  1. after last night, I'm convinced the issue is HX Edit and/or some combination of OS on computers. I had a corrupt preset or two a month ago or so... and started a ticket with L6. Their troubleshooting resulted in them offering a return ticket to send it in. Not possible with 8 shows in November/December each. Just can't do it. So I stumbled on a thread that someone else had where they had a solution I would use as a final attempt to solve it. IT WORKED!! Removed corrupted presets and allowed me to finish setting up my setlist/libraries as I like them. It has been great, flawless, perfect again..... UNTIL LAST NIGHT... So as I'm resuming the creation of my song specfic presets (and then copy/pasting them into a Live Setlist order). I am pulling the 'core sounds' from Setlist 1, then pasting into Setlist 2 (Master Song Library 1) as a song specific/snapshot designed preset, then copy/pasting that into Setlist 4 for Live Setlist Use. That way when we do a new setlist I can pull perfect song presets from a master library (I babble...and digress...).......However....last night while copy/pasting a single preset between setlists, I got an error and thought OH NO, its happening again. I decided I'll skip all the trouble shooting and close HX Edit, restart Helix and try again.....same result. Now I'm convinced I have a corrupt preset....so I do 'half' of the original solution, which was to just reinstall HX Edit. I did that, restarted Helix again.....and same result. Now I'm thinking for sure its a corrupt preset. I disconnect from laptop, restart Helix, and am able to finish my preset creation and setlist copy/pasting on Helix perfectly fine. No issues. I then resume the editing of my song specific presets in HX Edit and saving only into the Setlist that I'm working in (master song library 1). Today I will then use Helix to 'save' it into a different setlist for my Live Use. I'm convinced at this point there is an issue between HX EDIT and USB/Computer/Helix memory communication. In my head, I'm for sure not a programmer or software nut, but I use a lot of Microsoft Word/Excel at work....that involves lots of copy/pasting....and at times the clipboard will become full and i'll be given a warning or choice to clear it out. I wonder if something similar is happening with Helix/HX Edit or any other buffers. I'd imagine there is a temporary memory in Helix for copy/paste where it stores/shuffles blocks/presets with that feature. Maybe that temporary memory is getting used up with edits or copy pastes and only certain actions will clear it out and allow normal communication again...just a thought, probably a wrong one. But from now on, any cross setlist saving will be done on Helix directly.
  2. wouldn't the easiest approach be to make a single tweak.....test....pass = additional tweak....pass......repeat until you get the failure. When you get the failure...repeat the process starting with the 2nd block you tweaked and so on....until you rule out blocks that aren't causing it?
  3. I've had some issues with the momentary stomp switch as well for a song or two that I use. Slither...I have snapshot set for the rhythm tone, the solo is all wah, so I have my regular lead boosts trigged by the expression pedal travel at 97%. wah on....lead effects on too. Works great. But there is an adlib solo piece at the end of the main riff each time it runs before the verse, in the intro, outro etc....so I duplicate my lead sound blocks, and attach those to a stomp switch to be momentary. The whole lead phrase takes about 1.5 seconds to play, but I like it to stand out. so stepping on, and then off is a PITA. So momentary is a great option....however when I do this, if I try to use it over a whole song, some of the blocks will reverse themselves or not turn off....is this the same issue you have? Crazy Train....basically same scenario, I have Rhythm/Lead snapshots, and then for the solo runs during the chorus I like to punch it on/off with a simple push/release rather than 2 stomps. But I get the same issue. over the course of the song it will cause some blocks ot be in opposite bypass state. making it not useable in that fashion. For the Crazy train preset I have not tried attaching those effects to the Expression pedal for triggering to see if that fixes it. Easy fix for Crazy Train, doesn't solve Slither though
  4. my experience and situation is actually a bit backwards. I have a pair of Shure headphones which were as 'flat' as I could afford. Not much, they were around $60, which for me is expensive. However, they are a bit boomy and that helps me dial in things for the FOH. If nothing else I tend to compensate too much and make my tones a touch thin or too bright. Once I have a frame of reference in my head of how my headphones match up against our FOH sound, then its easier to be 'close' and adjust on the fly a bit. I make sure my headphones have just enough clarity in the high end, and sound a little thick/muddy on the low end. Then, when I save my preset, I save it with the 'cursor' on either the Preamp Block or the PEQ Block (post IR/Cab block) so that on the fly I can reach down and grab some Bass/Mid/Treb/Presence whatever I need without having to try and use the joystick. A quick turn, save, enter...and i'm back to playing, can be done pretty quickly. the hard part is reaching down there.
  5. not to hijack the thread's intent, but is there a discernable difference in the processing between the whammy 5 and Drop?
