  1. @AdminTeam - How do we get the Helix team to take some of the above into account when updating new models? It seems silly to me that a Pod XTLive should have any sound at all that Helix lacks. And there are no shortage of formant filter boxes out there.
  2. I just bought one and was going to try it. Thanks for the insight.
  3. Absolutely helps. Super useful. Thanks so much!
  4. Here's a copy of a patch I was editing which shows the available modulation models I can choose from. I went to look up "Bleat Chop Trem" to see what it was in the Helix Rev D/most recent manual from the Helix downloads page and discovered there was no record of the effect. I further discovered there are several Modulation effects on the Helix not referenced in Rev D, and there are several effects in Rev D not visible/available on the Helix. In other words, they're both wrong. Does a truly updated manual exist that takes into account all the added models, impulses and features Line 6 has added via firmware updates to Helix?
  5. Was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the tremolo - possibly including saddles - and trem block on my JTV-69. Has anybody ever done this? What was your experience and what does one need to know? Those little piezos seem to be the spoiler - can you use any (as long as you connect to the circuitboard mounted on the existing trem block), or does it have to be the ones installed by Line6 in the guitar? Thanks in advance.
  6. Sorry NeilO - can't help you with this. Only did the mod for the Helix and didn't replace any components. Just changed the one wire's connection points.
  7. Sorry for the multiyear delay here. Don't check this too often. Yes, I get the full 0-100 range.
  8. Creating real-time, finely controllable stutter effect is what most people use a kill switch for. Pushbuttons work much faster, more predictably and much easier than rotating a volume knob from mute to full, and won't cause the premature failure of a pickup selector switch (as one might use on a Gibson to create the same effect). While the guy in the video below is playing different stuff than I might, he does pretty effectively demonstrate sounds that can only be achieved with a killswitch: https://youtu.be/9Q1QgsEHZI4
  9. Don't know if any of you were still hoping for a maple neck for your JTV69; I have an extra one on Reverb: https://reverb.com/my/selling/listings?condition=used
  10. If you were looking for a JTV maple replacement neck, I just listed on on Reverb - http://rvrb.io/variax-jvt-69-lg3
  11. It's listed if anyone has an interest: http://rvrb.io/variax-jvt-69-lg3
  12. I actually made 2 separate braided cables - 1 for playing, 1 for Workbench. I tend to go a little overboard with quality sometimes. The Variax instrument cable (which I understand has 2 neutrik ethercon ends and can't be used with the Workbench USB interface) seemed nominally acceptable, but the Whirlwind cable - to my OCDing eyes - had what I was looking for in terms of ruggedization. A little more expensive, yes. But you know how some people incrementally, to the tiniest variation, adjust their guitar, and amp, and pedals, and 40 minutes later, you can't hear an iota of difference from when they started to now, but you've only got the studio for an hour, so they're all "Well, we are just going to have to make due with *this* sound because I can't get it right with this backline!"? I'm like that guy, but only when it comes to having the exact hardware I want. Sure, I'd have been ready to play on arrival, but for every second the EQ tweaker spends getting a sound only he can hear, I've already spent an hour Consumer Reports-ing the bejesus out of my purchasing and modification decisions. It's a tough path, but someone has to walk it.
  13. The length aside (25' is a looong cable unless you're on a large stage), the cable itself doesn't look terribly robust - and ethernet cables are notoriously easy to render useless with one kink or crease. So I was looking for a hardier cable with Neutrik ends. I wound up DIYing braided cable with Neutrik connectors, but now I think I'd prefer a rubber cable. Personal preference; the braided cable is like a conventional flat ethernet cord, with a tough braided nylon cover, but I prefer round, just for the behavior. Performance wise, it works just fine, but some people like peanut butter and some people don't, ya know? Trying a couple of these and will advise how they work out.
  14. $85 with free US shipping/insurance/tracking included. Upcharge for my actual expense if international. UPS to verified PayPal address only. There's a guy on Reverb selling his JTV 6 string rosewood fretboard/maple neck with the locking tuners for $179 - though in fairness he has locking tuners included, if a little generously valued in his final price. You can easily get Hipshots for $40 with a coupon. There's also a guy on eBay selling a Line 6 Variax 5 string bass rosewood fretboard/maple neck with no hardware for $249, which is just beyond ridiculous.
