I can't help you with this out of my head. But I presume you mean by that, that the Modelling doesn't produce/Model the sounds, not just LED problems (not common, if ever with these). Pressing the Model nob should make a mechanical audible sound. But do you perhaps also mean that the magnetic pickups are not working ('relay' switcher or the like doesn't work) either? Because VDI should allow the guitar to pass-on signal from the magnetic pickups without Modelling turned on (has to be specifically turned off), nor needing any power (whether empty/no battery, or dead power 'diverter'/'receiver'/'source'). "All good" might mean those parts do work. Feedback about that, and as you know trying the charged battery (EDIT: also with the VDI USB interface with a computer), also a 1/4" cable if normal signal isn't passed-on via VDI; all these steps will help (you and Line 6) clarify and isolate the faulty component or next steps, if the case, or what the actual source of the problem is. EDIT (including some improvements): I remember something about the JTV-59 not having been equipped with a grounding cable internally or the like (could be visible if there is an opening at the back)? If the digital electronics is at fault, and I'm not mixing things up, it could be relevant. My 1ct.

I realize this thread isn't formulated as an explicit question. The implicit one could be "Can anyone help me fix it?". But if you mark it as "Answered" (you can for instance choose an existing post for that) it will at least seem much less ominous. For instance, I was already scared of flashing, after a slightly relevant negative experience with the process. But going through your post scared the lollipop (lollipop? really Line 6?) out of me in terms of whether I should ever try to (re-)flash any Line 6 product in the future. Bricking a Line 6 equipment despite doing everything (well, almost; a connected Link shouldn't matter imo, if designed friendly enough, or technically possible) by their "book" with all of the ideal [controllable] factors??? Me Angry. Its effect on me is not your fault anyway, but that's not my point. The green "Answered" icon that will appear next to your thread (also in the list), will go a long way in reassuring that everything in this regard at least has been well sorted. Deleting is never my favorite choice. Unless I become uncontrollably psychotic; in that case there is no sense in explaining what the lollipop (it doesn't seem that I will soon get used to this auto-string-replacement, it's just poo reference for [relatively acceptable] free-speech's sake!) Also you might want to use their MD5 tool to check the FW files before using them, something that I will definitely do each time from now on. Tricky complications; I know.. <_<, but in terms of possibilities and potential, Line 6 has no contest. Their implementation process (including contracting 3rd parties), however, has yet to someday become perfect enough. That notion is also bad for my predisposition to delusions, among others; to clarify my standpoint.

I'm going to use a double post because the size of my previous post and this one (both posts together would be too much), to update and close this issue on my part. Basically it wasn't a ROM issue (this particular one never could be in retrospect, otherwise anyone could change their guitar model by loading that FW, so it was: ;in the factory ([south?] Korea [contracting 3rd party? or a Line 6 branch?]). I opened a support ticket for the feedback gist I quoted above, and simultaneously sent it back to the shop, and the last Line 6 support feedback was at 6 August. In the meantime I gained a lot of experience with various productions of this model, and figured a few things out, also how to reproduce the 2nd issue clearly with the actual relevant setting, also with a contrast (not really a workaround), which I will get into at the following topic:My (incremental + messy) 'Review' - JTV-89F + Firehawk FX. So I also found out based on the working of the other productions that the Alternate Tuning nob of this particular one was connected in reverse: Baritone was Model, Standard was Drop Bb/flat, etc.. and visa versa, so also for all of the other options and their counter-ones from the end side. In retrospect makes sense, since the Standard Alternate Tuning measured wasn't like the standard tuning of the magnetic pickup. So basically I'm not sure whether they can fix it, or weather someone else bought it as alternative stock as-is for a (possibly significantly) reduced price. But I did my part. I'm done with this particular production. The support ticket and conversation (most recent reply upward, take some time to open after downloading) is attached. I don't think I understand what the implication(s) of that could be.. But both the 4th and 5th test tracks were of the T-Model preset patch with the Model Tuning nob set on "Model". And that weird thing that happens to it when at certain pace going upward from string #1 to #4, happens on both the shipped FW (v2.10) of the JTV-89F and the latest (v2.21). On the side: the Model Tuning nob when set on "Model", then the first issue (4th test track) happens intermittently and unpredictably despite which preset Model/patch is active. But I suspect that is just my faulty shipped guitar in combination with the latest FW (v2.10 didn't have that). I attribute it also to the similarity to your previous JTV-59 with perhaps other faulty electronics' symptoms (perhaps related to why it's being recognized wrongly). Anyway, that's my current 2ct.. I guess. Here is my relevant rant. Like: what do other members think/expect in the future? Is there any consensus? :ph34r: Does this little overview of corrected assumption(s) (including or perhaps mostly mine) show anything worth being more clear? For instance "Here is the JtV89 custom bank for all JTV Owners." While in actuality Variax Standard (2015, according to a vid feedback: slightly higher SW version) works fine with those custom banks according to @CipherHost " if I can try them in my Variax Standard." + "I just loaded them into Custom 2." See, he found out about the existence of those 5 high-gain JTV-89 exclusives a day before he found my issue mentioning it as well, and made the best of the situation, provided helpful feedback with the others, and helped us (at least a simple user like me) as well find out that it's not limited only to a single JTV model, not even to only the JTV family, but any modern Variax can do it. Why did it have to be like this? Finding out this way? Have you seen the Firehawk FX Remote app Tones cloud system? Aren't more users or potential customers expecting such developments to propagate to Models/patches? Will