I've tried every combination of setting output to multi, USB 1/2, 3/4, etc. I've tried to record from all eight USB channels that S1 shows in the audio matrix, multiple sample rates, reinstalling S1, everything I can think of. S1 sees "Line 6 Helix" as an audio interface, but none of the input audio appear to get routed to tracks. The track input says that it's set to the correct input (the one selected in the matrix), but no sound. Meanwhile, GarageBand works fine. Logic works fine. Presonus says it's line 6. Line 6 says it's presonus. I filed trouble tickets with both companies, sent them screen shots and system profiles. No luck.

I'd be interested to see how you get studio one to record from the helix. No matter what I try I can't get S1 to record audio from Helix over USB. The only way I could make it work was to go 1/4" out of the helix into an Audiobox interface, and use that as the interface. I can use helix as the interface with other DAW software, but not S1. So if you get that working, please post back here.

I'm using Helix 2.21 and trying to record on a Mac (10.13 beta) using Presonus Studio One. I can select Helix as the recording input, and I see 8 available sources (USB 1-8). I can assign a stereo input in the matrix to USB 1/2, but I get no audio in Studio one. I have no problem using Helix over USB with GarageBand, OBS studio, or as the input/output for any other application on the Mac. The only problem I've had is with Studio One. Presonus support has looked over my screenshots and system output and says it must be a line 6 issue. I've tried both with and without installing the Mac Beta driver. I've tried setting Helix to output on USB 3/4 (and changing the Studio One matrix to match). I can never get Studio One to get any audio from Helix. I have a Presonus Audiobox USB 96 two input interface, and if I plug a microphone into the Audiobox and select that input in Studio One I can record audio from the mic. So it seems like Studio One just won't work with a non-Presonus USB interface. No problems in other audio applications. Anybody run into this? Any suggestions?

I use a pair of LT2s in floor mode. While I don't have his latest set, I do have a couple of Glen's packages. One of my favorites is the Bogner Ecstasy. I did replace his IR with one from the Ownhammer pack, which I prefer. If nothing else, they are great starting points. Save a copy of them and tweak away. I feel like they were good value for the money, and Glen has been very responsive when I needed help with the patches or with a transaction. I used them as templates when I first started with Helix. Reminds me that I need to go check out his latest.

Tone Made Pro class in Austin tonight. They moved it from the north GC to the south GC. This sucks because I'm up in Round Rock, and trying to get to south Austin between before 6:00 will take 90 minutes. Not sure if it's worth it.

Given that helix can be used as a USB sound card, can the looper record audio from USB? I thought I might make use of the 1/2 speed function, and slow down some parts I'm trying to learn, but I can't get the looper to record anything but the guitar input. I'm playing YouTube videos on my Mac and using helix as the audio output. Can the looper catch the USB audio? I can't figure out how to do it.

All the wahs and how they are activated. I'll probably put my Bad Horse on my Helix board. So far there are four things I haven't been able to give up: Mobius, Polytune, Drop, and a wah. The onboard wahs are passable, but completely uninspiring. I much prefer the spring return in my Horsie, No toe switch to worry about. I know you can configure the expression pedal to activate the wah, but it doesn't auto return. So I either have to rock all the way forward and smash the pedal (what is it with the force required to activate the toe switch? Really?), or I have to rock it all the way back and hope that I don't bump it taking my foot off (while thrashing and looking fabulous).

There used to be a series of books callled "The Missing Manual". I think you just volunteered to write the missing manual for Helix. I'll send you $19.95 when it's ready. I'm coming from the "thousand live gigs" side of the island. When I record I have always used Guitar Rig or Amplitube direct. I never mic up my live rig for recording. Too loud, too fussy. To me, Helix feels much more like pulling Amplitube out of my Mac and using it live than it does pulling my live rig into a DAW. It functions very well as a direct recording modeler. It doesn't function nearly as well as a live rig for those of us used to blasting away with 4x12s and 100 watt heads. Not without a lot of tweaking (which is antithetical to most of us that blast away with analog gear). The big shift happened for me when I stopped thinking of it as an amp. It's my headphone feed from the control room while I'm recording. So now my duties have essentially doubled. I have to craft a great tone, and I have to be the engineer that mics up the cab. I'm now the sound guy in addition to the guitar player. I think you're exactly right. If I'm going to wear the "sound guy" hat too, I better get some eduction. So when will you be publishing the Helix Missing Manual? :)

Möbius in stereo + Helix = gloriousness
StruckingFuggle replied to StruckingFuggle's topic in Helix
Not sure it's really a quality issue, because the mod effects in Helix are pretty good. I just prefer the sounds in Möbius. The phaser is thick and chewy. The chorus reminds me of all the 80s glory days. The rotary and vibe are killer. It's just one great preset after another. There is a reason why so many boards have Möbius, big sky, and timeline. They are actually worth the money. If I had an extra $1k I'd have them all on my board next to Helix. The Strymon boxes are big, power hungry, and expensive, but they deliver. -