  6. yeah those were close to what I was trying. I had the pitch block first (might have caused some of my issues)…..I'm in Eb, so I think the key then would be 'A' correct? I was going +5th and I knew it didn't sound right, and Minor sounded right in my head...but given other things I had not correct, it'd make sense I couldn't make head or tails out of that setting at that point. I'll that that...thank you
  7. So I have a one off show and i'm the only player....I'd like to add the harmony during the solo to Ratt's Round & Round, and I think its in B, but not sure what settings or scale to use. I'm theory illiterate (mostly). I get some harmony stuff, when jamming and stuff by myself, but when setting blocks and scales I get lost. Where should I place the block for best sounding, and what scale/key? I thought from years ago the solo goes to B, but not sure...and I"m swamped with learning stuff....if not I'll just leave it out.
  8. I for the longest time wanted to get one of those mini half/full stack Marshalls....the ones with like 2 knobs, and they stand maybe 15" tall and run off a battery or two....turn it on, and lay a corded 57 in front of it. Just so people can see it and ask what I play through, when I pick it up and bring it off stage with one hand it will amaze them I get such great tonal variety out of just a small micro stack and a 57 laying on the floor in front of it.
  9. I gave them the links to this thread and the other one and haven't heard back from them either. HonestOpinion's steps worked for me. I've got 85+ presets now in the setlist that had the corrupt slots and no issues from what I can tell.
  10. LOL.....all kidding aside, his tone on this album is pretty different than the first few albums. I don't care much for the first 2 albums tones, but this one seem to have a fuller tone with it and I dig it. it just (I know this is contradicting, which is where I think the 2 amp thing comes from) seems his tone has a clarity and a looseness to it FYI, been drinking heavily for 20+ years now, got that part down.....lol
  11. Probably in a minority here, but I love CC's tone on this album. His rhythm tones have an almost clean but over driven sound (thought someone told me its a blend of two amps, one clean and one not) and his lead tone just seems to take it over the top. To me has a very bluesy, but rock sort of bluesy tone to it. Anyone have any ideas on setting this type of tone up?
  12. This could be related to mine as well, as I do copy my 'core template tone' into another setlist/preset slot and then edit it to make it song specific (effects, lead boosts, snapshots). I can see where that would be an issue if the Helix does have to 'rebuild' it when transferred between setlists. Maybe within a setlist it doesn't but maybe different setlists require a 'clipboard' to continue the Excel/MS analogy and even though its pasted into a new setlist/preset option its not fully pasted or saved there until reboot and when it is restarted...there are 2 versions fighting for one slot...the 'saved' one and the 'clipboard' one. To contradict that line of thinking though, initially my corrupted presets were setlist 2, presets 82/84 the very end of my Master Song List 1 setlist....not sure why it wouldnt have happened on the previous 80+ presets then...and also....once I did the resets that I went through and 82/84 were 'fixed'....why did I have 4 other presets show up with the ?diamond shape...when those ones were fine before hand. who knows. I added these 2 threads to my ticket and replied back to line 6 that the steps in the other thread have fixed my issues and that maybe they should add those steps to their troubleshooting steps....and have heard nothing back for almost a week now...so happy the issue is still resolved, but not about the lack of reply from them.
  13. Yeah my Boss GT 100 had this feature in their hardware version and pc editor version where you could assign various parameters to the 8 knobs for easier on the fly adjustments. Which I find easier than the toe tapping adjustments we can do. In my GT I assigned the Preamp A level, Preamp B level and Patch Level.....though because I used a button to create my lead boosts, any adjustment made to the patch level was immediately ruined when I stepped on my lead boost button as it overrode my adjustment and set it back to what was programmed in that menu. It'd be nice if the lead boosts/volume boosts were done in a +/- sorta way rather than a 100 > 106 way. that way no matter what your starting ending values are...the +6db would take affect from there. Which you can do through a gain block sure...but that's an extra block which I don't always have room for.
  14. yeah I had an issue with my GT 100 when I first got it. I did the same thing, I created my core tones, then a preset per song...for 60+ songs we do...using the Boss GT Studio or whatever its called. shut it down, came back the next day to play and all the preset names were jumbled....the expression pedal wasn't doing what it should have been....come to find out, their software is known to corrupt presets and there was no way to recover what I'd done the night before. ugh....I learned a hard lesson that day. the helix has been better for me and thankfully its easy to backup and restore items...but still...makes me a little worried and want to go back to the Fractal with it being rack mounted and safer from spilled drinks and such during gigs.
  15. strange...beyond my tech support abilities...have you done a search...there were a few other threads I recall with others having a similar issue, don't recall what ever became of the threads though
  16. yeah that seems weird, but if its similar to mine....HX Edit created the issue, and then even with Edit not connected to the Helix, when I powered it off/off I got a different result. So I think Edit is/was messing with the proper formatting/saving/storing of presets and once its bad, its bad...and needs to be wiped out. My own amateur evaluation of course....
