Yes, ideascale. Will do. Just was wondering if there was anyone out there interested in the same. At least I found two that aren't. ;-) Thanks for the info!

Woulda thought more people would be on this one, particularly after three years. Having selectable multiple outputs instead of just the blanket "everything" multiple outputs would be of great value for my live setup particularly now that I've added a Powercab 112+. I use USB for iPad audio sent FOH via 1/4" and don't want my guitar signal going to that output, just want my guitar going to XLR to FOH and AES to PC112+. Can do the split path workaround for a lot of my stuff but some of my presets have too much going on and I can't spare a path. One can dream...

No Variax action on new JTV59
cfhmonkey replied to cfhmonkey's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Opened support ticket. JTV in transit back to Line 6 Central for medical attention. -
That's the plan then once I find some time. Thanks, rd2rk!

I've got one path on the Helix with the input set to Variax and the output set to PC112 FRFR - this is my acoustic chain. Have a second path on the Helix with the input set to Variax mags as input and output set to PC112 Speaker modeling - this is my electric chain. I use snapshots on the Helix to switch between the two. I use gain blocks at the front of each chain to do so. Snapshot one for acoustic is top path at 0dB while the lower path is at -120dB, snapshot two for electric is the reverse. Maybe there is a better way to do this? Possibly user error on my part? Reason I assumed it was a powercab issue is because it works fine, no spike, out of the Helix XLR outs. I will record and / or video something as soon as time permits... Thanks for the info, rd2rk!

Been using my JTV59 / Helix / PC112+ for the last several gigs. Tried using PC112+ in FRFR mode and IRs in Helix. Didn't dig that much, but didn't spend a lot of time on it either. Thought about moving the IRs to the PC112+. Didn't get that far. Tried the PC112+ speaker emulations first. Fantastic! Finally feels like I am playing an actual amp, very happy with my sound on stage. Tried using XLR out of PC112+ to FOH, rather than XLR out of the Helix to FOH as I was doing prior. Was not as pleased with the XLR out of the PC112+ to FOH. I use a lot of 4x12 IRs in the Helix and the PC112+ is only emulating a 1x12 setup so I really wasn't too surprised there. Back to tapping the Helix directly to FOH. I also use the PC112+ in FRFR mode when using the JTV59 for any acoustic stuff. Sounds great on stage as well. So I am using the PC112+ for stage monitoring only, but I really dig it - and it can get plenty loud to keep up with the rest of the guys! My only issue is the loud volume spike that you can get if you are in the middle of hitting anything on the guitar and switch from FRFR mode to speaker. I have to make sure I am not sending any signal from my guitar to the PC112+ when switching. More than a bit of a problem, but I can work with it for now. Hopefully they address the issue soon, can't imagine I am the only one to run across this when playing live. Sold some more gear I wasn't using and scored a second PC112+. Haven't used the two together yet. One's at the practice pad, one's at home. Soon. Looking forward to checking out dual amp / dual speaker type setups. Oh yeah, and I only need to run one AES cable to the PC112+ from the Helix. Fabulous. Overall, very pleased!

If I make the mistake off actually playing the guitar while simultaneously switching from FRFR mode to speaker modeling on the PC112+ from the Helix using my JTV59, look out! Massive volume spike. Makes it very difficult for live use. I have to make sure I am not playing for a split second and try to time my switch, for instance when going from some acoustic strumming on the JTV59 using FRFR on the PC112+ to a heavier electric rhythm using speaker modeling on the PC112+... think "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Bad Company. Results in a volume spike that will make you, and everyone else, require an underwear change if you're not careful on the switch. Anyone else come across this? Work around? Issue being addressed with a firmware update? Using the XLR out to FOH from the Helix doesn't result in this when doing the same thing, so I know it's a Powercab issue... Thanks!

