  1. Whatever what you're trying to do, know that Staff have informed that using both vdi and jack outputs simultaniously ovloads the pre-amp chip of the variax that's passively cooled. So if drawing twice the signal from the same pre-amp but in analogou with active colling of post amping and then dividing the signal somehow might risk the onboard variax pre-amp-chip. From what I understand. GL.
  2. Playing Devil's advocate for a few moments: quantity, doesn't represent quality. <end-of-role/>(Edit: I forgot how taggin' works.. no lollipop..) But, I believe most of Line 6 customers were happy with most of your fixes/solutions. One doesn't have grey-hair without something in return for it, I assume you've grey-hair, since you got something in return for it.
  3. Given that there was a reason you had 2 JTVs, and that you've your justified reservations about another "brand new" JTV, also reservations about Line 6 Service Centers (at least 1 or 2 you've experience with, or specific individuals on a bad day there, or just a "cosmic joke" on all of you), I assume you're not sure how to proceed with your problem. You first wanted feedback about how you can yourself troubleshoot the malfunctioning 89F, to be sure it can't be fixed by yourself somehow. Now driven to the choice to try to have it repaired by others, or buying a new backup one, you're settling for trusting the 59P for now. Thus I assume you're not dependent on it for a living. FWIW - I "had to" return mine 6-7 times (the last one returned there on the spot [1st 6th candidate] was at the retailer personally, after I returned my 5th), before I settled with the 6th-v2/candidate2, that has a partially very dim LED lighting at the far-end of the Model-nob, as this time the only thing wrong with the JTV-89F in this case as well from the factory (aside the missed and notorious palm-muting "plink" that is being investigated for 10s if not 100s of JTV owners). The QC/Quality Control/Check on the Korean manufacturing facility (the "plink" is a more complicated issue), even though each batch has some improvement over the previous one (I noticed personally), they just can't get it close to the 99% "SLA level norm" that for instance website servers guarantee. Even just 1% failure rate over ~250,000.00 (registered forum users), 2,500.00(edited by a factor of 10) potential less than "perfect" Variaxes would leave the facility, and make a Line 6 customer (sometimes very) unhappy. Even if it's just 1% of that number, that's still 25(edited by a factor of 100, cascaded calculation error) Variaxes. Edit: which again, they never get to such a low number of problematic "brand new" Variaxes. Aggregation of many user-"complaints"/-reports proves that. Some give up on the status quo. I was stubborn. It was worth it for me, over the alternative (no flexibility, no personal experience, no experimentation, a lot more expensive separate guitars). Even just for a new hobby, as my case. But again, that's my opinion/choice. Your best bet is either a retailer where you can test the Variax you're interested in with a prepared checklist after reading through the forum, or an online retailer with flexible enough return policy listening to reason when it comes to earnest manufacturing defects/errors. Because if you're not prepared for the moment your 59P gives up on you, you'll be in a worst "place" than where you're now. Edit: that is if repairing your 89F isn't worth it for you, or is more expensive, or financially has a negligible difference. My 2cts. PS I still don't know about intonations (aside the screws for it on the Floyd Rose - left them as is from the factory), so for my hobby at this point I don't care. I raised the action to minimize string-buzz for "my style", not sure how that effected the intonation. At least I'm happy with it, and look forward to any "bonus" (firmware) improvement in the future. EDIT: calculation correction + clarity.
  4. It happens, but you might have noticed by now that you didn't read the OPs original post tentatively enough, can Line 6 still help though somehow? : With the Line 6 Variax guitars, it's not the norm that the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) is < 3 (way less than 3, not a heart ASCII emoji) years. Way less, because you don't rent-out the guitar for it to be used 24/7 for 3 years, nor do you have insomnia combined with workaholism for 3 years (I assume), nor are you an alien (aside Mr. Trump's "showmanship's" views on the homonyme). It's not the norm, your experience is the exception. At least, it should be. Many have their original Variax since the debut still working, electronically (DSP), so has the PCB quality degraded to trade-off costs for more processing power? If yes, then there would have been many more reports of JTV failures after the warranty period. What's important for you, is to *not* repeat the conditions that "killed" your JTV-89F DSP sound signal, otherwise you will lose your beloved 59P as well, and this is not a threat from me. The only thing from your feedback that could have resulted in the premature "death" of your 89F "emulation"/simulation sound, is perhaps a "fried", "pre-amp", or whatever chip @psarkissian has repeatedly warned about in the past, that it's not designed for "simultaneous dual output" (perhaps a costs decision), so using both the 1/4" jack/cable simultaneously with the VDI (thus also powering through the VDI) might have "killed" the chip that normally passes on (slightly amplified) signal from the DSP onto the connected cable(s - should be only 1 cable). If you've done that a lot, it might have been the culprit, but that's just speculation. Whatever "killed" your 89F, it might be interesting for you to make a deal with Line 6 to find out, to avoid "killing" your 59P. I also assume judging from your standpoint, is that the 89F is purchased from a batch before that of the 59P. Otherwise I don't understand your confidence that your 59P will outlast your 89F. If you depend on it for a living, you need answers for yourself (even if you won't pay-up for a fix), or a backup Variax. imo. EDITs: clarity.
