  1. I'm not so willing to ignore that a company I established loyalty with would want to gauge me on completely unnecessary products. You upset with something like Helix 2.80? That takes a ton of people and user reports to debug. It's understandable they're going to miss something. And they're pretty good about addressing those concerns - 2.81 came out in a hurry. That's the kind of thing, though big, that's understandable when it comes to them appearing to have dropped the ball (because it's really a matter of additional data being needed). But BSing your customers about what's needed to connect via L6, touting a stupidly overmarked cable that, by your own admission, is no better than the cheapest no frills mic cable you can find? That's just dumb. You had the information out there, then you took it down, and now you're suggesting that a cable that in all likelihood is simply someone else's XLR or maybe AES cable is the best solution? That's not marketing BS. That's a lie. The only person who cares about L6 Link is the person who owns multiple Line 6 products. That's the person you want to lie to? Really?
  2. And another page lost to the internet memory hole. The ability to use mic cables was built in, and public, for L6 connectivity, then hidden from view? As someone who's fully integrated into the Line 6 ecosystem - multiple Variaxes & Powercab Pluses + Helix - I'd probably have bought an L6 cable if it weren't price gouged. Mic cables are already high margin items - Yamaha could easily be selling their own regular cables here at a tidy, middle-man-free markup, but instead the insanely expensive L6 cable is being touted as the 'optimal' solution when in fact a standard M/F XLR would've done just fine. That's disingenuous, Line 6. The people who want L6 Link are your existing, repeat customers - they already have at least 2 of your larger ticket items when they are looking at the product! And so you reward them by charging 2x what an equally capable mic cable can do. And that's not "if you figure out it, you can use a mic cable" - it's a solution that was just as good by Line 6's own public admission! Not cool Line 6. Not cool at all.
  3. So noted. But what is the neck radius of the Amethyst Variax Standard Limited Edition? 13-3/4 as on this Guitar Center page?
  4. Question about physically detuning both Variax Standard and the JTV69: If I want to use thicker gauge strings - say, 12s - and I detune them to compensate anywhere from one to three half steps (such that the tension on the piezos is comparable to 10s tuned normally), how are Variax sounds affected? Which I guess, really, two parts 1. How are standard tuned sounds in Variax mode affected? and 2. How are alternate tunings in Variax mode affected? Can I get away with thicker gauge strings that are physically detuned and still be able to access the full power of the Variax? I don't want to go through the whole setup process if it isn't going to work - so does it? If it matters my Standard is the Amethyst Limited Edition one. JTV69 is 5 or so years old and I haven't updated the firmware that I can remember.
  5. Looks like one of my two questions is answered in this Yamaha owner's manual: https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/2/335682/EG_QC67530_body_en_web.pdf
  6. Can't seem to find 2 factory spec measurements for my JTV69 or my Variax Standard tremolo rear edge height (as in pic - for a Fender it's 3.2mm) string height at 12th fret Yes, I know, I can just make it to whatever I'm comfortable with that doesn't affect playability or intonation. I'd like to be able to set it to factory standard though. Anybody know where I can find this information for the JTV69 and the Standard?
  7. Thanks - wound up picking up some Zexcoils, and they had recently been in touch with Line 6, who he said told him the spec was for 6.4kOhms
  8. I really appreciate the care that a lot of you put into your custom tones, and have been pretty impressed with some of your work. And even when I wasn't exactly impressed - which says more about me than it does about you - I still valued the time and thought that you put into posting your custom tone creations. But we don't all have the same musical knowledge you have, so we don't all know what you're aiming for when you post a custom preset that has no notes in it beyond the title. And we all want to know what you were aiming for/what sound you intended to achieve with your custom presets. So please, don't worry about spelling or grammar, just pretend the person who's reading it doesn't understand what you mean by your preset title and needs some explanation, which only you can provide by way of entering a description of the tone in the "Comments" field when you upload it. I guarantee you it increases your downloads, and who knows? Maybe one day you build enough visibility that you can sell them for some dough to fund your next Line 6 purchase. Thanks -
  9. Is that 6-8 per individual pickup or total/aggregate?
  10. Anybody know the volume and tone pot values on the Variax Standard Limited Edition guitars? Was looking to upgrade the pickups.
  11. Very Seinfeld-ian - "It's like decaffeinated coffee...they charge you more, for less!"
  12. Where can one buy replacement necks for a JTV69? I checked with Warmoth and their deal with Line 6 ended long ago; Full Compass doesn't have them. Looking for a lefty maple neck made to fit without my having to question the fit of or take any measurements to have built or what have you. Doesn't have to say Variax on it, just has to be straight 6 lefty maple that I can also put an Earvana on. Anybody know?
