  1. Yeah that's part of the reason I initially explored the Amp + Cab block when starting my rebirth of preset creation was to save space/routing issues. However, I came across some IRs by Leon Todd that sounded really good for what I like in my tones, and went back to his IR. Good news is only need one, not 2 like I was doing with the Ownhammer stuff...so that saves me a parallel routing on Path 2 at least. I've had to do some snapshot changes in the EQ blocks to change and all, but for the OD's...I don't really change settings much, rather the type. I've really liked the Heir Apparent in front of the amps lately....but its a little too 'tight' for my lead preference, so I turn that off, and throw an 808 in front....it doesn't really change the gain structure much (maybe a hotter signal out of the 808 into the amp, and a touch more gain in the amp itself) but the sound is a bit more loose/forgiving and I think it allows my other guitar players tight rhythm tone to punch underneath my leads more. So far that's been the only issue I've had...but I think changing from parallel to serial with the amps and moving amp #2 to Path 2, should definitely help free that up. My post cab stuff is pretty simple, EQ/Reverb/Delay/Volume block....Only thing I'd be adding later might be a phaser or delay block on Path 2.
  2. that is awfully lollipop of them to just lollipop with us like that. I mean, how are we supposed to get lollipop done if we are lollipop off all the time. Man I need to get my lollipop together.
  3. Yeah that's what I was aniticipating doing...moving the 'B' amp down to Path 2.....right now, I've used path 1 as my input >Amp and path 2 as my Cab>output....but on some of my heavier presets....using an Pre EQ, Wah, OD to boost the amp, Amp, and on a 2nd path mostly the same thing....when I go to add another OD to add some different flavor for leads, I run out of dsp, and that's without song specific effects yet....and trying to use the 3Sigma guitar iR's I bought.
  4. I feel like this should be an obvious answer...but...here we go.. work on new templates/core sounds and all. I have my 'template' for single amps (about 10 presets)...then copied them into dual amps to be used to create song preset versions for live use. However, when creating my dual amp presets I'm running into dsp issues on path 1. So, being that there are some things I'll need to add for song specific effects and all.....I need to create some dsp power in my path 1.... If I run my amps in serial path flow between path 1 and 2...will that give me the same sound when using snapshots to bypass/engage blocks I need? I dont see why it wouldnt...
  5. The forum must have a language filter for the word 'a$$'.....lmao....I always wondered why I see so many 'lollipops' in peoples posts. figured it was a regional language/dialect thing with who was posting
  6. I use the actual setlists for different storage purposes...but the process flow for me, helps make sure that my volumes are even. Start with some level templates, build presets...make sure they are level...copy those into dual amp presets as needed (should remain level if template was done right), then copy those into song presets, then those into setlists for live use. setlist 1 - Core tones - This set is great for on the fly gigs, or practices to try tones out with new songs. these consist of my solo/duet acoustic presets (2) then a Single Amp and Dual Amp Template. Then my Single Amp presets (clean, breakup, classic, country, 80's crunch, 80's rock, Modern Scoop, Modern Boost, Metal) followed by Dual Amp versions (using the single amp blocks copied into the Dual Amp Template for songs that require more than one sound/amp style). My Single Amp and Dual Amp presets are named as such SA - CL (clean), SA - BR (breakup) etc, Dual Amp ones are DA - CL/BR (clean/breakup). The combinations I've made so far are on a needed basis based on Setlist 2.... Setlist 2 - Master Song library - I like to run a preset per song for my shows. So I'll take the SA/DA presets in Setlist 1 and save them here, renaming them as the Song title. So my DA - CL/RO (clean/80's rock) preset would get named Everything About You to play Ugly Kid Joe). Setlist 3 - Setlist A for my bands dancier songs - I copy the song/presets from Setlist 2 into Setlist 3 in proper setlist order. That way when I play a show, I just go from preset to preset as we kick lollipop. Setlist 4 - Same as #3, just a different batch of songs, more rock style Setlist 5 - Empty if I need it Setlist 6+ - used for storing downloaded presets and such.