  5. Disheartening story.. FWIW - to clarify/be sure - I assume what you meant by that you tried both with a tested fully charged battery and with the VDI, is that the "DSP sound signal" was tested with both a regular 1/4" TS or even TRS jack/cable, and the VDI; even though the Module knob LED lights up when you depress it far enough, that then still only the mags produce sound when Modelling is off, correct? From the context, at least the POD and cables are tested and still working with your 59. If true, then you'll have to take on Line 6 Support's advice, and give them - perhaps a different specific service center than last (few?) time(s) - another shot to win back your trust/"faith" in "the system" at Line 6. If something is missing in this view, I'm sure, or at least hope, that someone will point that out. Does your mag signal stop when you turn on the Modelling btw? Just curious. EDITs: Have you ever been using both the 1/4" jack and VDI cables simultaneously with that 89F? Have you been using the 89F much more often in high temperature environments? Still just curious.
  6. User-reports streaming-in, some with a lot more (technical) details: check (for a long, long time). Line 6; previously suggested workaround(s) also because couldn't reproduce the issue: check (workaround tried and/or rejected [vigoursly] by most users, since and for a long, long time). Affected "powerusers" adamant and "building-up momentum": check. Everyone brainstorming alternative views: check. Line 6; Open for a new approach: check (about 3-4 months ago?). Line 6; Found affected-guitar owner "close-proximity" collaborator: check (within past 2 months, or about a month ago). Line 6; Issue reproduced: check. Line 6; Investigating root cause: check. Line 6; Tried most up to all known possible solutions: check/in-progress (inconsistent results). Line 6; Found root cause: in-progress (balancing workload with new projects; this issue *not* dropped). Line 6; Preliminary "official" solution (not workaround): unkown. "Final solution" (not inviting Godwin's Law; I was guilty for falling in "the trap" on a different forum a long time ago): unkown. What they can't confirm nor deny, is relevance of this issue to (specific) new project(s), "read Variax Pro (HX)". Which is expected, as Line 6 is known for total secracy of new projects since "its debut", for still understandable competition related reasons. So not surprising, but it's a dissapointing reality. But still an optimistic reality-check in regard to this issue, imo. I don't know if it was "the stick or the carret" that worked here. Updated because he was provoked? Hmm.. I see what you all did there maybe. Maybe not.. (Tilt)
  7. Although that might be the general attitude of a big company, it's *not*(edited) the case all the time nor on all product series. There has been a user-report that they're working with an afflicted-guitar owner (in the USA), to isolate the cause(s). If you missed that, or by the time it took everyone to get this far, leading to become sceptical or even cynical about anything Line6 might claim, then that could explain the effort to help everyone to stop daydreaming about this issue. From a "technical standpoint", if the other "rumor" is true that a Variax Pro (HX) is on the way, then making sure this issue doesn't "propogate" to the (manufacturing of) "Pro" versions, would be a priority. A priority that could help everyone get "closure", at least. EDITS: clarity. (Tablet typing is lollipop) And to "add more to the facts", it has been *barely* 2 (two) months since Line 6 "officially announced their commitment" to this issue: (note: the quotes above and below here doesn't imply cause-and-effect, it's at least the "chronological order of events" read timestamps) I just noticed that with this post, I've crossed the line between 99 and 100; thereby I've been "officially christened by Line 6", and now "Iknowathingortwo" hilarious xD
  8. "Remember, today is April 1..." On the otherhand, for real (also just for fun): Mi.Mu/MiMu "Air-Guitar proof of concept" by Kris Halpin
  9. FWP ('Law') occurrences might replace Godwin's Law. Except if it's a 3rd World oriented topic; current Line 6 equipment are irrelevant in that regard. I can't switch tuning, tones and settings with a single footswitch.. help me..
