POD HD Complete Promo - Is this just for new customers
skybone replied to Doncymbiotic's topic in POD HD
Take a look at this thread from the Helix forum: http://line6.com/support/topic/19073-helix-vs-hd500x-ab/ Hopefully, someone at Line6 will take note and not discontinue the HD500x. -
It's probably been said already, but you are far better off using the USB cable for connecting to your PC for recording, or if you don't want to do that, then there are plenty of other available USB Recording Interfaces that will capture the sounds far better then a cable from the headphone jack. You just use a standard USB Printer Cable. Just make sure you download all the drivers, Line6 Monkey, & HD500x Edit first.

POD HD Complete Promo - Is this just for new customers
skybone replied to Doncymbiotic's topic in POD HD
Unfortunately for those of us who already own a POD HD, this offer is for those who have bought, or are going to buy, a POD HD between 1st Sept & 31st Oct 2016. I'd post the link, but the site isn't letting me. Got to the Line 6 home page, scroll to the bottom and click on "20th Anniversary Promo's" -
No idea as to why or how, but I'd try to re-flash the HD before anything else. When it asks if you want to keep any settings, click "No" (Factory Reset). Hopefully, you have backed up all your patches prior to the firmware update.

I would disagree with that statement, as I believe that you can "gift" a model pack to someone, with just their email address or account username. Accessed through "My Account" (Support / Account Services / My Account).

I had exactly the same issue, being in the UK. Going onto the Line6 site, click on the "Globe" icon (top right corner), a drop down menu will appear, allowing you to select Germany. Once you've done that, select "Webstore", pick the Model Packs you want, and that should let you then purchase them. Thing is though, the price is still shown in US$, and the exchange rate will vary depending on the method of payment used (PayPal / Credit Card / etc.). Took me a while to figure out... :D

You need to download the drivers from Line6 (or download Line6 Monkey). I had a similar issue when I upgraded to Win 10, and it didn't recognise my HD. Installed the drivers, then plugged the HD in, works fine.

Reflash the unit using Line6 Monkey, but when it asks if you want to keep your patches, click on "No". Don't know if you get "bonus" material, but it will restore the unit to the factory presets & give you 2 banks of "User" patches, where you can create new patches or tweak preset patches.

Glad you found it useful. :)

I never tried the Bass PODxt Live, I briefly owned a bean Bass PODxt, but sold it because I was achieving a better bass sound from my red guitar bean PODxt. And yes, I did A/B them into a DAW. I bought my PODxt Live second hand, and bought the Bass Expansion pack for it. I used a Zoom B3 at the time, and was looking to expand on it's "limitations" (only 3 effects at once). The POD X3 was high up my list, but the second hand prices were relatively high compared to the PODxt. I had also heard that the Bass PODxt had limited memory etc. As I play guitar as well, it made sense to go for the guitar version & add the Bass Pack. From what I understand, the PODxt models were also used on the POD X3. The best way I can describe the difference between the sounds from the HD being "better" than the xt/X3, is that they have a far more "definition" (High Definition), the touch response is also far better and the effects work on the subtlest of settings. It simply sounds more like you're in the same room with the amp. I was mainly looking to go ampless on my bass rig, so good amp models were important. The XT models sounded better than the B3 models. Unfortunately, the B3 effects sounded better than the XT's effects to my ears. I started looking around for a replacement which had better effects, but was also a great amp modeler. Fortunately, my searches kept coming back to the HD500x. When I got it, I set it up so that I could A/B it against the PODxt Live, same guitar, same amp, same settings etc. and all into the same audio source. Needless to say, on that analysis, I kept the HD500x.

Agreed, the X3 Live comes with all the model packs loaded, as well as including patches for Vocals & Acoustic guitars. Thing is though, both the PODxt & POD X3 are discontinued, the HD500x is still a current model. It sounds even better than either the XT or X3, and although they had more amp & cab models available, the HD is still an improvement on them with only a handful of amp & cab models. Again, these days, I am primarily a bass player, though I do bring out the old electric guitar every now and then. I am more than happy with the sounds that I get from my bass and my HDx, the effects sound great, and there are a ton of connectivity options on the HD500x as well. I would recommend that the OP gets a POD HD500x instead of these older models. If they have the available funds, then a Helix would be better still, but the HD500x is still a very capable piece of equipment.

TBH, you would be better off going for the guitar version of the PODxt / Live rather than the bass version, it not only comes with the FX Junkie expansion pack already loaded, but has better expansion capabilities (or so I am lead to believe from what I've read in magazines/online/etc). I had a PODxt Live for a while, with the Bass Expansion Pack, but sold it to buy the HD500x. The HD500x does sound so much better in comparison to the PODxt. I did an A/B comparison when I first got the HD, same amp & cab model, same settings etc., and the HD just sounded head & shoulders above the PODxt. I still have my "old faithful" PODxt bean (with the Bass Expansion loaded), but the HD is the "go to".

There are plenty of guitar amps already modeled on the HD500/500x, it's true... however, even with the HD Bass Pack, there are still only 4 different Bass Amp models (5 if you include both the "Normal" & "Bright" channels of the SVT) & 4 cabs. Come on Line6, how about a bit more support for the Bass Players???????? :D

Another vote for Line6 Monkey & HD500x Edit, however for either to work, you also need to download the drivers, so that the respective USB ports can talk to one another. Unfortunately, just plugging your HD500x into your PC doesn't work (well, it didn't on my PC). The PC recognizes that something's there, but not what it is. You have to go to the Downloads page and select which software you need for your device & the OS you're running. http://line6.com/software/index.html

Sounds like the likeliest culprit. Turn them off while you practice... ;) :D
-
I find it annoying that you can't put HD Edit into "full screen" mode, especially when some of the "drop down" menu's only drop down, cutting off a few of the options on the effects menu's at the bottom of the screen.
-
Where do you play your guitar while plugged into your HD? Are you sat in front of your PC? Is it a laptop or desktop? Turn so that the bridge of the guitar is at 90 degrees to the PC. What else is powered from where you plug your HD into? If there are other electrical loads being run off the same source, it can cause an audible "buzzing", also if you're running it from an extension lead. Try turning unnecessary items off (not on standby either - that still draws current).
-
The Bass Expansion pack is only for the PODxt range, with the POD HD range, the only applicable pack is the HD Bass Pack, but to be fair, the 3 amps in that pack (plus 2 cabs) are excellent. As primarily a bassist myself, if you can't find a great sound with these 3 (or the Bassman, B15 or HiWatt models in the standard model pack) then I'll be amazed. There's even some good guitar amps on there as well! ;) :D

More Bass amp HD models please Line6.

New to Line 6 / HD500x - Best Vids to Start Learning?
skybone replied to Mike_Rogers's topic in POD HD
Just dive in and experiment, however, HD500x Edit is definitely the easiest way to edit patches. -
But didn't the PODxt Live come with the FX Junkie pack loaded on as standard? It did with the Guitar PODxt Live.

See what you mean now, using the PC Editor whilst not having the HD plugged in.

Try selecting Windows 8 or 8.1.

I have HD Edit on both a laptop and a Windows "convertible" 2 in 1 laptop/tablet. Works absolutely fine on either machine.