  7. Or even if when copying an "Amp" block (no matter what version) when you pasted it gave you a Pasting Option: Amp Settings Only, Amp + Cab Settings, Preamp Settings. Similar to how MS Office handles pasting options. Its not a deal breaker, but would save some time if you could do that. Or, not sure this is feasible, ability to disable or enable 'stock' settings when selecting different amps. I dislike when I'm trying to do a slight breakup sound and trying amps out, and everytime I shift the amp type, have to redial in a lower gain/eq/master settings. instead of just changing amp type and keeping the current settings to make minor adjustments to.
  8. That's what I was doing in HX Edit, and it wasn't saving my parameters, I'd copy the AC block, paste it to path 1a. On path 2b, where I had the AC block originally, I'd change it to the Amp only block and it'd reset to default parameters.
  9. I use my powered wedge, which gets me about 90% dialed in to how our PA sounds....after I hear it through the main system I'll make some minor tweaks. Gain wise, EQ wise, feel wise...whatever needs to be done. Once I have some good Core Reference tones done up, next times I create new presets, I use the core tones and copy them over....using headphones I adjust what I need....but I compensate knowing my headphones aren't a great replication of our PA. So I don't tweak by my ear, I use my eyes/brain to know that "hey this sounds bassy/muffled in my headphones, but I know when put through the main system it'll clean up" vs dialing it in perfect in my headphones then once its on the main system its overly bright/thin sounding. Edited: I also do what Bob suggests and disable my Big Volume Knob from signal going to the board. that way I'm sending a consistent signal to the board and the gain structuring of my signal once it leaves my hands is consistent.
  10. Yeah I found that out last night. I wish it would keep the same settings when going between the same model and A&C > Amp Only or vice versa. Leon Todd uploaded a few of his custom IR's and they sound great to me, so I went back over my core tones I'm working on and had to split them into Amp/IR blocks. Had to copy/paste the A&C onto the other path and then click back and forth to copy the settings and delete the uneccessary block. oh well.
  11. Sorry, I'm at work and can't find the cpu resource guide.....I've been enjoying the A&C blocks to save block space in my signal paths, however, wondering if there is an advantage CPU wise to doing them together or separate blocks (assuming the same models are being used when comparing).
  12. I thought there was a way to do offsets....I'm probably wrong as I'm not a power user of the Helix...but I don't think there ways to save the offsets. not sure if that's what your thinking of. As a side note, I get your style/gigs and all, it'd be a great feature. I'd add it to ideascale as something to possibly add later on.
  13. So, I keep finding myself wanting to use one of these 2 amps for my 'go to' crunch/boosted 80's type tones....few questions? 1) Is there a reason you prefer one over the other? I see the Mod has the extra "pre" frequency...any other advantage? 2) Which Cab(s) are you pairing it with? I've been having fun with the Amp/Cab single block and the stock cabs, but I'm finding something lacking to get the sound I want....which leads to.... 3) Is there another amp that gets me 'here' but enough of a difference to warrant looking? I'm happy with my other tones. The new amps really have helped me in that low/medium gain area, and the Badonk is my go to for the Modern/Metal type tones....but its the medium/high gain staging it seems there is lots of choices and I get lost in the options.....lol
  14. yea, that's the problem with 90's sounds, for me at least, its almost band specific, and if you want to go further....song specific. lots of unique sounds where the song was almost written around the sound. Opposite in my head of how a lot of 80's tones are done.... And my fear with the Firehouse tone...lol, but it makes sense....I was trying to get away from parallel routing with my new presets, but maybe that'll have to do....thanks for the information!!
  15. Ok, first should be pretty simple given the amp types provided, so I'm sure its more just user error or lack of knowledge using the tools available. I'm looking for 2 80's rock tones, less gainy mids oriented Marshall type sound.....and a boosted tight scooped Marshall type sound. I have the Freidman IR's, but have been liking the stock cabs lately. However, I've tried the JCM800, 2204, Placatar, SLO etc....and I've played with cabs/mics a bit, but been sticking mostly with the stock ones. I'm not sure if my issues are more EQ related, or something else. I settled on the Placater Dirty, the less gainy is the BE version with everything on, except 'Saturation'. I lowered the BIAS X parameter to tighten up the amp, a touch, and raised the bias to help round out the sound. For the boosted version, I kept the same model settings, but added the HBE Switch and the Saturation Switch, and adjusted the Master/Bias X to help out, but it just doesn't feel like the tight Marshall type sound I hear. In my head I hear the guitar sound from Firehouse's first album....not usually a tone I go for, but its got what I'm looking for. Also the 3rd sound i'm going for....is more of a 90's sound. I struggle to find an average sound for the 90's, there are so many unique sounds during the rock/grunge era, I don't know if there is a 'go-to' sound for that era. Any help here? I did make a decent fuzz preset to help me cover the Bush/Collective Soul type sounds, but beyond that, I end up using my 80's sound mostly. it works, but in my head it bothers me.