  10. 5 approaches, with overlaping and a few very differing demographics: https://youtu.be/fMq2sTeEb4w
  11. You misread. See details why: BT =//= Remote app.
  12. That was the adapter that I linked to, with which I found RackVax.com to begin with, so originally from the vguitarforums user sellingthe adapter for 200$ including shipping, in mint condition, while new with the cheapest shipping option internationally is about 300$. The thread now includes Elantric's feedback as I pointed out earlier: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=17228 And someone is looking for someone else to build a home-made RackVax with the adapter: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=17564.0
  13. What firmware version will you use in the meantime? Until a relevant development to this issue occures. Did you see their adapter approach mentioning JTV? In my earlier post? Could what you said (discontinued 500 and 700 new parts) be the reason they changed their approach? They still sell the new adapter, while they show the RackVax Electric as unavailable or something. It doesn't seem on the outside by the look of their site that the company itself is dead yet, but not much is updated to clarify what is happening or what to expect exactly. Does their introduction of the adapter also for the JTV means they won't do custom racks anymore but just didn't update the page to retract their quota request form? Or not JTV ones? Or can't without someone's Variax "guts" (Line 6 won't sell "guts" for OEMs?)? Or the RackVax company just won't build custom racks because of less demand for an expensive thing while many are happy with the new Variax guitars themselves and don't need to stick to a different guitar? Or is the GK support degrading the sound (they didn't get it right?)? Did someone contact them? I'm just curious. Edit: clarity. Edit2: Elantric lit some light on what's up with RackVax LLC, which I annotated: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=3928.msg125053#msg125053 And about the lost opportunity by taking too long to start and release the product: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=17228.msg125049#msg125049
  14. Have you tried the v1.9 fw with a gauge .52 string6? Leaving the other strings as they are.Is there anything you would miss about v2.x? Edit: clarity.
  15. If I say something immature and unforgivable now, you and other moderator-like powers (pinned topics, etc) won't use your privliges to put someone behaving like that in line? Babysitting? I don't know much about conflict resolution, I want to feel like I do, but calling the process of understanding a user that didn't register for the sole purpose of abuse, for the sole purpose of trolling, or even for the sole purpose of pissing someone off, surely the process of understanding that customer, or potential customer, surely that process should not be oversimplified to the comparison of dealing with the limits of the cognitive capacities of a newborn. I do appreciate your input. Since I'm still new. I hate the fact that I don't know the specifics of the Poll abuse. But that's also my problem. Edit: spelling.
  16. Are you supporting Line 6's decision? Or are you convinced we can not manage Poll abuse? What was the nature of the initial abuse if I may ask? What was it that talking lollipop to kingdome come about Line 6 in a flaming spree on every thead won't rival? Aren't there more than enough moderators to "keep us in Line"? By which I mean acceptable behavior.
  17. But.. Does the following product then not match the original sounds of the Variax they used? Since the RackVax Electric is designed to be played with a GK hex-mags: http://www.rackvax.com/products/rackmount/rackvax-electric/ http://www.rackvax.com/component/content/article/38-introscroller/154-rackvax-electric-has-arrived/ Alternatively if they do something along the lines of what you said (except for changing the firmware - remains Workbench compatible, perhaps even reflashable), couldn't you get the guts of your variax into a rack by them and still reuse your guitar with a GK3? Although they seem to have taken a different or stagnant route, since they don't mention reusing JTV guts (only the adapter I linked earlier is taking JTV into account and is grouping it with 300 and 600 in terms of relevant connector on the Variax mainboard: "Note that the above product is a complete unit with the Variax electronics (AKA "guts") pre-installed. If you already own a Variax 500 or Variax 700, contact our Custom Shop to request a quote and have us convert it into a RackVax Electric. Download, fill out and submit this form or contact our Custom Shop directly for personalized service." Because they might be able to help you with questions relating to making the hex-mags work with your JTV, whether with the adapter, or guts reuse in a rack for you like they did with the 500 or 700. You might want to ask for their recommendation. Adapter? Or transplant into rack compatible with GK3? If Line 6 was ever going the way of the hex-mags support (I can't evaluate the pro's and cons about that, and challenges), note-tracking and/or 13-pins, they would have done at least one of those a long time ago. So Hell might freezeover before an "alternative Variax system" is offered. Last time there was a rumor lets say, shared on a thread here, that they were working on the Helix/HX Variax Models for the upcomming Variax PRO guitar release somewhere in 2017. And who knows what other interesting things they're working on? And whether HX Models will be possible on the latest JTVs? And offered? And what possible relevant improvement to this palm muting pling issue it brings with the existing piezo Variax system? And as long as we don't have a Poll here, or more votes on the Ideascale entry, there is little value for Line 6 to make a deal to research an inflicted guitar with fw v1.x or v2.x. Speaking of fw versions, have you tried v1.9? Since that's when palm muting support or improvements was introduced right? Edit: clarity.
