Jtv69 HD Firmware

Misunderstanding. I didn't say putting acoustic guitar strings on the JTV... I mean't a heavier set of electric git strings. :) -

Thanks for your help fellas. :) I have a pair of EV ZLX12P's and Alto Truesonic 12" and 10" powered speakers. Yes, to be fair I should start an acoustic patch from scratch and see what happens. There is one annoying aspect to modeled acoustics played on electric guitars.... is that the piezos.... and roland GK pickups as well with their VG acoustic modeling... really pronounce fret noise of the strings.... unless of course you use heavy gauge strings and higher acoustic guitar type action. That I don't want to do because I do want the playability and action of an electric. I have a new Warmoth neck I need to attach which may help somewhat. However, outside of feeling and playing much better than the stock neck, them strings still want to be rattling against the frets with a low electric type action. OTOH, since I have many other electrics that cover all the Variax's models, I could set the JTV69 up as more focusing on acoustic models with heavier strings and a bit higher action......but... I dunno, lol I always hated how the typical piezo pickup on acoustic guitars sounded...thin, tinny, brittle. At least that's how my acoustics purchased several dog lifetimes ago. However this past year I bought a couple Epiphone acoustic/eclectrics and damn if they've really come a long way in making an amplified acoustic sound pretty much exactly how an acoustic sounds -

I dunno.... I did buy this variax/hd combo more for the acoustic and alt tunings thing. I do like the electric models but currently in agreement with those that say the acoustic models don't sound very good. In a weird way my Roland VG8 acou models come off sounding better..... and that's an 'old' box. My own acoustic/electric guitars sound pretty good through the HD500x. I imagine the acoustic model presets need to be tweaked in the same way that all the electric guitar presets need to be, being that presets in general are regarded as awful by most in these kinds of devices (every manufacturer is guilty of this, not just L6) In that case maybe I need to tweak the acoustic patches as well..... ya know what.... I should try the Variax straight into powered pa speakers... no HD.... and listen to the acoustic models straight out of the guitar. Theoretically that should give me the pure modeled tone from the Variax rather than going into some HD acoustic preset that's probably just awful in the first place. -

Was there some kind of technical reason as to why L6 'broke' the acoustic models in 2.6? -

You think L6 intentionally crippled the new variax sounds maybe to make the Helix ones sound better? I think the electric guitars sound good but the acoustics are kinda awful. I'd hate to have to go 'backwards' to earlier versions to have better acoustic guitars. T'aint natural. :P -
I want to be able to affect changes in my tone at the sub atomic level micro second to micro second during a song.. Just think how much better that would sound! :P

There's always a period, be it years or decades, where tech has lots of room to be improved but then plateaus. This is especially true with music tech because the last element in the chain is the human hearing system and until the singularity comes when humans are no longer humans and sensations have been enhanced a million fold, if you can't get perfectly satisfying tone from what's contemporarily available, you got psychiatric, not gear, problems. :D Sure, I'll take a Helix... for 500 bucks. Wake me when its being blown out. :P . Guaranteed there'll be complaining about how Helix sounds in the coming years, hehe

Maple Neck for JTV-69
Topaz replied to davidb7170's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
130 bucks might be worth taking a file to those frets, shave the back and maybe it'll play better. ;) I tried to like mine cuz, up till this here neck, different neck shapes/sizes/frets never bothered me. This one beat me... I bought a replacement. I had a 69 tele and have a late 70's strat and those necks were/are fine. -
Oh, I believe you. :) This is what gets my goat.. no where in the descriptions of a set of tuners does it say it comes with the plate while there are some other sets that DO state they come with the UMP, leading someone like me to infer that if its not in the product description, then it doesn't come with it. So basically I wound up paying full retail by buying directly from hipshot so I was sure of what I was getting. HOWEVER.... Hipshot's own product description doesn't say something like '6 in line tuners with mounting plate included'...... noooooo, it says 'Tuner UPGRADE Kit for 6 In Line'.... again, implying to my brain, that its an optional item..... although in its own description says that this supposed upgrade kit comes FREE with the UMP. So what am I to think.... they describe it as a set of tuners upgrade kit..... which would mean that the UMP itself is the bloody upgrade!! But apparently not, because the UMP comes FREE!!! So why the hell is it being called an upgrade kit in the first place???!!! Grrrrrrr LOL Edit: Hipshot kindly canceled my order through them and so I bought a set from Amazon. :)

Thing is that notice of delivery times is rather ambiguous. 'Painted items'? What does that mean exactly, lol. Are standard sort of neck finishes a 'paint job', or does that refer to guitar bodies? Or are necks considered hardware, lol. I forgot to check out Mighty Mite. Was gonna go for Stew Mac but chickened out as them being much less expensive and therefore might need fretwork after the fact. Btw, I sprung for stainless steel frets. Never used that before. Might be interesting. Fingers crossed, hehe

lol, right. think i would've not got the 69 had i known this neck was 'better'

I think the 500 sounds a thousand times better than my XTLive if that means anything. Get an Alto Trusonic 12 for 199 if budget is important

Great heads up. Didn't even know these staggered things existed. Amazon has good pricing for the tuners with the UMP plate. Unfortunately just for a few left handed tuners for some reason oh fer heavens sake... left handed tuners are for normal right-handed fender style guitars and right tuners are for lefties?? oh crap.... i just noticed the stock 69 tuners are also staggered. DOH! So the Hipshots are even shorter?
