Yea my Vetta is gathering dust too and has been for a while now. I use my Helix for audio out guitar sounds only. Others here can help you greatly with using it via an audio interface. You will love it tone wise.  :)

I'm already loving the tones (although its only headphones at the moment) I'm considering my options for live use at the moment. not too sure what way to move too.

FRFR...numerous options now, at a variety of price points. You won't look back from that either.

I thought your recording test sounded great.

There are way more experienced and knowledgeable folks on here than I to give advice, but from what I've picked up - use the on-board block options (various eq's, compressors, hi/lo cut on cabinets and IR blocks, amp settings, etc to shape your tone the way you like to get your sound just right through FRFR speakers.  And save the Global EQ so you can adjust that to retain/replicate your tone on a per venue environment.  I.e., one great use of the Global EQ is to compensate for whatever you're playing through at a live performance.

Since you only have one global eq, if you tweak it for any particular patch, it may have inadvertently affected other patches.  So just use it to adapt to whatever environment you happen to be playing in, and use the per-patch options to shape each patch.

Recently a member here posted some pretty cool Fletcher-Munson based EQ settings to go further and help EQ your patches for both low volume and high volume which compensate for the way our ears interpret sound and tone at drastically different volumes.  Applying that technique can help you dial in a tone that will sound good live at high volume without having to create it at high volumes - maybe just some final tweaks when all's done.  Really cool stuff.  Here it is:

Hey Spikey, have you tried Helix amp models, no cabs/IR's, into the stereo returns of the Vetta? Like just using it for the solid state power amp and Celestions?

I'm thinking of picking up one of the older Line 6 solid state combos or maybe the HD147 for this purpose and wondering if they will function this way. I could get other brand SS combos, but I might as well represent with Line 6 ;)

I tried that before I sold my Vetta II Combo.  It worked fine.  I used a Vetta preset that I had created to use it with the HD500X.  Once I remembered to insert a dummy plug in the Vetta input jack it sounded great.

Once I got all adjusted (amps and cabs off) and figured out after reading the manual the the "loop" light needed to be on, Helix and my old Vetta II played very very well together! 1/4" outs on Helix to the stereo return on the Vetta II. I used a 1/4" open ended dummy plug on the Vetta's guitar in as directed in the other post. Good tones from Helix and the Vetta II with fender and Marshall amps and Helix Cabs, and "plenty" of volume. More than I could use in this small room for sure. I now have a new reason for keeping this old forgotten "flagship" Line 6 amp. It sounds really good pairing with Helix to me. Thanks again !  :D   B)

No I didnt try that yet. IIRC the Vetta II's 12" speakers were supposed to be tone neutral, so when you did add a cab it sounded like the amp modeled.  I just set the vetta to no amps or Cabs and used Helix with amps, cabs and mics and it sounded pretty good. I will try to do this with just the amp in Helix, on the vetta II and let the vetta speakers be the cab. Sometime this week.

I used to run my HD500X this way.. via the FX loop on my old Vetta II. It's a good sound, But ultimately, I sold the Vetta and got to Alto TS10s, and am much happier with the tone. My back is also MUCH happier that I don't have to carry the Vetta II.

Now if I can just get around to replacing my HD500x with a Helix... ;)

Interesting about the tone neutral speakers. Did Vetta have cab models on and running through the speakers orginally?

Anyway, thanks again for the testing and feedback...much appreciated!

Yes the Vetta has many cab IR's/models via software along with the Amps in its OS.