  18. Fellow Line 6 Forum Users, what do you think? Do you support the Polls feature to be available to any user here?
  19. Can someone test with an inflicted Variax, whether using an external GK3 hex-(mag-)pickup mounted on the same guitar, and connected with the special adapter "GK 13-pin to Variax Adapter Module" (http://www.rackvax.com/store/#ecwid:category=966022&mode=product&product=3958715), has any interesting effect? You'll also need a GK unit to power the GK controller on the guitar. New adapter is currently still available for 250$, but someone is selling it for 200$, and maybe can bring the price down since te seller thinks new price still 300$: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=17228.0(that's how I found the adapter and thought of this test) It might help to isolate the problem further or confirm current suspicions. If the problem is fixed with this test, then that means the problem is carried-on or caused by the piezo processing of string6 default gauge at fault, since the problem can be moved around and a gauge .52 sufficiently helps with the plink. If it doesn't change anything, then we're back to square one. But the tester might have interesting findings regardless, if this is not a wild goose chase. If you've nothing to lose, are a guitar internals experimenter, have the GK stuff and wires or some money to "burn", and you've the plink and no suficient remedy, and you really want your Variax guitar to sound acceptable palm muting, then this might be a test you want to give a try. Btw, did anyone try to physically down tune string6 and palm mute? How about physically go E#? Higher any risk to the bridge/sadles? Any changes by changing physical tuning? Just to poke the problem from different angles. I started a Lounge thread to point out that polling here should be enabled, if enough agree here, I can use the thread to open a support ticket for it, since not enough interested individuals use Idea Scale: User Support for Enabling Polls On Line 6 Active Forums
  20. Just thoughts. You're not obliged. Have you considered just deleting product registration? Or you're implying you will never buy another Line 6 product ever again? You can unsubscribe from email notifications for instance. If it's one account for everything here, then you also want your posts (and any closed ticket) deleted?
  21. I don't know much about the Kemper Profiller. So I wonder the following also within the context of this thread. What is stopping someone to "teach" a Kemper Profiller ALL Helix/HX Amps (effects can be copied too?), and then returning the Helix unit? Technical issues? Or moral/ethical? Illegal? Would anyone listening to a Kemper patch know where itcame from? What if that user distributes those Kemper Patches, possible? I think that's when Line 6 might consider to do something, if it hurts their sales. Should I watch the vids now if relevant to my question?
  22. Add to those subjective mind states, and we might be back to "the wild west"; looking vaguely at the grand history of humans, the former isn't that long ago. If this form of "debated stealing" gets out of hand, the relevant part of the industry might do something about it. Hasn't it often been like that? I think the OP's vid guy (just based on what I read in this thread), however controversial, debatable, arguably petting his "mind" (You did a good job didn't you? Who's a good boy? You are! Aren't you?), at worst case narsisist if biased perceptions pushed, and anyway yet is also a human being having a conversation by throwing a monolog/vlog online and perhaps watching the reaction/feedback vlogs and comments, to form a more complete perspective. Relative culture and custom differences also aside. In the end, what matters is: is what is being observed a trend? Or the start of one? And is that trend leading to the degredation of quality of life by unfairness? Lower market wages and people bound to wage slavery? Even jobloss? Homelessness? Human rights violations? A utaliritarian ideology or just abuse of the theory, is so misleadingly tempting when the focus is narrow, tunnel vision, but ultimately inhumane. I'm not a saint. I learned, however, to distinguish between what I do, and what the norm that majority upholds might ultimatly become, while keeping and eye on the status quo. I read or heared somewhere that I kept in my mind about the law: Thelaw is not the product of morals or ethics, it's a product of experience. If the experience is that of a democracy, then it will be, perhaps very slowly, but ultimatly be steared by the people. With resistance met by the powers that be. Evolution. Revolutions. Case after case after that setting presedence in courts. Every type of case had a first in some court somewhere, even if the difference between the first and the second were coincidentally nanoseconds and on different continents. I don't think a Kemper Profiling product might be lawfully forced to add a disclaimer that they're not responsible for lawsuits, just like any recording software or device states that you can record for personal use in some countries but are not allowed to distribute, might state at some point that you have to own the amp you made its tone convenient for usage and carrying, or have written permission from the lawful owner of the design that produced the profiled tone, despite even if it were profilling a tone Modelled from a Tube amp, so it doesn't have to follow te chain of "stealing" for permission, just the source the user of the profiller is using. If you use a Kemper Profiller to copy an original Line 6 lets say a Tone from their patended original Tones algorithm/generator, would Line 6 deny the user permission for that user for personal or even artistic commercial use? Or just deny the distribution of the Kemper Patch containg the copy of the Tone? Outlandish and irrelevant case for current laws. But the doubt was about ethics. Humane? Or not? Do we really know which one it will be? We never fully see the darkside of anything until we're living it, or at least are confronted with it on TV and statistics. Well maybe the latter is a bad example. Also like someone said, there are much bigger problems, and this question might be too soon. But then making music isn't that high on the priority list if one makes that comparison. Or one would need a measurment standard of what the worth of the time, finances and ethical bending has resulted for one's religion, society, and betterment of the world in someway. And not just having some form of innocent fun any more. Can something ever be really simple for once? Or do I need to be delusional for that? Since ignorance at my age isn't an excuse anymore.