the Helix based 3.0 (speculating, since it's a totally groundsup separate and improved approach compared to the Line 6 HD tech) at some point be like that? Shouldn't it? Isn't this a place for users to 'Dream Up' (this is more like copying their own ideas and suggesting it back to them), get some common consensus, or rejection of some sub-group's or single user's expectations and hopes? You might suspect by now that I don't have much better to do. And you would be right. I'm kind of splitting hairs again. Somethings just bother me. The world is more complicated than it needs to be. I guess I'm venting. For instance the JTV-89 high-gain model exclusivity was a part of my purchase consideration (although I didn't phrase it as such in my related issue), I assumed too soon and didn't double check. Wanting to Have more digital options. But that was not what I needed to pay or paid for. I paid essentially for the rest of the features, not the essential Variax HD capability. I've my peace with that. But it bothers me how it went down. And I was imagining how it will be in the future. That is interesting. Along with my other issue, you've helped me acquire more certainty about whether or not to send my current one back. The similarity makes the hopelessness of a SW/FW-based fix seemingly a fact. After my FW upgrade, my downgrade somehow even though with a bricked-impression error and guitar initial response, did become v2.10 again. And although seems to have helped my other issue, it left my current guitar essentially in the same boat as yours. Although no shipping damage noticed. That's reassuring. Thank you. I did reference that same thread, and I also noticed that you two are one of the Line 6 Expert (forum) users since a long time. In terms of the end-user experience, I hope in the future it becomes integrated with a star-rated ('average' quality/reliability+compatibility) overview just like the Tones through the Firehawk FX Remote app. Which supports the notion that all HD Models/patches (2.0+, including exclusive Models/patches) are compatible with JTV+ and 2015+ Variax guitars. Good to know. Marketing mist becoming thinner. Although the focus and true added-value of each particular Variax is unique. I spent some time testing the Model Tuning, and although prior to making the purchase decision I knew from one of Sean's explanations in a vid (I remember double checking somewhere else), that in terms of the 'digital-interface' there is a difference in the preset Model Tuning (different focus/assumptions). But currently I've not compared the relevant test-results of my current JTV-89F with the Model Tuning of the JTV-69. Below is a copy of what I will sort out later. And here I thought because Samsung is a [south] Korea based company, that a guitar manufactured in Korea based on a Line 6 (USA) design, couldn't let me down.. That I might have found the 'Apple' of the digital guitar world. Well, maybe I did. But that's because it's also not a good thing. Although this is not Apple Maps style let-down, it's in my situation, nevertheless, at least somewhat disheartening.. But I'll keep on trying until I get a good one. I received my first guitar (ever) this past July: JTV-89F (2013 model). I wanted it for a lot of reasons. Sadly I'm in the process of sending this particular (manufactured in Korea - hopefully better quality control in the future) production, back for a replacement. This particular guitar production shipping date to online-shop from Yamaha Europe: March 2015 EDIT1(2015-08-27): the exact shipping date of the batch of 4 of these to the shop I bought it from, is 23 March 2015: (need to be logged in possibly to view the zoomin evidence) This one I will label #1; it's returned. And another 3 as well; 2 from different batches. All the others I returned back to the shop, I did for different reasons. I won't reference the serial numbers, for privacy reasons, and perhaps it's better that the factory in Korea gets a common improvement request and even higher quality (a lot of good work was put in each one, I'm sorry about the issues as well) instead of possibly firing someone. At least, that's how those seemed to me, but now it seems there is also a matter of the wrong Alternate Tuning associated with the JTV-69, but with the labels/nob of the JTV-89(F) (checked the specs). Although I specifically downloaded and loaded up the v2.21 firmware from the JTV, it wouldn't make the difference since these seem to be the same file for all recent JTVs. I've double checked that in the download section; there is no specific JTV model drop-down-menu-item or the like. At least this part is definitely reversed; are Model and Standard. But the following doesn't fit that 'reversing theory': Since Standard reversed (switched with the one before last/Baritone) would be Drop Bb/flat on the JTV-89(F) and that doesn't start with an E. Is it a JTV-69 one position? I'm confused. But this situation is not the norm. This is some cluster mess I was never responsible for; and luckily not mine anymore. I will post a separate thread for each of the returned guitars, to keep some overview, since this thread has already a number of, even though interesting, digressions. I searched the forum (also through Google) with a few search terms, a few times, but no relevant topic found. All latest SW/FW. Workbench HD v2.12.0 JTV-89F (v2.21 [shipped with v2.10]) through USB (v1.0.7.2) connected with Windows 7 (SP1) i7 64bit laptop (directly, no hub inbetween). Is there any exclusive Models/Patches that are for the JTV-89F guitars that I can't use because of this partial detection? Although Line 6 Monkey v1.71 detected it as a general "Tyler Variax" and the flashing (EDIT3: with a correct file, manually downloaded) worked fine. But I imagine that process is meant to be compatible with as many as possible. From the download section: "The five high-gain models that were previously exclusive to JTV-89 and loaded into custom bank 1 are now available in the Workbench software by loading the custom JTV bank available online." EDIT4: Although it was preceded by: "For JTV-89 Customers Only: " which seems to contradict the buildup of the sentence that followed it with "previously exclusive". Is it exclusive or not? Does it include JTV-89F? Other Variax models? Unclear. Confusing. But more importantly, where and how exactly is it usable? Nothing in the Workbench HD manual about "online". I must be missing something.. EDIT1: is the following the only (official?) trusted resource? Share And Download 2.0+ H D Models? EDIT2: I'm also interested in Bass (HD) Models compatible with JTV-89F, any good direction in this regard would prevent me from doing something stupid to the guitar.
