  1. I've got a mole on the inside. Wait till you see the HD600...one word: wormholes...
  2. I understand that this project has been halted, as the R&D guys kept arguing over where to put the beer cozy... :D
  3. Here's one with the cables on eBay for $65 US... http://www.ebay.com/itm/LINE-6-VARIAX-WORKBENCH-HARDWARE-INTERFACE-/331123303776?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4d187ca560
  4. I would try reflashing the firmware at least once or twice...some have seen other issues resolved by doing this. Don't know why it works for some things and not others, but it's worth a try before you send it to Line6 for repair.

Thanks...tried it, works much better than what I'd been using even though I'm not running a DT series amp (HD>>Carvin TS100 power amp>>Marshall Silver Anniv. 4x12), and listening straight out of the HD, it's like night and day compared to what I had going...anyone having issues with the acoustics should give it a try. Might have to tweek EQ a bit, and add some reverb, but that's it. Great idea...

You're right. This is the ugly truth that most won't say out loud...technology is only a benefit for those smart enough to realize it for what it is, a tool to enhance inherent or acquired skills, not as a substitute for them. I think a lot of this stuff is gonna create a widening IQ divide, if you will, given a long enough timeline. Much like we will soon have only the uber rich and the dirt poor, something tells me there will eventually be a small handful of folks with an IQ above room temperature, and over-abundance of mouth breathers with the iThingy 9s surgically implanted in their forearm, blissing themselves out 24/7.

LMFAO ... or train tracks, drainage ditches, off the end of a pier...lol All of these devices bestowing "convenience" upon us, are doing so at a cost. Over time will make us collectively dumber, and increasingly dependent on technology to accomplish even the simplest of tasks. We've already stopped teaching critical thinking, instead just teaching kids to pass an endless series of standardized tests, so that a school's "progress" (or lack thereof) can somehow be quantified, as a means of securing Federal $$. But who cares if they can think, as long as they have an app to tie their shoes? Welcome to the Idiocracy...an underrated movie btw.

Could I impose upon you to elaborate on this, or point me to the right thread? Are we just talking starting with an empty patch and leaving out the amp model?

Yes, I have noticed that...a bunch of TVs all playing the same thing with slightly different latencies sticks out like a turd in a punchbowl. Same reason I don't want to play in a 5 guitar ensemble...each guy is gonna have a different idea of where the beat is, and God help you all if you try and swing anything. But that said, with one guitar and one amp I've never been bothered by it. Just me I guess.

You're probably right...nothing's perfect. At one time or another, I've had a love/hate relationship with every piece of gear I've ever owned. Today's perfectly tweaked patch with sound awful tomorrow if you've been playing for hours and are tweeking with tired ears. Isn't that why we're always buying new stuff? Maybe this amp/guitar/cable/case/strings/picks will be "the one". Oh well, the search goes on...
  11. Something does seem different with the acoustics. I've gone back and forth between 1.9 and 2.0 a few times now, and they never sound the same through the 500X patches I have after the switch...then again, I also mucked around with the string volumes whilst experimenting, so that may account for it, I suppose.

I hate the damn things, honestly. Lived just fine for the first 30 years of my life without one. Now, if you leave the house without it, it's almost as horrifying as if you'd forgotten your pants. No good...but oh, the revenue!
  13. I suppose it would depend on the finger... ;) Seriously though, I don't think just tapping on the piezo is gonna tell you much of anything. String up the guitars with the same gauge strings, then play with the same model (from same firmware version), on the same amp settings, and see if one has more bottom end than the other. Then you'll have your answer. But even then, there may be discrepancies between the output of the individual piezos...it's hard to definitively A/B anything with these guitars, or any two guitars for that matter. Even two 59s may sound different.

I'm sorry, can you repeat that?...I wasn't listening. Ooh, pretzels! :D

Yes you did. Twice. Which is evidently your definition of "sloppy". And judging by the number of folks who are perfectly happy with the performance of their rigs, you just covered at least half of the people on this forum. Never said it wasn't there...quite the opposite, actually. .

To date, perhaps...10 years ago, smartphones were a fantasy too. I'm not sure the human ear can even be that discriminating. Mine certainly isn't, and I'm not sure I'd want to it be. Wouldn't want perfect pitch either...anything that's even slightly off must drive those people nuts...but I digress. I think the latency some claim to "feel" stems from the fact that intellectually, they know its there, since it can be measured with the right tools. After a while they convince themselves they hear it, top down processing...JMHO. We're talking about microseconds...less time than it takes to blink your eyes. Far less actually, and we can just barely perceive that if you pay attention to it.
  18. Near as I can tell it's a 50/50 love -hate relationship wih the JTVs. Many guys who've had the older Variax guitars have gripes, and don't seem to like the newer guitars. Personally, I have nothing to compare the JTV to...I have found that this instrument has some quirks, and a few things needed getting used to in terms of pick attack, etc, especially for the acoustic models. But I like the strat tones on 2.0...some do, some don't. Very subjective and probably always will be.
  19. I never bothered to look into headphone "requirements" as such, but I'm using a $50 pair of Sennheisers, as my AKGs recently died. They work fine. Plugged in my crappy cellphone earbuds with an adapter just for laughs, and they worked too...sounded like boiled sh*t, but it works. You can buy a $500 pair if you want, but it isnt necessary.
  20. Unfortunately, it sounds like its bricked...shipping to Line 6 for repair/replacement might be your only option at this point.
  21. When you save the patch, it allows you to select the "destination" switches A,B,C,D in each bank, corrrespondiong to the lower row of footswitches on the board. If you want to use the upper row of footswitches to toggle to an entire patch instead of using them to toggle various fx, I believe you need to change it in the menu settings. Press and hold the VIEW button, and you'll have access to 10 pages of other settings...it's in there somewhere. Not sure which page.
  22. Same thing applies here...dunno about the impedance issue, but every pair of cans you plug in are gonna sound different too. Best to get a pair of decent studio headphones with the flatest frequency response you can find for the money you're willing to spend. Otherwise, if you spend much time tweeking through the headphones, and then plug into your amp, you're gonna have the same problems all over again. You might need 2 sets of patches, depending on how you're listening...
  23. Yep...I puzzled over that for the better part of an hour the first time. And not even a hint that it's necessary to log in...
