Before returning it I would experiment with the Master Amp DEP parameter. I've heard that some people find the default value too high. Try reducing it.

Maybe you could place the Rocktron in the empty bottom space of your rack, or the HD Pro in the empty top place, leaving two empty spaces between the Rocktron and the HD Pro?

Use the Edit program.

One other thing to note: the looper footswitch display shows what the looper setting WILL BE if you press the switch. In other words, when the Looper display says PRE, the looper is currently in POST mode. Punkyboy, from your descriptions it sounds like this may be a key point. I think you may have PRE and POST confused, which is understandable based on the ambiguous display.

To get both Mags and Models you need to use the VDI connection. Then in Inputs you select Input1=Variax and Input2=Variax Mags (or vice versa). The Variax selection provides the Model and the Variax Mags provides..... you guessed it.

My Pod HD Pro doesn't get that hot, and I haven't heard similar reports in the past. You may have an electrical issue in your setup. Are you using the external psu that came with your Pod HD Pro to power it?

To elaborate on what I think duncann is suggesting, you could arrange your HD presets so that they correspond to your Rivera's fixed mapping. In other words, if you want to send a PC change to program#7 upon selecting a preset, place that preset in Bank 2 preset D. Each time you select that preset it will send the desired PC message on the specified midi channel. Of course, this will limit you to program numbers 0 to 63 on the Rivera and you won't be able to send the same PC command from two different presets.

You mentioned that you connect the Hd500X XLR outputs to your Komplete Audio 6. I presume that is your audio interface to your computer? That's what you could use for recording. If you want to record directly using the Hd500x ask your audio interface, then you connect it using usb to your computer, and disconnect your Audio 6 device.

I certainly did not mean to be condescending. No, there is no such detailed information provided by Line 6. The only way to get it (unless someone wants to manually compile it for you) is by the method described here. The amount of detailed information in a Setlist is huge. 64 presets, each with dozens or hundreds of parameters depending on the complexity of the presets. And the detailed settings potentially change with every firmware release. Now compound that by the number of product lines and models that Line 6 makes. I think their approach of making this available through electronic files (presets) and tools (editors), rather than redundant text files, makes perfect sense. Any user can use these tools to create their own text files, in whatever amount of detail they desire. What would actually be nice is for Line 6 to develop some reporting utilities within the Editor, or as standalone tools. Some users in the past have gone to the trouble of attempting to reverse engineer the preset files in some product lines to create the sort of text based description you ask for. However, those efforts were rather rather short lived.

That's just not possible. Equivalent question in networking terms is: "How do make it so my non-wireless modem recognizes my non-wireless computer without connecting the Ethernet cable?" In both cases, the cable is the only way the devices can recognize each other. Please explain what you are trying to accomplish. You may not need to have your computer recognize the Pod HD500X.

Here's what that section of the manual says about it. Looks to me like you can set the HD500 to send on only one channel. MIDI Channel (Knob 1): Sets the “System†MIDI Channel that POD HD500X utilizes for both receiving and sending MIDI communication via the MIDI DIN Input/Output. Choose any individual Channel 1 - 16, or “Omni†for all Channels.* This is a global setting.

When in FS Mode=ABCD you can send midi messages using FS1-4, but not FS5-8. Sorry - I don't have enough experience with the HD500 midi to answer you question about channels. Hopefully someone else will be able to clarify that here. Best of luck with whatever equipment you decide to use.

Again, I am not trying to influence you.... just want to make sure you are clear about the options.... You began this thread asking for someone to post info on the Variax setlist. Someone did that, in the form of the entire downloadable set list file. You can download just the new HD500 Edit program to your computer and inspect the full details of the setlist without connecting your HD500 device. There is NO need to download or install firmware on either your HD500 or JTV. The risk of damaging anything to do with your gigs is nil. After answering your own questions about the Variax setlist you can delete the setlist file and uninstall the Edit program. Seems to me your question and request has been fully answered. But if you don't want to do it after all, well that's up to you.

The latest firmware includes a new Variax setlist. I think it's a terrific set of presets on its own, and even better if you have a Variax guitar.
-
I was able to use the link to download the Variax setlist and then open it with the latest version of HD500 Edit. Note that you will probably need the latest editor. Heven't tried it, but the old version likely won't work with the new setlists. You can see all the details you are wanting in the edit program without your HD device connected.
-
The manual should clarify that detail for you.

Actually I think they roll a single die. 1=Monday, 2=Tuesday, etc. No release on Sunday because, well, it's Sunday.

The MIDI implementation is described in Appendix B of this document: http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434c6fb051e03e8ab63dc/application/pdf/POD%20HD500X%20Advanced%20Guide%20-%20English%20%28%20Rev%20A%20%29.pdf I am not completely familiar with using the HD as a midi controller, but I believe the device automatically sends a fixed PC message with every preset change. The message data (program number) in this case is fixed between 0 and 63 and corresponds to the bank/preset number from 1A=0 to 16D=63. In this respect, you are unable to do what you want - send an arbitrary PC# on preset switching. However, you can also assign a PC message to a footswitch, specifying a different program#. So, with a bit of tap dancing (I know you don't want to do it) you can switch a preset on the HD500X, and then tap a footswitch to override the automatic PC change message specifying the undesired program # with another PC message specifying the desired program # . NOTE: Other more experienced midi users - please correct me if I am wrong.

Different strokes for different folks, or.... No good deed goes unpunished.

Actually, the thread was misinterpreted and hijacked from the beginning. The title talks about poor attire during dress-up activities. Don't know why we got all technical about it.
-
I wasn't suggesting you use the new firmware for a gig. Just pointing out the option to update, test/play, then roll back. It's an option, not a recommendation.
-
You can roll back to previous firmware anytime if you don't like the update.
-
If you have v1.04 then you have the latest. If you are referring to the display in Monkey, that shows you the currently installed firmware and the latest available. So if they are both the same that is normal and means you are up to date.
-
Have you done the necessary global settings reset and pedal calibration after updating firmware? Also, make sure you choose to replace existing presets during the update.
