Sorry, but I'm confused by this. You're saying that you can't use patches that use model packs unless you're plugged into a PC? You need a PC to enable the model pack in the HD, but once that's done, you can use it as you would the standard model set. Press the "Save" button, and it calls up the Save screen, you can overwrite the existing patch with the edited one, or you can save it to another location using the first 2 knobs under the screen, as well as being able to rename it. Press "Save" again to save it to memory.

If it were me, I'd go for the Audio Interface, but it depends on your priorities.

Oh dear, looks like I'm going to have to delete all those patches I've created that sound great through headphones, Hi Fi's, PA's etc. because I've not done things as the manual says I should.

Have you tried it? Give it a try and then tell me it can't be done.

Nope, I mean the "Channel Volume", my favourite patch at the moment has Gain at 40% & Channel Volume at 55%. Dig in, and it gives a really nice growly tone with a hint of grit, ease back and the sound cleans up nicely. Push the Channel Volume up higher, and it'll distort even easier, just like on a real live valve/tube amp.

Instead of using a guitar amp/cab sim for the dirty signal, try using a bass amp/cab. I've always found that starting subtle and building from there works when adding effects to a signal chain. However, if you're after a seriously "meaty" distorted sound, run your channel volume high instead of sticking a pedal in front, especially on valve/tube amps. To get the smoothest, creamiest valve distortion sounds on real amps, turn up the power amp section. Turning up the Gain & hitting the front end pre-amp, sounds far too grainy. Try the Normal SVT with the Channel Volume upwards of 50% and "dig in".

Should be available at any IT equipment reseller. All you need is a standard, generic USB Printer cable, which should not set you back too much at all.

Indeed, leave tweaking to backstage or preferably home or rehearsals, not on stage. Would you start tweaking your pedals and amps part way through a set? If you were in the audience, would that kind of thing just annoy you?

Well, you could also argue that the POD v2.0 outlived both the XT & X3, models which were brought out to replace it. I get the impression that the Amplifi & Firehawk ranges are meant for slightly different markets than the HD range (aimed more at iOS & Android platforms), and that the Helix is aimed at a slightly more "upmarket" sector (more amps, more effects, more tweakability, etc.). The HD X isn't too old, so we might see some further developments before Line6 develop a product to replace it, however, I still own & use a bean PODxt I bought when they first came out 12 years or so ago (admittedly it's being used less now I'm using the HD, but it still works and sounds good).

If You Were Going To Use The Hd500x Effects Loop, What Pedals Would You Add?
skybone replied to boyce89976's topic in POD HD
Definitely the EHX Small Stone. -
I had the same problem, until I downloaded & installed the HD500x drivers first, then the pc recognised the HD500x.

I think Pianoguyy summed it up pretty well.

POD XT LIVE to POD HD500 - Model packs
skybone replied to marcelorivera's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Depending on the amp & cab models used of course, you can always fire up the XT & Line6 Edit and the HD500x & HD500x Edit and simply "copy" your settings over onto the HD500x (assuming that is you have 2 USB cables & 2 USB ports available). It might take a bit longer than doing it with a few clicks of the mouse, but it could be a worthy experiment to see if the XT's settings sound just as good on the HD. -
POD XT LIVE to POD HD500 - Model packs
skybone replied to marcelorivera's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Having done that exact transition last month (xt Live to HD500x), you can't use the XT Packs on the HD. However, the HD does sound a lot better than the XT (I still have my old faithful "bean" XT), and there was a "flash" sale recently on the HD Expansion Packs. -
Try posting this in the POD HD forum section. This section is for older versions of POD than the HD. :)

Adding packs to my XT PRO
skybone replied to KF5TJC's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Yup, just make sure you download the latest version of Line6 Monkey from the Line6 site, plug your XT into your laptop, sign in & away you go. IIRC, you can get to the Store via Monkey, however, depending upon which territory your based in, you may need to open your "local" Line6 Store (from the Line6 Homepage, click on the "Globe" icon in the top right corner & select your territory - US is default). -
If you have the DT25 already, then why not go for the HD500x? As has already been mentioned previously, the HD500x will add extra flexibility into your rig that will allow you to experiment with numerous amps & effects. The only downside (if you can call it that) will be editing patches and storing them where you can access them easily. Again, there is something very special about an analogue rig, but if you need to cover a lot of musical bases, then it makes sense to go with the option that gives you more flexibility. When the "flexible" option sounds as good as the HD's, then you can't go far wrong (unless you go with a Helix of course! :D ).

Some great suggestions & ideas coming through. :)

Does the separate tuner correlate with the PODxt Live tuner? Do the tuners in PODxt & the POD HD correlate? Reset them all back to 440Hz and try them out.

Re. Cubase, IIRC, if you have an interface that can record more than one channel at a time, you should be able to record a dry track at the same time as an effected track from your POD, if it has a "dry" / un-effected output. I am unsure whether you can do this from the POD's USB connection. Alternatively, you could always cheat, and simply copy your first guitar track onto a new track, allowing you to pan one left & the other right.
-
Surely you can also pan Amp A right & Amp B left (or vice versa)? That's an old studio trick, split the signal between two amps, & pan them left & right. Like I said, I'm only just scratching the surface with the HD, but it's full of tweak-a-bility and great sounds.

I think the key to any effects on the HD is "subtle", they're that good. Managed to have some time on it with my guitar last night, plenty of patches to play with, but found a few nice ones and can see a lot of tone tweaking ahead. Duncann, when you say an "amp & 2 cabs", how do you set that up? Use Amp B with a second amp with the same settings as Amp A? Still experimenting, but I think I'm only just scratching the surface with it just now. Got a couple of nice sounding SVT patches so far, and just starting to experiment with effects. The intent is to use it as a DI in the band situation, but it's early days with both the HD and the band, so we shall stick to experimenting & tweaking for now!

Have you loaded the latest drivers off the website? When I got mine, the computer didn't recognize the HD500x until I'd loaded the drivers, even with Line6 Monkey installed.
