  1. Thanks, Spikey. I'm not big on ego. I like to be part of these forums because I know there is a great deal I can learn from others. I encountered an issue with my previous reverb unit and contacted L6 about it, posted on here and on a facebook user group about it.... and never quite found a solution. Turns out, it was the reverb unit itself, cause now that I use a different one -- I have zero issues. I think I've just been skeptical about using Helix with other units since that first encounter. Glad to have a good support system here with all of you, though :)
  2. Yeah. You guys were right. It was the global EQ. I feel kinda dumb for not trying that before, guess I was just too caught up in the improvement I heard to think through it a bit more. I will say, though, I will keep my reverb unit after the Helix, because I like the way I'm able to have my guitar tone's frequencies high-cut, but still get the full spectrum of high frequencies from the reverb unit. I will be sticking a few more pedals in the Helix send/return loops with a bit more confidence now, but like others have stated here, it would be nice to know what the specs are on these send and returns we're using throughout the unit. Thank you guys for your input!
  3. I run my Helix direct to the mixing board, and for the longest time ran an external reverb pedal in one of the send/return fx loops on the Helix. One day I decided to run the reverb pedal after the Helix (1/4" mono out) instead of through the fx loop, and got, what I felt like, was a more pristine/clear sound out of my reverb unit. Now, I don't know if this was due to the fact that I do run the Global EQ with a significant high cut, or because there's a definite affect in tone through the send/returns the Helix provides. I know Line 6 states the guitar input on the unit is the highest quality found on the market, but I'm not sure what's going on with the rest of the input/output jacks. I'm asking because I have a few other high-quality effects that I've incorporated with my Helix setup, but I'm a bit reluctant to use them in the Helix fx loops, but I'm seriously missing the ability to turn them off/on via the Snapshots/block assign. Can anyone share their experience using external effects through the send/returns of the Helix?
  4. Whenever I see people online posting "selling the farm to fund Helix" I cringe a little.. just because I totally get that some of us need to sell gear in order to obtain new gear, but I've found I still very much enjoy some of the pedals I had before the Helix, with the Helix. Glad you took the time to give your effects a go with the Helix before getting rid of them. I had a BBE Sonic Stomp laying around from years ago that I decided to try with Helix, just for shi'ggles (sh*ts & giggles), and it ended up staying on my board :)
  5. I've had good results running dirt boxes in the fx loops of the Helix. I haven't tried running them before the Helix though. I've used a Bogner Wessex, Red House Mint Drive and J Rockett The Dude and all have sounded like themselves to my ears. I do like some of the modeled dirt boxes on Helix, but still prefer the sound of my own dirt boxes on some of my patches. On a few patches I've found that running my own dirt box sounds a bit harsh, and I've been able to tweak the send and return of that particular loop to actually make it sound and feel great. Helix is so flexible! I play exclusively direct and through headphones/in-ears.
  6. That ideascale request for MIDI time clock has been up there for a while... wish they'd update those tickets every now and then. Would love to be able to integrate my Salah Quartz with the unit.
  7. I've only used the Helix through headphone/in-ears, since I'm really only able to plug in at night when my girls are sleeping and go direct when I play at church and listen in through in-ears. So, while I don't know if there's any "magic" I'm missing from not playing through monitors or another speaker setup, I will say that I'm still pretty dang happy with my Helix. (I use Sennheiser HD 280's and 1964 Adels for my in-ears) Like many have stated, I'm sure you need to create your patches to feel and sound the way you want them to when playing silently, but if you'll mainly be playing this way, I will say the Helix is definitely worth the price of admission. Previously I was doing this via my pedalboard > amp head > Suhr reactive load > IR cab sims > recording interface > headphones .. and that was nice, but I just have so much more at my disposal now, AND.. all I need now is the guitar, Helix and headphones :)
  8. Hey, guys/gals. I've been experiencing an issue with trying to integrate my Neunaber Slate (Wet), in stereo via the Helix's stereo loop. I'm able to place the pedal in the tone chain just fine, and when using shorter decay reverbs, I have zero issues. BUT, when I use long decaying reverbs with modulation I get clipping in the high frequencies. It's not a crippling audio clip, but enough of it to really annoy me. I've contacted Neunaber about the issue, just cause I've ran this pedal in front, and in my "real" amp's loop, and never experienced this, but they couldn't really find a reason why this would be happening. • I've played with changing the loop signal type from instrument to line, and vice-versa, but nothing changes • Tried running it in the different loop options available on Helix and also running it in mono, and I still get the issue • I've tried placing the effect before and after the Helix cabs and impulse responses as well, and while placing the effect before these helps a bit, it doesn't fix the issue completely.. and, this effect just sounds much better at the end of my tone chain • I've also tried adjusting the lo and hi-pass filters on the cab sims.. no luck either • Adjusted send/return & mix levels for the loop as well. If I turn the mix level way down (in the 30s) it does get rid of the issue, but it also gets rid of pretty much all of the effect (Haha) Anyone else run into something similar? Any suggestions? Thanks!
  9. ... or an available menu screen that can analyze your patch and break down your DSP usage in percentages?
  10. I've only had the Helix for less than a week, but can relate a bit to Fukuri's DSP frustrations, seems like maybe my expectations were a bit too high. Don't get me wrong, I'm getting some tones that I absolutely love from the unit, but feel that once I've gotten to a point where I'm happy with my base tone, I have to compromise on the effects I'm able to use because I've already maxed out the DSP. But this is also because I'm trying to avoid the delay when switching between patches and am building two tones per patch. I would be perfectly happy building one great tone per patch with all the effects I need, cause I do think there's plenty of available DSP for my needs, per patch, but I'm not happy with the delay between patches. I'm still very new to Helix though, so I'm sure learning the unit better will help me with some of the things I'm uneasy about.
  11. I'm making monthly payments for mine already and don't even have it yet, lol. Oh, the joys of supply and demand :)
  12. Thanks for the update. I just hope I get included in this next batch, the wait is already killing me :/