Crappy playing, but here's a quick clip. The effect kicks in around :25. Make sure you're in stereo, and make it loud-ish. https://soundcloud.com/user-107575333/mobius-demo -
Pops and clicks when using Helix as USB output on OSX Lion
StruckingFuggle replied to StruckingFuggle's topic in Helix
It's the latest my Mac Pro 1,1 can handle. It's the 32 bit bios, which can be upgraded, but only through a convoluted process (which is unsupported and likely to brick the machine). -

I've tried, but it's just not the same. Recording and playback on my studio monitors just doesn't capture the sound. In headphones, or on my monitors it sounds like "meh, chorus". But sitting between these two L2t cranked up it's like "yea, baby!" It's the whole "amp in the room" feel. :) I'm feelin it, man. -

Anyone besides me like to see an EP Booster model?
StruckingFuggle replied to guitarman2323's topic in Helix
I loved my EP going into my Blackstar. But the EP going into the Helix just didn't do anything for me. I haven't put it in one of the loops yet, maybe that's the key. I really liked the way it fattened up the signal before it hit the preamp. Didn't get anything like that when running into the Helix guitar input.- 4 replies

I've got a 1,1 Mac Pro running OSX Lion, and I use Logic Express. I've installed the Mac beta driver, and can select Helix as input and output. But when I'm monitoring recording or listening to playback I hear clicks and pops. If I record something using Helix USB as the input, and then route that to a different audio device (Lexicon Lambda in this case), the recording doesn't have the pops/clicks. So it seems to only affect playback output going to Helix from Logic. I don't hear the pops/clicks when I play Youtube or iTunes audio. Any suggestions? Upgrading to Windows-based DAW is in my future, but not immediately. I've been using Helix XLR out into the Lexicon to record, and that works fine.

Hooked up my Möbius in stereo for the first time. Wow. Whowatt with a little Minotaur and some stereo verb and delay, add the "widening" chorus from Möbius and omg. http://i451.photobucket.com/albums/qq235/kurt_shetler/EE4A6038-2A21-4784-BAD4-3C1786D12937_zpstsvxza27.jpg

After seeing one of the "using helix live" videos posted here in the forum recently, I have revisited the stock cabs. I was determined to get the 80's pop-metal sound from Poison's Look What the Cat Dragged In album (don't judge me). I did some research, and started off with the Tube screamer -> Brit 2204 -> single Cali 1x12, but ended up exploring the dual cab with a combination of Cali 1x12 and 4x12. I've been comparing that against the Ownhammer Marshall/Mesa IR and getting pretty good results with both. My approach to building patches has changed quite a bit since I first got Helix. Going back to listen to the stock cabs, I don't think they suck, but there are some I like and some I don't. Same with the Ownhammer/3SA/Redwiez IRs. They are an effects block. Some of them fit the tone I want, some don't.

I use a polytune 2. I just could not get along with the tuner, and I've used the tuners in many rack mount units and pedals. Perhaps I need to take advantage of the offset feature, but I always find that while it'll tune individual strings, when I play fourths it's way off. I'm constantly fighting B and G and bar chords when I use the Helix tuner. No issues with a Polytune. Perhaps its accuracy is the issue? I don't actually like the sound of a perfectly tuned guitar, because it's not possible to get all chords in tune simultaneously. Isn't that why alternate tuning systems and microtonal fret guitars exist? Is it possible that most other tuners steer you to a middle of the road tuning? I don't have a strobe to check it.

Thanks! iPhone does this so you can frame the shot and your image moves like you do. That is, you move left, your image moves left. If you take pictures it will flip the image to correct it, but does not flip video. This was on FB live. I had about 10 seconds to set up my phone, and the only convenient place was on the sub. So that may be why it actually captured some low freq.

Video Footage Of Me Using My Helix "Live" Onstage
StruckingFuggle replied to robbieb61's topic in Helix
Nice. What were you using for the rhythm patch? It sounded really good. -
There are five stages of Helix. Denial: "I can't believe it sounds this bad. All the videos make it sound awesome". Anger: "WTF? I just paid $1500 for a frickin POD XT. I want to smash this POS. " Bargaining: "Maybe if I give Glen Delaune $150 I can make this thing work. If I can just figure out what Sag is, maybe I'll like the tone". Depression: "I hate my tone. Nothing works. Upgrade failed. The IR manager sucks. My Pedal squeaks. I'll never get this thing to sound right. I hate Line 6. " Acceptance: "Too late to return this thing now. I'll try the Ownhammer IRs and actually read the advice on the forums. Hey, this thing sounds pretty good. Everything will be ok. "

Lol. I didn't even notice until you pointed that out. Pretty sure I had my eyes closed going "don't screw up, don't screw up, don't screw up". Sometimes it's hard to play like nobody else is listening.in a room full of pretty good musicians.

My company hosts a battle of the bands every year. Band must be made up of employees. We had two practices and then three of the guys were traveling for two weeks and just got back the night before we played. First gig with Helix. After upgrading to the Ownhammer IRs I'm much happier with how it cuts through the mix. I don't think anybody in the crowd would have picked out that it was a modeler. I was pretty happy with it. It's recorded with an iPhone, so the mix isn't great. Looking forward to getting some fulll volume tweaks in the coming months