  23. I wanted to ask whether polling is possible with the current forum version, because I couldn't find the option while the feature exists in the latest version: https://www.invisionpower.com/features/publishing I concluded that not everyone here makes an Idea Scale account, just as it took me a long time untill I did. And there are certain questions best answered where everyone relevant for the question already is, and from a sub-forum thread poll reflect with a solid number referenced on the Idea Scale entry that more votes are simply deferred, but the difference in votes up, do also clearly support the idea/request. There are currently according to the visible stats on Idea Scale "Line 6 Ideas" community, "7726 Users", while I don't know how many users are registered on this forum. Also I don't remember whether signing up to register a Line 6 product automatically creates a new forum user. And not yet contrasting what percentage on both are active. Edit: so I just noticed the forum stats at the bottom of the main community page here, and the contrast with Idea Scale, the difference, the distance in numbers between the two is somewhat objectively and subjectively the equivalence of the grand canyon. "128933 Total Posts 294259 Total Members 2594 Most Online" It's a factor of 38~x!!!! Over quarter of a million users! So many registered users, probably only for registering the products without posting on the forum, deduced by the fact that there are so many posts by active users, while all existing posts by everyone combined is about 2/5th of the total of the known assumingly individual users! That's the total registered! Not even the true total of everyone that has purchased a Line 6 product one way or the other, and that have not registered their product. But I assume there are accounts which no longer own the registered product because of they have sold them or the product malfunctioned and was disposed. And I don't know if it's possible to register a product that was previously registered by someone else and not deleted from their account upon sale to the next owner. Despite that uncertanty in the true total known unique users, the Idea Scale maximum total possible ready voters currently, are merely a very small portition of the Line 6 "Potential Roadmap, User Driven Stearing Influence". There is resistence for starting and managing multiple accounts for one brand alone, in a world that is still is filled with needed accounts for so many services despite single sign on via social media accounts. I experienced a similar resistance. Line 6 has once upgraded the old forum (archived the old, also a nice move for searchability), and used this integrated system, which works well. But the fact that the voting system isn't integrated here must have a technical reason. However not allowing polls assumingly to encourage adoption of Idea Scale, is limiting tools here for users to make relevant overviews taking only registered Line 6 users into account. I assume Idea Scale is also meant for anyone interested to give feedback and not necessarily having bought a Line 6 product. Allowing polls here can be complementary to votes on Idea Scale. And might make feedback easier rather than essentially posting +1 and -1 (not the user points system), since voting on a poll here is accessible immediatly to anyone of the almost 300.000 users. Alas most not active, but still, a poll is helpfull. A voter can later decide to create an account if they notice the results of a specific poll would make it clear that it would matter sooner rather then maybe never. And how many might agree or disagree with an idea, and just read and not reply? Whil just clicking an option, is more convenient and anonymous between users but still within the verified interest group.
  24. Thanks found it and voted it up:http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Still-unsolved-problem/716132-23508 It's the first step before every IdSc voter needing to prove with a video to make the head-count more legitimate. I'm the 8th? And no one can change their vote if a home-remedy is sufficient. Edit: it does fragment the conversation. Someone is saying the following over there: " Community Member on 24th Apr 2015 Every Variax guitar I have played has that problem. The real problem in my opinion, is that some people can't hear it. The other guitarist in my band can't tell the difference between the quack of the piezo and the natural sound of the pickup. Weird! "
  25. Aside "coloring with our feelings" for a bit. Lets start with Idea Scale entry just to count how many have this issue, which will help keeping it up to date and not your count as the only immediatly visible source. And then see how many without acceptable home-remedies amongst them. And maybe later suggest the deal.