  16. I appreciate your info, and I'm well aware of the rabbit hole, and know of the 'differences' between the IRs vs. stock cabs.... was more so asking if there are any stock cabs that you change from the 'default' cab that loads with the Amp. I'm at work, so I don't have the list of amp/cab combination defaults... but if you load the JCM800 amp it has a default cab....what is 'your' default cab for that amp and why, if you change it from what loads. This is really for those that use the stock cabs more than IR's. I know its all subjective, was just looking for some popular ideas that others have discovered.
  17. Ok, so there is something about the stock cabs that I like (been using Ownhammer Friedman IR's the last year or so). I've never really used the A&C block, always separated them out for more control, but really trying to simplify my signal chain and thought I'd give it a try with some simple presets. Something about the stock (default) cabs really cut through nice. My pinch harmonics seemed more punchy and the tone seemed to have more of a cut sound to it. Anyway.... Does anyone have any fave 'non-default' stock cabs they change to with certain amps? So far the amps I've used have all sounded pretty good with minimal EQ'ing (pre cut - 150hz-ish, post EQ - 125hz-7.0 Q, maybe a touch of 600hz, but nothing major. None of those are more than 1.0-2db). I've even created a 'fuzz' preset to get me that Bush/Collective Soul type sound that just doesn't sound right with regular dirt.
  18. I do not use it that way, as an EQ, however I don't wanna forget to turn it back to where I need it for 'our' pa system we use. My other guitar player already can't leave the mixer alone during practices/shows, so having an adjusted level will drive him nuts, lol.
  19. I do this on 3 of my presets as I'm singing, playing rhythm right up til I start to solo (solos have a wah as well). I set all effects to engage at 97%...so when I bring the toe back a bit it turns on my lead boost blocks (delay, OD into amp, volume boost) as well as the wah block....it works great.
  20. I have adopted this approach as well, and its been much easier to get sound guys to get a consistent level with my presets/lead boosts. I tell them its going to be a hotter signal than what they are used to and to line check the strength first then un-mute and its mostly fine. I only had one guy ask if I could use 'less signal' and I said I can but its a pain to adjust the global settings to do so, he just didn't want to use the channel pad on the mixer (rolls eyes), but once he did, he was fine.
  21. Yes this seems to be the next one, I have spent time with the amp a bit, just not enough with different cab choices as there is something with the stock cab I can't quite get right yet
  22. Not sure why, but if anyone was/is having issues with IR's I tried all the ways of getting IR's in to HX Edit (drag/drop vs. import using L6 folder/desktop) and they now they seem to be working. At least the 2 files I reimported....so not sure if something happened while reorganizing them in the IR queue or during the drag drop portion....but at least I don't have to re'cab/tweak my 90 presets for this weekend as much. Just find the cab combo I had before and reattach the appropriate slot.
  23. My go to is the Badonk Amp....cab choice is going to be biggest factor, but Badonk has the angry sound I like. I pair it with the TS808 or SD-1 in front to tighten up a bit. Also low cut with a pre-eq around 100-120hz. THat allows you to turn the bass on the amp up without getting extra flubby. If your a deeper parameters tweaker. I like to turn the Sag up 1-1.5 from where it starts, the Bias up 1.0 (depending on the Master Volume settings it may not matter) and then the Bias X down from 5 to between 4-4.5 to help 'stiffen' the amp a touch. Just going off memory....not sure its 'metal', as that varies...but its what I use for my bands heavier stuff Metallica/Godsmack....again, cab/speaker choice will make the biggest difference as well on the above stuff.
  24. I don't know how to 'technically' answer your question, as I'm not as smart as these other cats......however.....I do notices that in my headphones there needs to be a certain volume to excite certain frequencies....beyond that, I don't think it matters if that volume is at '2' or at '8' on the dial(s).
