  1. Yea on the FB group I have heard of other 10.9.5 users having this exact issue Under downloads for Line 6 Updater you should be able to scroll down and find the older 1.11 ....I at least was able to update the Helix to 2.5 but can't get it to work with HX edit without the latest version of Updater I actually don't have a Helix control unit and I have tried running both Line 6 Updater and HX edit after rebooting and with nothing else running. Based off other 10.9.5 users experience I believe that to be the issue.
  2. It says its compatible with OS X Not sure if 10.9.5 is too old but the wording from Line 6 makes me think it should work
  3. Hello fellow Helixers!! This is your typical thread around update time of someone having issues. So, what are my issues? Every time I try to open up the line 6 Updater with my Helix on it crashes instantly. It doesn't even open up and freeze or anything like that. You click on Line 6 Updater and the little program bounces on my dock (I am on a Mac) and then goes straight to a "Line 6 Updater Quit Unexpectedly" message. Conversely if the Helix is turned off I can open the Line 6 Updater program and sign in. I can then go to where it says "select device to update" but nothing is there. Logic would say TURN ON YOUR HELIX....well if you do, the instant it's done booting up Line 6 Updater crashers and gives the same "Line 6 Updater Quit Unexpectedly" message. BACKGROUND INFO: I am on a Mac running OS X 10.9.5. I have updated the Line 6 Updater program, drivers and Helix edit to latest firmware with no issues. I have tried rebooting my Mac, switching to different USB ports (haven't tried different cords however) and turning off all other programs. My Helix is currently on firmware 2.20 Thanks for any help or insight guys! Hopefully soon I will be jamming out on a sweet Freidman sim ;) update: I am on line 6 Updater firmware 1.11 and it doesn't seem to be crashing now. Hopefully the update goes through okay. If a mod wants to delete this thread please do. Maybe it will be helpful if some people face similar issues. Cheers!
  4. When it comes to videos of the helix wether it's metal, twang or anything in between I think the more the merrier
  5. that's weird and I don't know why it keeps doing that...if you change the extension of the file to what it should be I think it should work
  6. thanks. I did use stock cabs, you can download it here http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2774382/ Word of warning is when I was making the patch I really tried to max out DSP and use all the different paths..Normally my patches are pretty simple but I wanted to have some fun trying to utilize the different things available within the Helix...normally I don't really like these patches as much as my simpler ones but I was pleased with what I got here.. It is because of how cluttered that patch kind of ended up being that I affectionately named it 'Convolution' since its pretty.. convoluted
  7. I mainly play metal and just record and I think the helix does great.. Fits all my needs. Here's a clip of it, no post processing https://soundcloud.com/jaydub-music/line-6-helix-metal
  8. what a cool find! I added your impedance curve to my really convoluted Rectifier patch and really liked it http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2735683/ Thanks for sharing Roscoe

    Helix vs Pod

I thought it was a good video. Obviously there are more nuanced differences between the two and how the modeling behaves and I think that's why most people recommend for those looking between two different products to just go out and try them. I think this video was just trying to show off from a basic starting point how both would sound and the video does a good of showing that.
  10. = I 100% agree with you. That's why I think there could be multiple voicings and modes to filter through to find one that works for the sound you're after. There could also be a mix parameter to blend the processed and unprocessed signal. I think the main idea would for it to be a quick and easy way for people to get a polished sound. Again I find the Helix so easy to use that I struggle to justify a feature like this because maybe it would be overkill...at the same time I do have a more the merrier mentality
  11. This post was inspired by the Helix thread on TGP but I wanted to discuss and gauge interest on the idea of adding almost a built in mix eq curve ontop of the built in helix cabs.. Many talk about the helix having more of a "raw" sound that doesn't try to sugar coat its authenticity of the real deal. My understanding is the helix team wanted to replicate the real thing bar none. I think this is a great approach for modeling and between the great EQ built in the helix I think it's pretty easy to refine the "raw" Helix sound and really tweak tones to ones liking. This could be an arguement to why a "mix" EQ curve-or additional processing wouldn't be needed because we can already do it in the helix. Maybe time spent making a "mix" IR or mode would be better spent on other things. That said I think it could be something pretty useful for wanting to get those sweet tones even faster and I feel like the Helix team could come up with some really cool voicing. There could even be multiple processing modes to give quick mix like settings and voicings. I feel like most will say the Helix is fine with the built in EQ etc.. which I would agree with...but I still think it could be a feature that be handy and fun to use. Either way I love the Helix, I love tweaking tones on it and I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions..
  12. I use it as my audio interface and monitor live through the helix. Works great.
  13. I feel like the beauty of the l6 made amps is they aren't bound by trying to model something else...I could imagine there's a situation where when modeling an amp maybe there's something about it they think would be an improvement but then overall not be an accurate representation of the amp they are trying to model. That said, so far I think all the amp models I have tried sound great so go figure
  14. soooo the new Archon model absolutely rules :D
  15. I just deactivated my Facebook last night on a whim, what does that count for haha
  16. From what I can tell the helix has a lot of potential, to add LOTS of new things and new features. As excited as the people at l6 are and I'm sure would love to share I think think it would be easy for them to dig themselves into a hole making promises about things being experimented with and in development. From what I imagine maybe some coding for certain features takes much longer than expected. Maybe other things come together faster than expected and come out sooner. For any business though it's important to manage customer expectation. I think line 6 wants the more impatient of us to know that they are in good hands, that very cool things are in the works. At the same time they can't give out specifics to which they can't make promises. This is my perception of the company and where they're at.
  17. Hey guys! I use the Helix a lot for higher gain recording and I thought we could start a thread for good tricks or 'go-to' things we do when making a high gain patch. Some of the things I do often are: With a narrow Q remove 2-4db at 4kHz and 2.3-27kHz (depending) with the parametric EQ Usually have the drive between 2.5-3.5 high cut around 8-10kHz with a broad Q boost 5.5kHZ-6kHz 1-2db add the Minotaur OD or 808 before the amp with the gain between 1-4, tone about 5 use light compression at the end of a signal chain (deluxe/la studio) mandarin cab, mandarin cab, mandarin cab These are general things that depend on the guitar and other variables but are general things I do on a lot of the patches I make. I am a big fan of just using my ears and I want to know what things do YOUR ears think sound good and you usually do? To take it a step further here's a video I made today (11/19) going through my whole thought process. You can download the patch in the video description. Hopefully this is something to take your mind off that sweet 2.10 coming ;)
  18. Have you gone to reaper>preferences>audio device and then selected the helix? When I first turn on my helix it takes a minute or two for reaper and my computer to recongnize it as the selected audio input/output but then it recongnizes it and works fine.
  19. These IR's SLAM and sound absolutely fantastic...I would love to see what you could do with an orange cab! No post processing, just straight into the mix https://soundcloud.com/jaydub-music/line-6-helix-fatality-jr-mesa-amp-irneve-tone-shape-ir
  20. This is using the 3 sigma Mes OS Rec 2b impulse..I believe the impulse pack was only $7..very pleased with it! No post processing on the helix either, just straight into the mix! https://soundcloud.com/jaydub-music/helix-test-3
