Thank you for dreamrig DT, Helix & JTV

Recommended Posts

THANK YOU Line6 for giving me my dreamrig (back. Had Pod HD500 JTV and DT 'before').

Runs like a dream with Helix FW 2.80. Really great job, extremely appreciated!!!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G .
Best option: You can use Helix amps with no limits. Have HD500 too, will sell it now (maybe ;-) )

where does the dt sit in the signal chain on helix now?  Before I was just using the TT with the helix in a for cable method and you can place the DTE anywhere you wanted to you with the effects loop. But now that you can use the AES/EBU cable where does the DT amplifier sit in the signal chain?

DT50/DT25 Remote

Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, HX Edit

Helix can now remotely adjust the real tube topology settings and other parameters in one or two L6 LINK-connected DT25 or DT50 amplifiers. When one DT25 or DT50 is connected via L6 LINK (110-ohm AES/EBU cable), it receives a mono signal from Helix; when two DT250 or DT50 amplifiers are daisy-chained via L6 LINK, the first cab in the chain receives the left signal and the second cab receives the right signal.

TIP: Just like with any amp, cab, or effect parameter, DT parameters can be quickly assigned to footswitches or Snapshots.

  1. From the Output > Multi or Output > Digital block, press PAGE > three times.
  2. Turn Knob 1 (DT 25/50 Remote) to select “Per Preset” or “Global.” If you don’t plan on changing DT topology settings along with Helix presets, choose “Global.”
  3. Turn Knob 2 (DT Select) to specify which DT amp you want to controlDT 1, DT 2, or both DT amps

simultaneously (“1+2 Link”). Normally, you should leave this set to “1+2 Link,” which edits both DT amps simultaneously, to maintain phase coherence.

DT Channel

When set to Channel A, the DT switches to Channel A and its preamp is bypassed for when using a preamp model in Helix. When set to Channel B, the DT switches to Channel B and its preamp is activated

TIP: Assign a stomp footswitch (or snapshots) to simultaneously bypass a Helix preamp block AND switch a connected DT amp to Channel B. This gives you a wider variety of tones in the same preset, without the DSP overhead required to run two simultaneous Preamp blocks.

DT Topology

Changes the DT amp’s negative feedback loop topology. Choose “I (Tight)” for behavior reminiscent of the great American Blackface amps of the 60s, choose “II (Loose)” for dialing in echoes of classic British amps, choose “III (ZNF)” for a very open or dynamic feeling amp, or choose “IV (Resonant)” to add low frequency resonance that pairs well with high gain tones.

DT Power Amp

Sets the DT amp’s operating class, wattage, and bias type. Choose “Class A” for more dynamics with greater touch sensitivity; choose “Class AB” for greater headroom and power

DT Tube Config

Changes the configuration of the DT’s power tubes. Chose “Pentode” for clear and commanding tone; choose “Triode” for quieter and rounder sounds with a more vintage feel.

DT Reverb

Turns the DT amp’s built-in spring reverb on and off

DT Rev Mix

Determines the amount of built-in spring reverb

DT 12AX7 Boost (DT50 only)

When Low Volume Mode is off, applies a volume boost DT

Feedback Cap (DT50 only)

Sets the DT amp’s feedback capacitor type

DT B+ Voltage (DT50 only)

Sets the DT amp’s phase inverter B+ voltage

NOTE: For more information on DT amps, see the DT25 Pilot’s Guide or the DT50 Pilot’s Guide.

Special attention to the underlined stuff ;-)

If you choose an output block in Helix, you can change all these parameters.

Yeah I get all that, but when I use channel b with any delays or anything it sounds funky because everything is hitting the front of the pre amp, so I was wondering if there was a way to change that.  also if I’m using delays on channel a of the DT and turn on the trails, when I switch over to channel b  again the trails hit the front of the amp and distorts all the of the delays and makes it sound like a butt hole

Grady,

The DT is at the end of the chain.   Since L6Link is not bidirectional, you can't put your time based effects after the DT.  It might be possible to use a "block" to go into the premap, and use the send return method to drop them after the DT's preamp.   That might work like you expect.  I was hoping for something more flexible.

I've been a bit dissapointed using the preamp models then my time based effects then sending the output to the DT.   It sounds fine, but I loose the flexability to use other routing options to FRFR or the FOH etc. the way I can dream up things.   I just didn't want to have to do more send/return stuff with the Helix.

Don;t get me wrong. It still sounds great having the DT amp at the end of the chain.  I was very surprised how well the full amp blocks and even amp blocks + IR blocks sound going out to the DT.

I'm  still experimenting.

Thank you for the info and the advice Bob. I had not thought to try full amp models and Irs into the DT yet. Like you I was hoping to get away from having to run more cables between my DT and my helix. At least they have done something to try to make it work though. Unfortunately I had already went and purchased a synergy preamp module and a power cab so that I could get down to one cable for faster set up and tear down on stage and then they put out this update which kind of negates all the stuff I just purchased, but oh well live and learn.

yep, my experience too.  Using Helix with Channel A I can put all my post FX behind the preamp in the Helix path and use the DT power section but if I select Channel B it just turns off the preamp in my Helix and runs the whole chain into the front of the DT internal preamp/power section.  L6 Link does not insert between the DT internal preamp and power section.

Just one clarification - selecting Channel B from DT25/50 section of the output block, doesn't automatically turn of the preamp/amp block in the Helix. It does let you use the DT's preamp, though.

Interesting, I will have to check that tonight.  I will have to update some snapshots if that is true...  Thanks!
