Add me too.... I found the difference between my XTLive and the 500X like night and day

Whenever I've bought some electronic device for a hundred bucks and the sales person wants to hit me up for a $50 extended warranty I tell them that for a hundred bucks, if I got even a years good use out of it, it paid for itself. OTOH, if I'm spending thousands or tens of thousands on an electronic and/or mechanical device, it better be backed up guaranteed warranty fixed for a good long time.
-
I sympathize. If manufacturers are going to stuff complicated computer electronics in $1,000+ guitars (13pin midi guitars are in this group too) people need to know such instruments are guaranteed to perform in those capacities for a veeeeeeerrrry long time. Personally I wouldn't buy variax's or midi guitars for just as a normal functioning electric guitar.... there are tons of other guitars that I'd like much better to spend money on. IOW, if a Variax stops doing variaxing, it's bloody pointless

I have 2 EV ZLX-12P's and 1 Alto TS10A and they all sound great. Probably need 2 of the 10" Alto's in a band though to push enough volume over a loud drummer. Plus side is that these brand budget powered pa speakers have upped the game cost/sound-wise. They really sound excellent, imo. Downside is.... well... overseas budget made devices. I'm fairly new to the 500X and haven't explored it in depth but I assume, unlike the XTLive I also own which sounds like crap trying to pair it with, say, the power section of a tube amp/4x12 setup, the 500's are designed to work that way as well. I mean from what I gather you can use just the pre's on the 500 then into most any power amp and speakers like it does with the DT amps and it should sound good.

Variax standard sunburst: Black or White -pickups and pick guard?
Topaz replied to ColonelForbin's topic in Variax Standard
If it was just a regular guitar, I suppose the white or black. However being that it does acoustic instruments sunburst seems more appropriate -
Out of curiosity, to do the global reset thing that's recommended after a FW update, you hold down the left navigator arrow while powering on. Is the display supposed to show anything regarding that's its being reset or just what I see... the normal power on screen? Point I'm getting at is it could have one wondering whether or not anything happened at all.

That's a legit point, but its all relative as well. First world has first world problems in context to those lucky to belong to first world. ;)

I've asked the same thing about the links in another thread. Maybe I should bill Line 6 for the time wasted trying to find info (like a manual addendum pdf for the 2.6 update that apparently doesn't exist) by having to click on every g****mn link on the site looking for it. Is it the end of the world, no. However, something as simple as having a 2.6 new feature manual available at time of update release, and linked for right in front of everyone's faces is just pathetic. C'mon Line 6.... instead of belittling your customers, you're a big enough company to get stuff like this right in the first place. Not doing so shows a distict lack of professionalism

I have an 500X and I'm looking for some kind of pdf or release notes or something about using the new features but I'll be dipped in a bucket of pus if I can find anything. Whats confusing as well is that if I click on the link (be it the one at the top or the one with the pictures on the bottom) to find out about the 2.6 update, it just takes you to the 500X product page and says nothing about 2.6 on it

That's what I'd like to know as well

One thing that bothers me about guitars jammed with electronics
Topaz replied to Topaz's topic in Variax Standard
Yeah, I bought ASYS2 ways back and it would drive me nuts hours tweaking and what sounded good sounded bad the next day and also finding out what did sound good got lost at band volume which required more tweaking. However once I did get a handle on it, man, I get/got some really really damn sweet tones out of that amp. clean to high gain. The XTLive I got some years later....meh. This HD500X does sound a million times better than the XTL though imo. -

That's encouraging to hear. Since I posted I looked into some other threads and there's a concern whether or not this new standard is guts put into the cheapest of the yammy pacifica line. Perhaps I will go the extra couple hundred for a JTV-59. I know those are made in Korea, but mentioning Indonesia as well, I took a chance this past holiday season went kookoo and bought a bunch of Epiphone acoustics and electrics made there and I gotta tell you the quality is absolutely fantastic and inexpensive. I also just bought an Epi LP Goldtop Standard and, heresy upon heresy, feels and plays as well or better than my near $3K Gibson LP Traditional, which I do love so much. -

I'm not a normal cell phone user either. I bought a $30 Tracfone and every 3 months buy a $20 60 minute card to keep the account going. So far I've racked up over 2,000 minutes available for me to use if I had to. -
I'm interested in getting one of these new standards. However, I'm leery about buying rather expensive instruments that contain all these computerized type circuitry above and beyond the normal 'simple' circuitry that, of course, is easily and inexpensively fixed. I have a Godin xtSA (a roland 13 pin midi guitar with a piezo bridge) that recently developed circuitry problems. This guitar has something like 4 or 5 circuit boards. To get it fixed outside the warranty period is not cheap. So this is my issue... guitars with complicated electronics that can go dead and useless in the blink of an eye as opposed to a 'normal' instrument that'll last many many generations. Manufacturers of these types of instruments need to warranty a helluva lot longer. Now I don't know Line 6's warranty offhand but never mind a $1K guitar, but can you imagine buying a $3-4K USA made Variax or other expensive computerized guitar and it failed after a few years and the warranty was up? Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiit

And I thought it was just me. We ought to form a club. :D

Good to know, Iknowathingortwo. Thanks. :) The crash report said stuff about kernels Welp, I couldn't resist and loaded up all the new model packs. Time to play I reckon. :D

Thanks for that. I could use that info for my mini for future reference. Yeah I did hardware resets on my macbook once when my usb ports were going kooky and that fixed that. It is a possibility that there may have been a small static charge when I plugged back in. I'll get that today as the air is still a bit cold and dry. However I was just sitting in my chair and not moving around plus I probably would've grounded myself as my body was already touching metal gear surfaces at the time I re plugged the HD in. So I guess it could be one or the other at fault. And yeah, doing it again and it working as its supposed to eases my mind, lol Now where the heck to I find proper manual addendum for the new features. Don't think the manual itself that can be downloaded is updated and for some reason clicking the line to the 2.6 update just takes me to the HD product description page and says nothing about 2.6 that I can see
-
I connected my HD500X to my computer (Mac) to update everything that needed to.... Monkey, check... License manager, check....USB firmware, check.... However, after the 2.6 update was installed and I was prompted to turn power off on the HD then turn on again after a bit..... when I put the power plug back it, it immediately shut down my computer. C'mon now Line 6... WTF is that about???!! When it restarted and monkey opened it shows it was installed but I can't trust that. I assume I can try installing again as its an option OK, worked properly the second try.

LOL... NOW they work. They weren't at the time I posted earlier. Must be some sort of delay in the time-space continuum. Perhaps I'm traveling closer to the speed of light than line 6. :D But yeah, there's a definite change in how the sticky post message looks... its been altered from earlier. I guess the old forums have been trashed several times over. I've been registered since 2006. Now I'm 'just startin', lol
-
Hmmm... Brian May, Brian Setzer, Jimmy Page and Keith Richards don't work.... still. I want to clarify a mistake I made. I forgot to say that not all of the videos didn't work, just those named above. I get the ol'.. 'this video is unavailable, sorry about that' message. IIRC, they didn't work from Line 6's youtube channel either but now I just checked and they do load from there, so that resolves the problem to a certain extent
-
I own several pod versions but ya know what... my AXSYS 2 212 still gets some pretty damn nice tones above all else tube or modeler. :D
-
LOL, yeah... kinda pathetic a sticky to help users have videos that don't work. Been like that at least as far as I know since I got a 500X last november
