jculling
Hi all, I recently got a jtv59 which I believe to be about 10 yo. Brilliant I thought, just update the firmware and I'm off and running. problem is I can't find a way of doing it L6 monkey is dis-continued and won't install on my computer WBHD tells me I need to update guitar previous WB won't install because computer is too new L6 updater won't see guitar downloaded firmware directly and it tells me no app available to open it search App Store it says this app not available in my region. I have the latest Mac Add this to the li-ion battery fiasco and I've had it with line6 stuff. I have a helix which I like but this other stuff is infuriating. Reading the forums , we are being told to only use line6 batteries.. Well, if I could get one I would gladly pay the price,I'm sure I'm not alone. silverhead
To update your JTV guitar you need to use either a compatible Line 6 device or a piece of hardware called the Workbench USB Hardware Interface. It comes included with the original guitar but often is not included by the seller in a used purchase. It is rather expensive for what it does and is sometimes in short supply. However, it seems you may already have established a connection to the computer because you say WBHD recognizes that a guitar is connected. I mention it just in case. No point in using the original Variax Workbench product - it’s not compatible with the JTV guitars. Same with Line 6 Updater - not for JTV’s. I don’t know what to say about Monkey. I’m not a Mac guy. Perhaps someone else can help you out here. You could also open a support ticket.

If you have a Helix, then there's no need to use the battery in the Variax anyway... the Helix will power it. The VDI connection also allows you to switch models and tunings remotely, instead of having to fiddle with the controls on the guitar. I've never used the battery, don't even know where the thing is at this point, lol

If the JTV is still 1.x it won't even be HD yet, do I don't think WorkBench HD will even recognize it. In reading the OP several times, I am pretty sure that guitar needs to be brought up to date. As long as you have the VDI box and a battery with 15 -30 minutes of power you can get this thing updated. From that point forward, connect to the Helix with a VDI cable and you will have power and full functionality.
