  1. I made adjustments to the Mode setting (Music, Live, Speech, Club), Location as you note (set for how I configure my setup (pole mounted on two stands), and of course the EQ settings. Mode and EQ can obviously make a difference. I go between Live and Club depending upon the venue we play. And of course EQ depends on venue and your personal taste. I usually have one of the guys in the band or our sound guy listen out front while I make the final tweaks during sound check. Hope this helps.
  2. Have to agree with others here. I use a pair of EV ZLX-12P's in my setup with a Helix floor, a JTV-69, and other guitars and they sound great. Plenty of punch, DSP capability to fine tune your setup, and very clear and accurate. They list for around $400 US. Bottom line is that most FRFR's sound good after you put some time in fine tuning everything. The EV's were not ok out of the box but after a few gigs and some offline work I have them where I like them. It comes down to your personal taste and how you want to sound in the end.
  3. I use a pair of ZLX-12P's with my Helix Floor and love them. There is onboard DSP that you can program and save to get the sound you prefer. I have used them as monitors onstage when I can go directly to the house with my Helix or I use them as my main amplification in smaller venues. I use them in my home studio and live when I gig and I am very satisfied with them. There are so many good FRFR options that you basically cannot go wrong with the choice of a good flat response full range unit from any manufacturer. I would love to have the Line 6 solution but my EV units do the job and are road worthy. I think any unit like the EV's just require that you take some time to work with them to obtain the sound you prefer. I've never had anything be perfect right out of the box including my Helix. I spent a lot of time with the Helix and the speakers getting the sound I liked. But the setup now along with with my JTV69 provides the swiss army knife solution for our setlist and my recording needs. Good luck with your decision.
  4. I did and really love the improvement. Helix Floor + DT25 + EV ZLX12-P + JTV69
  5. Thank you Steve There had to be way - it just eluded me. I was only looking at the global settings and it never occurred to me to edit a preset input block which is how I fixed it using th HX Editor I really never edit on the floor board so I am totally lame at using it for editing. My Helix is always connected to my Mac in the studio. I get my setup in order using the software editors and then just use it as is when I go gigging. Thanks again for the insight. Best regards
  6. See the same post on the Helix Forum Two forum members solved my problem Set the Variax setting in the Variax parameters block in the HX Editor to PER PRESET - everything works again Could not find a way to do it directly on the Helix Floor but was able to fix using the editor
  7. Thanks Gents! Just sat down in front of my Helix with my JTV69. There is no setting I could find locally using the Helix GUI to adjust any Variax input parameters. If you know where the Variax settings are on the floor board - please let me know. HOWEVER - I did fire up the HX Editor and looked at the Variax Input block. - It was set to Global and the model/pickup selector wold not work. When I changed it to PER PRESET - life was back to normal..... And even with changing presets - the model selector switch continued to work. Thanks much for your help. Everything works as it did before the 2.30 update. Best regards Art Braun
  8. Thanks to you both - I will take a look and let you know I have presets that force a given Variax model and they are not forcing the model currently. This may indicate that the global setting you mention is set wrong. As I said it worked with Helix 2.21 so the update may have changed something globally. Again - thanks I will let you know how it goes.
  9. I have a very strange problem that has surfaced after the Helix 2.30 upgrade. And everything worked with the last version of firmware which was version 2.21. I have a JTV69 at firmware revision 2.22, Helix Floor now at 2.30, and the new 2.30 HX Editor. The Helix upgrade to Version 2.30 worked fine without a hitch. But now the 5-position model selector switch no longer changes guitar models on my JTV69. Interestingly - the bank select knob works. But not the 5 position switch. If I am at preset 1-3 on the Variax and change banks - I get preset 2-3 correctly for example. But trying to use the 5-position switch inside a bank does not work. This all happens when using the JTV connected to the Helix with the VDI cable SO ---- to make surety JTV was ok I tested the guitar with my old HD500 - everything works fine. Using the same VDI cable Tested the guitar with my Firehawk floor board. Using the same VDI cable - everything worked fine I put a battery in the guitar and connected with an old tech guitar cable - everything works fine. I have concluded from this that the JTV is fine. Also - if I start Workbench HD or the HX editor or both - I can force model changes on the guitar connected with VDI to the Helix by double clicking on the model in Workbench HD or changing it in the HX editor input block. Not sure what to make of it all. I have filed a support ticket. Has anyone else seen this? Or is it just my rig. Would love to hear from anyone or especially Line 6 - I am baffled and at a total loss as it all worked perfectly with Helix 2.21

  11. Wow! Just Fantastic - Great Job Line 6!!! :) Just installed on my OS X Sierra Mac Pro machine and did a test run with my various DAW packages Worked perfectly in ProTools 12, MOTU Performer 9, Latest version of Logic, and Cubase. I was able to import all the set lists from my Helix Floor unit as well as all my impulses and insert them in some of my projects. (Usually where I was using POD Farm2.5). Simply amazing sound and matches very closely what I hear through my studio monitors with the floor board. Kudos! This is an outstanding product
  12. I use a pair of EV ZLX-12P's. Sound great live and in the studio
  13. I concur with phil_m. I have a JTV69 and the older Variax 500. With the Variax 500 I can power up the guitar and control the guitar model from the Firehawk preset. I cannot control or setup alternate tunings. I'm not sure about control of the Tone knob. I'll take a look next time I have my 500 hooked up.
  14. Hi You need to install Java on your system with Yosemite. Apple no longer includes it with their OS releases. I have a Mac Pro in my Studio with Yosemite as well. I have both a Variax 500 and a JTV69. I use Workbench HD with the JTV and the old Workbench software with my Variax 500 Note: You cannot run both versions of Workbench at the same time. Go to Apple's web site and find this file ----- JavaForOSX2014-001.dmg --- install it You should then be able to Install the older Workbench software and it should then work with Yosemite..... It is working fine on my system. Java ia also required for Line 6 Edit software if you have an older Pod and need it - I have a Pod XT Live that I have gigged with for years along with my Variax 500. The Line 6 Editor works fine also once Java is installed. I use the Pod HD500 Editor for my HD500 (again not at the same time as the old Line 6 Edit) - my newer rig is a DT25,HD500, and JTV69 Good luck! Hope you can get it all working. I have a lot of time invested in my older setup which I still use once in a while so I wanted the older software to work too. I hope you can get it to work.
  15. Updated my HD500 this afternoon with the new USB firmware, Flash Memory, and the $99 Model Pack with the Works. Everything went very smoothly.... Remember to Reset the HD500 and recalibrate the expression pedal. Love the Orange Amp! With a Tele on my JTV69 started Channeling Tom Petty. Still exploring but so far pretty pleased Thanks Line 6
