cdog12
Hi All, I've been banging my head against something and I wanted to present it to the community at large to get some more ideas on things to try. As some background, strymon pedals can't be accessed with a software program called Nixie which interfaces with them via a MIDI to USB interface. You plug your interface into the IN and OUT for your respective device(s). You can also chain devices together by connecting the MIDI out of the first into the MIDI in of the second and so on, enabling MIDI through on the devices, and setting them up on different channels. My setup that works fine is interface out -> timeline -> bigsky -> interface in The Nixie software sees both the bigsky and timeline and I can work with them both. My issue comes when I introduce my HX Stomp to the party. I've placed it in front of the timeline and run the MIDI out from the stomp into the MIDI in of the timeline. I've enabled MIDI through on the Stomp and put it on channel 3. I can send commands through it to the big sky and stomp like PC changes but the Nixie software doesn't detect the devices. I guess I'm wondering if the stomp filters out any MIDI commands like if I have the PC change receive setting turned off it doesn't do PC changes. I've tried toggling PC and CC transmit on and off and such and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas of things I can try would be appreciated or if anyone has done anything similar and knows for sure it doesn't work or whatever. Thanks

I saw a few in there about it but it seemed like they were using the Helix as their actual MIDI interface rather than just doing a MIDI through to pass the MIDI on, but I might have misunderstood. This one seems to address it but there aren't any replies:
phil_m
The Stomp's MIDI Out/Thru jack doesn't pass MIDI sysex commands, which is what Nixie uses, I believe.

Ah, shame. I was hoping that might have been a big helix only thing. So it's a MIDI "mostly" through. Thanks for the confirmation, keeps me from beating me head on the wall any more.
Thark
I’m no midi guru but I’d try putting the Stomp at the end of the chain.
spikey
I guess you could just set up a standard set of patches on the Timeline and BigSky, and use that setup with every patch then via some sort of controller like the Disaster Area DMC. That's what I basically did with Helix Rack and the controller for a while (altho now I do use Helix midi control to control each in the ctrl center part of the editor). CraigGT
I ended up using a midi merger with the Helix feeding one input and the PC the other. Craig
spikey
I did the same thing Craig, and it works great!
CraigGT
I think that it was your suggestion at the time Spikey. Craig
