Tip About the Version 3.50 Cabs

If I don't use up all the available blocks in a preset, I'll use a separate Amp and Cab instead of an Amp+Cab. The miking is a big deal with the new Cabs, so when I find a setting that rocks my world, I save it as a Favorite. Then I can use it with other amps if appropriate, or at least try it and see if it gives the same magic results.

I know, that's not exactly earth-shattering :)  But I do find it useful to save selected new Cabs as Favorites.

Mr. Anderton,

Thanks for all the info your provide for Helix. I bought your Helix book and I enjoy it thoroughly. Tonight, I was listening to the Tone Talk podcast Mark Huzanski and Dave Friedman did with Bob Bradshaw a couple years ago and Bob mentioned he was inspired by your articles. In fact, there have been a few folks who have brought your books or articles up as one of their starting points. Including personal friends who build/mod/repair gear. I built a couple pedals a few years ago and really want to get into doing more. I was going to grab a couple of your books from Amazon but thought I'd ask if there was a way I could support you directly?

Anyway, thanks a million for all the tips, tone and talent. You're a class act and a legend sir.

Take care!

Wow, that's very kind of you! My biggest reward is I love my gig :)  I don't have anything like Patreon or post music on Bandcamp, I try to make what I do as affordable as possible.

The best way to support me is to spread the word about what I do.

You can hear my music at youtube.com/thecraiganderton. My new album ("Unconstrained") is going up within the next week, if you like it let people know about it. Participate in my forum at musicplayer.com (which also has an online shop with some of my products, and a dedicated support forum for my books), visit craiganderton.org, and buy my books and presets (there will be more at the Line 6 marketplace at some point)...that's pretty much everything.

And of course, take anything you learn from me and make some great music, so we all can listen to it!

Craig might or might not be under any NDA with anyone but I never heard him deny that he wouldn’t not use no FX from any non-Helix device unless nothing was missing in Helix that he couldn’t find a way to avoid using elsewhere. ;-)

Pretty sure Craig could agree with that.

Actually having just finally upgraded my stage system to 3.50, the coolest thing about this approach is that once I have a cab configuration saved it's pretty much the same workflow as an IR, so that takes away my one hesitation about using cabs over IRs.

Almost all of the electric guitar parts use sounds from my Helix Multiband Preset Pack - there really isn't any other software that makes multiband presets so easy to do. When you check out the album, you'll definitely hear the multiband presets working their little butts off.

There's an occasional PRS amp sim, AmpliTube, and Ampire. No physical amps at all :)  The acoustic guitar parts mostly used a la carte selections of Waves plugins. Processors for keys, drums, FX, and bass were all over the place. They were like the UN General Assembly of plugins.

Mr Anderton, is the Helix Multiband Preset Pack still based on 2.71?

if so, any chance you will update the preset pack to take advantage of the newer amps and cabs?

By the way, thank you for all your exellent work and for your many illuminating posts and responses on this forum.

Actually there's a lot of news on that front. New multiband presets for amps released subsequent to 2.71, with the 3.50 cabs, are included in the Free Files folder that's part of the version 1.2 download of The Big Book of Helix Tips and Tricks. I'm 300 pages into proofing the book, so it will be finished any day now.

However, I've discovered new techniques, and learned a lot, since doing the original preset pack. I want to create two new preset packs, one for 2-Path Helix devices, and one for 4-Path Helix devices. It takes me forever to do these, so I don't have an ETA.

Finally, I released my new album today on YouTube - it's a big deal for me. The album is called "Unconstrained," and Helix is all over it. I hope you enjoy it!

I recently started using the new cabs full time and forgot you could save them as favorites for some reason...It's like building your own Helix IR library, neat! I felt IR's were my best option for a long time, but even the best ones had something that sounded "off" too me. Gimme that new Mesa cab with a 57 and one of the ribbon mics though...yes!