  15. Anybody have any formant wah settings they've programmed? If not, any ideas on how to get them? Maybe via 2 (or 3?) wahs, using the same pedal as a controller, in parallel, to create the necessary frequency variations to get "vowel sounds"? two frequency formant three frequency formant I am a giant fan of Line 6 products generally and the Helix specifically - it's worth more than the combined value of many of my other effects, not even including the 2 JTVs I bought to really unleash it. But I am still surprised this is such a blind spot for the folks doing the typically robust modelling work. Thanks for any help you can provide - Dan
  16. Used to sell guitars - in this case, it's more like a player's special. I'm less concerned about the serial number, as the neck and pickup upgrades are about equal to the MSRP of the guitar and explain the lack of serial number; I'd also de-register if I sold it and give the information over. But I don't see selling it for awhile. Thanks though -
  17. Howdy all - Definitely now a fan of the Variax. I recently bought a 2nd JTV69s on eBay; my first one was black with the maple neck, and the 2nd one has a graphite neck. The graphite neck'd version came with the original maple neck. Looking to sell the (now extra) maple neck but would appreciate any insight into how to remove the serial number without damaging the neck itself - I registered the guitar and do not want any complications should someone who wants to get the snappy maple sound inadvertently try to register the serial number on the neck. The original owner never registered the guitar so it wasn't a problem for me to accomplish. Any ideas? Right now, if I list the neck on eBay or Reverb, I'm going to have to cover it up as in the (MacGuyver'd) photo below, but would rather show the neck with the serial number removed than leave someone dissatisfied with my removal technique if it isn't pictured on the auction. Alt: is it possible to "save" the serial number from being re-registered without my consent here on Line6.com? Here's the neck in question, with my current (sub-optimal) solution. 18. It's a Rocktron Banshee - basically treats a vinyl tube like headphones out. Mount the tube next to your mic with velcro, and when you activate the box, put the tube in your mouth and open it towards the mic with the tube sticking in. The chain is guitar -> effects> Banshee -> vinyl tube -> side of your mouth -> mic -> PA. Not looking at the box at this moment, but I believe you have the option of cutting off the signal to your amp or using the regular guitar sound out of your amp as a double to the talky bits coming through the mic
  19. If I get a nice, braided ethernet cable and connected some Neutrik ethercon ends, it seems like I could have a better VDI cable than is currently available in the market. But how can one activate the locking tab on the RJ-45 connectors with the Neutrik sleeve covering it? I know a few of you have made these already - do you have to break the tab off? Is it locked in the "open" position? Something else? Appreciate any insights. Cheers - Dan

  21. On the Neutrik connections for Cat 5 cables, how does one release the locking tab on the RJ45?
  22. Anybody have any success creating formant (vowel) sounds from the assortment of Helix wahs and/or filters? Any tips and tricks to share so I don't have to fork over more dough on an EHX Next Step or something similar? As a sidebar to this - has anybody figured out a way to route a Talkbox through the Helix in such a way as to keep it totally contained? Given the mic inputs, I'm wondering if the guitar can be routed out to the Talkbox (tube), then back in to the Helix (maybe at a custom location in the signal path/effects chain?), ultimately going out through the 1/4" to the amp instead of the traditional guitar->effects->amp->talkbox->mic->PA. Is this possible with the Helix?
  23. With a soldering iron warmed up, the mod itself took maybe 5 minutes, and that's mostly for lack of much soldering experience.
  24. The Morleys were $50 each via Sweetwater special order, vs $139 each for the Mission pedals. I'd already spent considerable dough on the Helix and the Variax, so saving a little dough while getting better than 2-for-1 pricing made sense for me. Though admittedly the MIssion pedals have a leg up with having the toe switch built in. But I'd been using a Morley Bad Horsie prior, and found that my foot had a preference for the shape and travel of the Morley, so there was also the aesthetic and comfort factors to consider as well.