  13. Hi - I know some of you out there are hoping to upgrade some of your gear, so maybe I can help you save on eBay or Reverb or Gbase fees. I've been spoiled with a modded JTV69 that's got a Moses graphite neck, locking tuners and JBE pickups. Looking for a #2 (or maybe a new #1) could be a 69 or an 89 or a Strat-ish style transplant (the last, only if it's a bug-free install with properly shielded cavity, etc.), but want to see something better than stock. Pickups upgraded to a noiseless variety, locking tuners, I'd be SUPER happy if there were another graphite necked one out there. No Floyd Rose please - I change strings too often for that - standard trem or hardtail. Hit me up with DMs if you're interested. Pay by PayPal, would require shipping to NJ. I can pick up within most of NJ and NYC. Whatcha got?
  14. Awhile back I picked up a hot-rodded JTV with a Moses Graphite neck and JBE pickups, and it immediately replaced my other JTV as my #1. I love the thing. Thinking I want to sell one or both of my Moog E1's to fund a custom Variax (ideally with either HD or vanilla JTV electronics, but Standard would do in a pinch), but don't know if anyone is making them. I see a bunch of folks here have some customs, and some of you make them yourselves, but hoping there is someone out there who can make a custom Variax. I have an unused Aerodyne Strat that would look *awesome* as a Variax that I'd love to have converted. Any shops out there doing either custom builds (of their own guitars) or custom assemblies (using customer-provided parts)?
  15. Bumping this. Someone has to know about it?
  16. @Guitarsarang - did you have the CAD drawing for the plate? Ever find another place to make one? Or did you ever make one, @MojoAxe? I'm OK paying for the Black Raven, but I really want to see what alternatives are out there.
  17. @tedulrich - sorry to bug you on this, but you seem to be one of the only people who knows about CV with Helix. is that 8mV closed measurement the theoretical minimum? I'm trying to connect a Moog MP201 to Helix to get its LFO (and other) properties to work within Helix; it's capable of producing (in default unipolar mode) 0v to 5v or (in bipolar mode) -5v to +5v. I don't know if there are any advantages to unipolar vs bipolar. I can also connect it via MIDI, but I typically lack the patience to program. Appreciate any insight you can provide; thanks DMcO
  18. Trying to connect a Moog MP201 multipedal to Helix via EXP 2 and 3 - the Moog uses control voltage/CV out. I recall reading somewhere that the EXPs can be configured to accept CV (the manual only says "CV out", not in), and that the voltages can be configured to some extent within the -3v to +3v range, but I can't figure out how to do it, or if it's even a viable connection as described. Is Helix CV in capable, and configurable? If so, how? While the pedal can output to MIDI, I'd really rather stick with the CV if possible.
  19. Other than the entire line of aftermarket Helix accessories from Gear by CEBA and the Helix & Helix LT face protectors with knob guards by Black Raven Design, what other aftermarket accessories are out there to either protect or pimp one's Helix? Gear by CEBA's offering is pretty comprehensive, though they seem to have stopped at the exact place that Black raven comes in - the two don't compete, each with a unique offering relative to the other. But irrespective, I'm sure there's more that just these two selling protective and "pimpin'" Helix gear. What have you all seen in terms of 3rd party accessories? What else is out there? 20. What kind of pedalboard is that? And does it travel well?
  21. Is there a step-by--step guide to making impulse responses available anywhere that I can use for my Helix and PowerCab Plus? I have a heavily customized Mesa Maverick 2x12 that I'd like to make IRs from. The Mesa sounds great, but the Powercab's 35 pounds vs the Mav's 97 is definitely a factor, as is the flexibility of amp & speaker models and IRs available through the Helix/Powercab combo and the improved live PA options. So far I'm impressed with the Powecab, but I haven't even really scratched the surface of it.
  22. Hey all - Considering adding a Powercab 112 (haven't determined if I want Plus or [nil] version yet) to my Helix rig. Question: I have a heavily modded Mesa Maverick 2x12 with Celestion cream backs; if I want it to, it provides plenty of useable feedback of both the harmonic (think Hendrix "Machine Gun"/Fillmore East) and aharmonic (think Rhoads/"Crazy Train" intro) feedback. I know the Powercab can recreate my amp pretty damn closely, but has anyone using a Helix to Powercab able to comment on getting feedback when desired from the combo? Curious. Thanks; 'preesh Dan
  23. Awhile back I modded some Morley M2's for use with a Helix, but have been reluctant to use them in a live environment because, like so many volume and expression pedals, they're basically fishing wire pulling a slider - in other words, meant to fail. The Dunlops with the 'band drive' seem like a possible alternative to the Mission EP1-L6's, though both are more expensive than the fishing wire Morley M2's. Is there a list of what expression pedals work with Helix out of the box, and/or what expression pedals work with a (specified) mod? The Morley M2 will work after this pretty simple soldering mod. What other pedals work? What mods, if any, are necessary?
  24. Thanks for pointing that out. I had no idea so many filters were added in 2.50. I really need to read these release notes better. Trying Filter models out this evening. Hold please.