  17. is it possible there is a 'chirp' (lack of a better word' that your pick/strings are making when you hit the string that it is reading? seems odd it would always be a D in that case... does it do it if you finger pick the string on the neck with tone rolled down?
  18. I use my setlists as ways to separate my thought process....Setlist 1 Core tones/templates, Setlists 2 & 3 are Master Song Presets 1 & 2 (takes Core tone presets and adapts them to songs specific needs/snapshots/effects) then Setlists 4 & 5+ are for live setlist specific order. It helps keep preset consistency with volumes. I have an easy to access excel sheet that tells me what songs use what Core Template, so if I make a change there, I don't have to revisit all my song presets, only the ones that used that template and then copy/paste as needed. Its worked great for me.
  19. There is another thread that helped me....I think the issue is coming more from HX Edit. I followed the steps in that thread which are basically..... back up your 'good' presets individually... do a 5 & 12 button power reset (clears presets/setlists/IR lists), they should say new 'preset' uninstall HX Edit Reinstall HX Edit package reinstall 2.82 (or whatever version you like) firmware import your good presets where you want them this seems to have worked for me. I had 2 presets that were corrupt and giving me errors, I thought I had it fixed, but when I rebooted I then had 4 presets that seemed bad. Tech support has 'never seen this issue before' but as a last ditch effort I tried these steps as they worked for others in that other thread....Seems to have worked so far...I'll find out more tonight. I think the issue is the interaction between HX Edit and the Helix somewhere that it isn't exchanging data correctly or fully and causing issues when things are saved into the helix slots.
  20. Update....went through this process....seems to have worked..I dont 'see' any corrupted presets...will confirm the next few days. So couple questions: 1) is it believed that HX Edit maybe isnt updated correctly and is causing the issues when saving/importing presets/setlists? 2) Is it ok if I share this process in my ticket if it is indeed a solution so maybe they can be made 'more' aware of any issues that are involved?
  21. so I have a thread with similar issues.....I've done the 7&8 reset, and that fixed the presets 84/86 in Setlist 2 being unusable....however I then had 4 presets that showed up as a diamond symbol with a ? in the middle....and the dsplay on the helix is unreadable in the upper right 2/3's. I'll try your fix here and see if it solves it entirely, otherwise its another trouble ticket to send it back and back to GT100 land for a few weeks....
  22. update #2.....I jumped the gun apparently.... working through creating song specific presets...I'm through 26 of them...and I see at the bottom of my preset scroll area that presets 44/46/49/51 all have a 'diamond with a ? inside it' in the name field. I tried copying a preset over the top and got the same errors as before, screen goes blank and requires a power reset of the Helix....but boots up the same ways. When I try and click on one of those presets i get a screen on my helix where the upper right 2/3's of the screen is just a grey scrambled mess....gonna update my ticket, but something is definately not right....
  23. So...update....I finally had time again to try and (worst case scenario) factory reset the device and just restore my good 'core' setlist. I see that buttons 6 & 7 would restore presets/setlists to factory so I tried that first... It worked as far as allowing my corrupted slots to now be overwritten, and I imported my 'Core' setlist just fine in Setlist 1 slot. However, I now have the 'lag' that I had when I first switched to 2.8...that was fixed (i believe) in the 2.82 release....?? Any ideas...I step on a preset/snapshot and the helix audio is there, but visually its about a second behind
  24. Yeah I agree, here is the response I got from my latest support ticket exchange: "Hi Jason, I honestly have not seen this issue before with any other Helix's. If you would like us to take a look at the setlist issue when you send in your Helix for a repair, then I don't mind doing that for you. I would just need to know what setlist you're having the issue on. You're technically out of warranty since the Helix was originally purchased over 2 years ago, but I can make an exception for you this time around." Cool, that they would be willing to make an exception, but I've got 0 weekends free in the meantime to be without. There was a thread not too long ago about a guy stating that HX Edit was causing his presets to be corrupt, as he can roll them back to previous firmware and they are fine, but as soon as he upgrades to 2.82 and the reimports them....and some other things, they become corrupt. He has repeated the process several times I guess and L6 refuses to acknowledge his information or something. Seems I'm sorta going down a similar path. I'm not really currently using the setlist that has the corrupt presets, but I'd like to. I'm about to do a wipe again, and only import the core presets that I know are good into set 1 indvidually and leave the other setlists wiped and work that way. I could technically use that setlist and not get to presets 84/85, however it makes me wary to put that much work into song specific presets and have them go bad as well.
  25. I did not know about ctrl S, but glad to know that. That saves me the frustration of the OP grievance....BUT.... I also love the new feature as I have 'core' sounds that I use as templates and then create song specific presets from there...it sucks having to undo song changes when I hit save previously by accident.
