richter269
I am using the 4 cable method, using my marshalls for most of my tone & the helix for effects, (an old jmp 50 watt & a jcm 900) We hooked up the 900 & everything worked as it should, I thought the 50 watt would sound better for the venue we were playing,, Here is where the problem happened, The send & return from the helix got hooked up to the speaker outputs on the marshall & the cabinets got plugged into the effects send/return of the marshall, After that I lost the mono/left output on the Helix. Just a little bit of sound with the helix volume cranked, ,, I plugged into the 1 below (Right) & I have Normal output. Is there enough voltage from the speaker out to have fried the output On the Helix, Any suggestions,, I have been using line 6 for years & the Helix is By far the coolest Unit I have had,,, Would now Be hard to do gigs with out it,,,
rd2rk
Sounds like you may have fried your Helix.....
MusicLaw
Edited after re-reading OP's post.... I'm presuming the Helix's 1/4" L/Mono Main Out is the one now exhibiting the problem. It is quite possible the Marshall's Spkr Out Voltage and Amperage cooked the Helix's Send/Return. Check to see if the Helix's Main XLR Outs may still be working. You may also want to try changing the Global Output Settings to see if changing the defaults may accomplish recovering the Output. A Reset of your Helix may not be a bad idea also, just to see if that may recover the L/Mono 1/4" Out. However, if the Output electronics are cooked, a software reset will not remedy the scenario. jbuhajla
Try setting up a preset that is not 4CM, but going out to a PA speaker or mixer to test your Helix output without your amp in the equation. I am guessing the speaker out of your amp fried the Helix return, and not your Helix output. If that is the case, you can still use other returns. zooey
Just to say it, if you think there is a hardware problem after you've done your best troubleshooting to narrow it down, contact Line 6 customer support. This does seem like pilot error, not a defect, but super has been simply stellar in my and many other folks'experience, at least see what they say. You did WHAT? Dude, speaker outputs only ever get hooked up to speakers. You broke something, sir. That speaker output fried your Helix. aleclee
4CM leaves a lot of cables going around. One thing that might help in the future is color coding your cables. I like to use a strip of colored electrical tape on the plug. Put a bit of the tape by the jacks on your HX / Amp / Cab and it'll be easier to confirm that everything is hooked up the way you expect. spikey
The send & return from the helix got hooked up to the speaker outputs on the marshall Not only is Helix damaged, I hope your Marshall's head was not damaged as well.
