Warmoth route. I read that a "CBS Strat with standard thin" neck style would work, but I do not know what the tuner ream needs to be if I want to keep the JTV locking tuners, which I quite like. And is there anything else I need to know? I live in Germany so I need to get this right the first time. And just FYI I am going for a maple fretboard which is always my weapon of choice. Thanks for any advice.
  14. Just to give you all an update... I used the Dream Rig for a gig with Acoustic 1 and the volume was never very loud, so the fan rattle did not appear. But I sent it back just to be on the safe side! And... I just sent back my HD500X (within the 30 day no questions asked window) and bought a 3-month old Helix :-)
  15. and what tuner ream is needed to keep the locking tuners on the JTV? Thanks!
  16. part or model number of that neck please... :-) for my JTV69!
  17. The L2T is only 5 days old so I can just send it back for replacement. Thanks for the advice!
  18. I found the L6 acoustic patches already there, so I checked them out. They seem to work much better (with multiple EQ blocks and no acoustic amp block, either) and they also use Acoustic 1 which (at least on my guitar) does not have the buzz problem. So I am now good to go :-)
  19. I am still struggling to get a really good acoustic sound from my JTV. For strumming it is usually "OK" but when I finger pick there is some strangeness happening- and it is not on electric models. For example when I play the 4th fret of the 4th string (that would be an F# I believe) using the acoustic 5 model (switch all the way in neck position) I get a totally unacceptable hum or buzz. It is not fret buzz or at least it is not audible with other models. Definitely a vibe killer! I am now playing through an HD500x and an L2T by the way. A big reason for going this whole L6 route vs my tube amp and regular guitar is the ability to switch between acoustic and electric on the fly. So I reallllly need to solve this problem. Could it be something wrong with my guitar itself? Thanks folks!
  20. For my personal monitor I bought a Behringer 150 watt 5" monitor that mounts right onto my mike stand. I can set up my monitor sound just the way I want it without even bending over. And it doesn't blast anybody else either. The Behringer is a cheaper version of one made by (I think Mackie) but I am satisfied with the Behringer. I used IEM before and I really felt disconnected from the rest of the band, although our rehearsal room was so loud (or I should say the people playing in it) that I am pretty sure the IEM saved my hearing. However for live use I prefer the little mike-mounted monitor. fits in a little gig bag and weighs almost nothing too. Costs much less than an IEM system.
  21. I have a loosely-related question. While in the Edit program: Whenever I add a Volume Pedal FX block I then "unassign" from FS1-4 it so it is always there, and so I don't waste a FS on something I don't ever want to turn off... but after that, when I move the expression pedal, the little * shows up next to the patch, as if I have actually changed the patch. This happens every time, even after I DO save the patch to the Pod. But all I did was move the expression pedal. Is this normal behavior or am I doing something wrong? I am in my very first of "Podliness" so it is possible I am missing something here.
