9-11-15 ???? Is this date still the ETA of the Helix
Digital_Igloo replied to jaminjimlp's topic in Helix
I seem to remember a study done a while back. The only MI brands that Joe Schmo had even heard of were Yamaha (likely because of their motorcycles, waverunners, chainsaws, etc.) and Fender. Gibson was a distant third. We have no expectation that Helix awareness extends past the tiny group of discerning digital-based guitarists out there, and that's fine. If Line 6 wanted to rule the world, we'd make something other than music gear. -
There's a template for that, complete with pre-fader sends, post-fader sends, and EXP1/2/3 as faders for the first three stereo channels.

I don't think Line 6 has ever had an official release date; we ship when we're done. Actually, I'm trying to remember an official release date for any piece of MI hardware, ever. I'm sure it's happened; just can't remember one. -
Via USB, Return 1/2, or Return 3/4.
-
Yes. There are even templates to create two presets within one.
-
Sure, you can use the Aux in, but it's mono.

Definitely—there are a metric ton of Helix clips and videos out there—far more than for any other pre-release MI product I've ever seen. It's just easier for some people to complain than it is to Google, ya' know? :P "But, but, but... Line 6 hasn't made me a custom video with exactly what I want to hear yet!"

Variax model, volume, tone, per-string tuning, and mag/model selection/routing can all be set and recalled per Helix preset. What's even cooler is how Variax's volume and tone knobs can control dozens of parameters in Helix and even send MIDI CC or CV to external gear. So you could literally control vintage (pre-MIDI) pedals and synths from your guitar.
-
It has two—FX Return 1/2 and FX Return 3/4—and they're even fully routable. If your MP3 player is an iOS device, it can also connect via USB. Helix is a high-end studio and touring piece of gear. A stereo 1/8" input isn't really appropriate for those environments.

Yeah, it was sort of a joke. The post you quoted predate's Helix's announcement, by the way. :D

Yes—Tonestack knobs, Sag, and Hum. Each tube sags independently, just like the real amps.
-
While in Pedal Edit mode, press FS10/FS11 for fine increments/decrements.
-
Interestingly enough, you can select mics and IRs with your feet, because they're done with the six knobs below the screen. For this reason, you can also toggle between two mics or two IRs with a footswitch (or MIDI CC).
-
Not currently. If Pedal Edit mode ends up really resonating with people, we have solutions already mapped out.
-
Any computer editor still requires you take your hands off the guitar. It's a huge distraction. That's why Helix has Pedal Edit mode. You can edit your tones without bending down, using a computer, or taking your hands off the guitar.

Nobody's putting any products down. The cap-sense switches, RGB LEDs, and scribble strips are a HUGE part of what makes Helix Helix. It's how you get around. It's how you edit. It's how you control parameters live. It's how you know what's going on. It's why your tones can be more creative. It's why you can make tones in 30 seconds instead of 10 minutes. It's why you have more confidence while performing. It's how you'll be able to take advantage of certain unreleased features, including those we haven't dreamed up yet. Our remote isn't notably better by itself (in fact, right now it's worthless without Helix Rack)—it's simply designed to extend Helix floor's countless advantages to Helix Rack. We're not going to undermine all the UI/UX work we've done—and spend untold hours and resources doing so, at the expense of adding to and improving existing features—just to make it easier for people to not buy our products. I mean—how would I pitch that to the rest of the company? There is, however, an advantage in making it easier to control Helix Rack from a DAW via MIDI or USB, so some overlap isn't outside the realm of possibility.
-
I can't stress enough how tightly wound Helix Control's cap-sense switches/scribble strips and Helix Rack are. Attempting to shoehorn in a third-party foot controller is completely missing the point. It's like buying a Tesla P85D and then deciding to pull it with sled dogs.

Amp+Cab = Preamp, power amp and (matching) cab models Amp = Preamp and power amp models Preamp = Preamp model only There's no separate power amp category.

Remote footswitch emulation (which is in Helix) responds to specific Global CCs. For example, sending CC50 to Helix (any value) emulates Footswitch 2. If you want to engage a switch momentarily, your controller should send any CC50 value upon press, but send a second CC50 (again, any value) upon release. This is different from per-block bypass via CC, which, if ever implemented, would assume reception of different values for enable (64-127) and disable (0-63).
-
Nope—your foot controller would need to transmit a specific CC for both press for release. If your controller can't send a CC on release, how would Helix or Helix Rack know when you've lifted your foot?
-
Currently, this is the way Helix works as well. Helix's MIDI engine is certainly capable of responding to per-block CCs with both on and off values in the future, but you'll want to add this to IdeaScale.
-
The Helix application truncates or lengthens all IRs to 2048 samples.

You can assign a Gain block to a switch for an ultra-transparent boost, or even better, assign up to 8 parameters to a single switch (Amp mid gain, master volume, etc.) and then label it TommyLeee'sBoost.