Hello All! I just got a new JTV59, a tobacco burst this time, to back up my cherry burst JTV59. Hooked it up to workbench via the Helix (but didn't actually play the guitar) and transferred my setup off my cherry 59. No troubles. Figured everything was A-OK. Later I tried to fire it up connected to the Helix via VDI cable and the Variax end of it is deader than a doornail. No signal, no lights, nothing. I get the 1/4 jack signal but no signal via the VDI. Threw in a battery just for the hell of it. Guitar reads 3 green lights on the back, still no VDI signal. Couldn't quite understand how I managed to transfer my cherry setup to this tobacco successfully given the situation. So I hooked it back up thru the Helix to computer to workbench. Lo and behold, workbench did not see it, nor did the knobs light up. About every 15th to 20th time of removing the VDI cable and reconnecting I could get it to work as intended. So it would appear it's an intermittent issue and I just happened to get lucky the very first time. Unfortunately that makes it useless for me live as I need it to be rock solid like the cherry as I usually just take the one guitar - the whole point of using the Variax. Had the cherry for 8 years plus or so, never an issue. Thought maybe if I could get L6 Monkey to see it I could restore the firmware if that was the issue. Pop in battery which the tobacco sees, hook up to clear Variax box via VDI to computer, plug in 1/4 trs cable. Plastic Variax box displays one green light on the computer connection side, one red on the tobacco side. No go, L6 Monkey does not see tobacco only sees plastic Variax box. Redo connections repeatedly until I get both green lights. Monkey sees tobacco, tells me I have latest firmware. I try to reinstall firmware, if that was the issue. After about the 5th time of getting a "failure" message I final get it to report "update successful". But the guitar is still acting the same. Only rarely after connecting, disconnecting, reconnecting the VDI cable to the tobacco will it work as it's supposed to. So that's that. I'm outta ideas. Anyone out there experience something similar? Any way to resolve the issue without returning the guitar? Thanks for your time!

Not currently as far as I can tell. The only way to do this right now is to assign the iPad as the output of one line/chain and then as the input of another. A USB send/receive would be a great addition to a fantastic device, so I wouldn't have to tie up multiple chains to get the job done of using an iPad as an effects insert. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge Line 6. JTV59 Variax, Helix, iPad...Fantastic gig rig!

I use the iOS app "OnSong" and my Helix to do this. Write a bit of midi code in OnSong to load bank/patch on the Helix. Works great.

Any luck with this issue? I'm stuck on this one as well.

Thanks @scotterp, signed up and upvoted! Hope they implement, would be fantastically useful for my setup...

Plenty of iOS apps available to do this if you have an iPad. The possibilities when combining an iPad with the Helix are pretty astounding. Sending an instant command on snapshot load to the iOS app of choice that can respond to midi commands should do the trick. I use AUM on the iPad myself for that sort of thing. I haven't tried triggering on a snapshot change, usually assign a footswitch on the Helix to do the job. Works great.

Second page of "Input Variax" screen. Diddle with the "Preset Variax Lock Control" knob. Set it to something other than "unlocked". Oddly enough I stumbled across this exact same issue this past weekend while figuring out how to use the Helix as a controller for TH-U iOS (just checking out other options). Every time I would flip the pickup switch it would change the preset on TH-U. Took a while and some head scratching to figure that one out. Solved the issue for me, hope it does the same for you. The possibilities of combining the Variax / Helix / iPad (sometimes a Kemper) along with things like Midi Guitar 2 are mind blowing, particular for an old geezer like myself. Now if Line 6 would just come out with a USB send / return block for the Helix...

If you have an iPad, checkout OnSong: https://onsongapp.com/devices/ipad/ I use it to change my entire setup by just tapping or swiping the iPad screen. Works great - for all the same reason soundog mentions above. Same idea, different app. Helix / iPad / Variax integration really is something that sets the Helix apart from all others...

I got a Helix to use in conjunction with my JTV59 for gigs where I don't have a lot of stage room and can only take a single guitar. I wanted a floor unit that I could run straight to FOH, and just use whatever monitor they had at the venue, leaving my cabinet at home. Sounds great, responds great, super-flexible routing monster. Change guitar model, amp model, and tuning on a single footswitch? Hell yeah! I have since found out that I can also hook it up to my iPad, and then use my guitar via Midi Guitar 2 iOS app to trigger synth apps on the iPad (?!?). I'm still wrapping my head around all the possibilities, but the iPad thing alone makes the Helix more than worth it for me - and that's not even what I bought it for originally...
